Magic Kingdom evening Extra Magic Hours attraction line-up to change next week

They are trying to give the resort guests an advantage by allowing them "private" access to the high traffic and popular rides. They try to balance the labor costs with the demand of these rides "after or before hours." So things like The Hall of Presidents or Mad Tea Party may not warrant the extra man hours and therefore are closed. There may be other factors too but outside maintenance and construction this is usually the main factor. SM was up all day and Evening EMH and now it seems they are pulling from there to make it a regular hours only attraction.

Thanks for the explanation, what a bizarre decision! I will just have to make the most of it during the day instead. Roll on 11 days time!

I usually try to keep my composure and grace while on these boards, but seeing the majority of reactions here really upsets me. Seeing this labeledd as "the worse" decision disney has ever made, and a lot of other negative comments, when probably no one on this board actually KNOWs, for an absolute certainty, why they are doing this. I'm going to guess its for added maintence, I do not KNOW, but I will guess, and all the nay-sayers have no proof unless they are inside the building during EMH. Almost all of the maintenence is below the water and behind the walls, none of the general public will know what's going on. They may need a new pump here and there? New hydraulic lines? Who knows?! But I find it really upsetting people getting so angry and demonizing when its so commonly complained about around here, and now they may be doing something about it, all these conspiracy theories start flying for no reason other than essentially a lack of knowledge. I reserve judgement until I see results, I may be wrong, and I don't care if I am, but I am not going to demonize very hard working and innocent maintenance people at WDW for something most of us have absolutely no knowledge of and through pure speculation of a decision only a few people at WDW actually made.... ill breath now... in... and out...

Okay, I'll respond to this one...I generally do not get overly upset when Disney makes a change to its line up and try to roll with the punches but as of late even I tend to agree that things seems to be going in the wrong direction. When they cut evening EMH back to two hours I said okay I'll just modify my night time schedule and make the most of it. But now, this is somewhat ludacris. I agree with everyone, SM is one of, if not the most popular attraction at MK.

If Disney's reason for cutting this attraction out of evening EMH is for maintenance purposes then kudos to them, just let us know. Tell us that the cut back is due for some much needed TLC and more than likely folks will applaud instead of grunt. The problem is the lack of communication. When you don't communicate people tend to migrate towards the worse, such as "this is another cut back in order to save money and make the accountants happy."

Now the question becomes does Dinsey need to let us know everything that goes on behind their enchanted walls? Of course not, but it would probably calm their patrons down if they would at least give some reasoning to their madness. Communicate with the folks that save up all year to spend their hard earned dollars at your properties, thats just good business sense.

Splash mountain for Tiki Room?

Is today April 1st?

No, that day will come when they tell us that Stitch's Great Escape is the number one MK attraction and that all Dole Whip machines are out of order and there are no plans to fix them. Let us pray to the Disney gods that this day never comes.

The wife and daughter aren't going to like this one. The good news is that 2 of our 3 nights at the MK next month are MNSSHP nights, so they should be able to ride on those nights. The good news for me is that TDO is making it easier and easier for me to talk my wife into flying out to CA for a DLR trip.

I had planned to go to Disneyland next year, but decided to put it off due to high airfare, improvements at WDW and our love for Universal Orlando. Gotta talk to the wife now. Not that this one thing even means anything to us as we almost never attend EMH evenings, but the amount of on-site perks being cut out is just ridiculous. It's getting extremely worrisome about the continued downward spiral that TDO is taking.

What Spirit told you to expect cutbacks to come?

Do you know how much cheaper it is to run Tiki Room than Splash Mtn?

Expect further changes like this as well as staggered hours.

Just a rumor right now, but there's a plan floating out to remove one EMH morning from DAK.

With recent changes in the works or coming down the mountains of Burbank...does anyone think that this could be so Park Ops can get an extra 4 hours to work on Splash?

I mean they can't SERIOUSLY believe that this is an even trade...or that people wouldn't expect one of the headline attractions to be available for EMH...then again, it's not called E-Ticket Nights anymore, so no one says all of the E-Tickets need to be open.

They really can't be this obvious with a cutback...I just can't believe it.

Geez Captain...will you just pull the trigger already?! I've been flying regularly for the past 5 years during all seasons and airfare with Southwest has been more or less stable during that time. I wouldn't ever use it as a reason to not visit Cali.

Like I said, it's not just the airfare. I want my kids to be able to fully experience California when we go there. Not just Disneyland, but Knotts Berry Farm, Six Flags, etc. They're still a bit young for it. But when I read how much better DLR is run, it makes me less and less patient.

I'm sorry, but frontierland and adventureland are the 2 best areas at night with EMH. Something special about riding Splash at night with nobody else around. THis makes me sad. Takes away a bit of magic from the area.

^This! I really hope there is another reason behind this besides for cost cutting... I really, really hope!

The Tiki Room, really!?!

Green behind the ears a bit there?

Seriously though. No one is demonizing the "innocent maintenance people at WDW." No one is even directing their comments at them. All of the comments are directed at the management structure of WDW and those directly responsible for making these kinds of decisions. Secondly, the problem with announcments like this (and one of the reasons that reinforces this as a "cutback") is that it isn't being called a "temporary change" or "for maintenance reasons. " It's just being done. Combine that with the confirmation that EMH is being cut by 1/3 already starting in January and that adds up to some substantial cuts in regards to the EMH experience at Magic Kingdom.

While I could understand in Dec/Jan to swap out experiences, the last time I knew August and Sept weather is warm in the evenings still. And as much as I like the Tiki Room, I still prefer to see that in the afternoon as a chance to sit and cool down.
