Because Disney doesn't care about making the CMs feel valued or special. The company used to do all sorts of nice things for their CMs, but that was decades ago. Corporate culture in the modern workplace is one thing, and then you have Disney...

With what I've observed with shows over the years, soft openings for shows generally happen when they feel that the show is mostly ready, without any sort of major announcement. The various websites and vloggers will let the world know, at any rate.
Are you a cast member or speaking on behalf of them?

If I were working for Disney, I wouldn't be posting about my employers. They regularly watch social media and will fire CMs pretty fast if they see something they don't like.

I'm speaking as someone that knows that the company's history, that they used to give CMs special perks, like hosting holiday parties specifically to thank their CMs. Those days are long gone unfortunately. Everything began to change after the CM strike in the 80s.

But not as a cast member.

No. I don't pretend to speak for all CMs. I know many, and I've heard all sorts of things that they have shared with me that have called into question, in my opinion, how good of an employer Disney is. Honestly, a lot of what I've heard has been downright abusive. I don't want to risk anyone's job.

Some don't feel that they need much from an employer. Others do. Disney has made some changes to recognize the humanity of their employees, but from where I'm standing, they still have a long way to go.

There's more than one reason why WDW is currently on a hiring spree, and it's not just the fact that they laid off a huge amount of their workforce last year. Sorry to say.

Curious how much these carts made on a nightly basis in pre-covid times.

20 years ago there were almost none...people were moving, would stop and watch illuminations as the lights blew out.

the last 10 years or so was vastly different. They filled in the moat and put in astroturf to hold people...”fastpass”...ridiculous.

and why is it worse now? Simple:

attendance has steadily risen as attraction capacity hasn’t been expanded. Quite simple. You wait cause there isn’t much else going on.

what’s worse...it’s subconscious. Few even understand why they’re waiting. Cause it’s not worth it to pound pavement in the ride rationing system. A 90 minute standby at mine train sounds good at 9 pm? Maybe a 45 at Pooh bear??

This is my big deal with the incessant vlogging, discussion threads and top ten lists about parades and fireworks...

they’re fleeting and distract from what the consumer should be asking for/about...
New attractions. Things that open at 8 am and the line closes at 11 pm...365 days...tens of thousands of available minutes each year.

but I need to go meditate...so I’m going to zen the fireworks out of my mind 🧘🏼

My point is there aren’t enough people waiting in the hub to refute the argument that fireworks increases consumer spending in the parks.

increased hours increases spending...this is no mystery.

if you believe spending increases because of a fireworks show...I’d be happy to entertain it...but it’s a little counter intuitive.

The parks are exhausting and people are more apt to leave long before close when there’s nothing to stay for at the end of the night. Guests leaving with hours left on the table equates to lost revenue.

The shows themselves are also intrinsic to the value of a WDW vacation. The proof is how none of us will shut up about them being gone and how guests are still pestering CMs about them day in and day out. And it’s why their return is being fast tracked.

This is also a good point. CM’s make fun of how often guests ask “when is the night time parade” - umm that’s because those guests aren’t passholders that know the entertainment schedule by heart.

They are guests that come every few years and the last time they were at Disney they saw a night parade and wanted to see it again. Or perhaps a mother, grandmother, neighbor, etc. said “oh be sure to see the night parade!”
