The things that I am hoping for the most at Magic Kingdom's 50th, and the things we realistically should be getting, are: a COMPLETE refurbishment of Carousel of Progress, an original night time parade, and the Space Mountain refurbishment we all have been hoping for. And I do think that they should conjoin MK's 50th with Epcot's 40th into a huge overlapping celebration. Hopefully to finally get those pavilions geared up for greatness again. The wishful thinking side of me wants a Dreamfinder return a la the Hatbox Ghost at DL's 60th.
I also think we may get some just general "pixie dusting" to original rides similar to DLs 60th

The Figment comics are already just tempting for Disney to bring Dreamfinder back at this point.

I was there for that, and it wasn't classy at all. Thank goodness that it didn't stay up for years like the BAH did!

I know. This looks way better than that tacky BAH!

Ideally, I would hope for a major new ride for the 50th, such as WRE or a new Adventureland E-ticket, and the optimistic side of me is hoping that they announce something substantial next year at D23 for the MK (as well as for Epcot), but I should probably just keep my expectations at a reasonable* level. Even if it's not a new E-ticket though, I'm still hoping we get something new to the MK by 2021 (and no, meet and greets do not count).

Also, speaking of anniversaries, next year is the 25th for WDW's Splash Mountain, which I think is a pretty big deal. I'm not really expecting them to do much for it, but I'm at least hoping we get some new, quality merchandise.

*Personally, I don't consider having a major new ride addition every few years for each park "unreasonable."

I have a feeling that the only thing we will be getting for the 50th will be a new Fireworks show, a huge ad campaign touting Toy Storyland, Pandora, and Star Wars Land... I really expect them to sit on their laurels and do as little as possible.
Expect a cupcake party on the day of the anniversary with a special upcharge for your cupcake...

It would be nice, but I highly doubt there will be any new D or E ticket attractions at MK by 2021. I certainly don't have my hopes up for that.

I think you're right. Basically what will be "new" is what we know they're working on: Pandora, SWL, TSL. That's it. Epcot will be the same with maybe the festivals fleshed out for another week or two on each side. MK isn't going to change. We'll still probably have the MSEP, if for no other reason than they can tout it as the "Classic Main Street Electrical Parade" as part of the 50th (do nothing and claim victory with it).

The sad thing is that years back I was excited about the 50th. I was definitely planning on going. If not on the actual day at least sometime during that year. Now, in light of the 40th, 45th, and TWDC's lack luster attitude towards WDW. I no longer care. They have cupcakes, T-shirts, and PIN trading and some extra fireworks that night.. and people will still come.. ..and they'll still pay (increases in tickets and accommodations, of course) and WDW will continue to coast.

I think that, in a way, they have reached a saturation point where it doesn't matter what they do (at least for the immediate "long term" future (as weird as that sounds)). What it comes down to is that there's more people, each year, and roughly the same amount of theme park space as theme parks really aren't being built all that often and, because of regulations and whatnot, are harder/more expensive to build than ever so, in a way, they can do very little and still fill their coffers.

I am not even sure WDW will celebrate it's 50th. I am not sure why, TWDC and TDO are, as of right now heading into the 45th, still of the mind set that WDW does not celebrate its anniversaries. The original Disneyland does. Paris does. Hong Kong, the only Disney Park in the world that is not #1 attended theme park in its region also does........ what gives? The 25th anniversary was grossly successful. I think WDW turns down free money by not marketing the anniversaries. Look at DL's 60th. New fireworks. Any real major cost to redoing your nightly fireworks show with an anniversary theme????? A new parade. Yes there is a real cost there, but your going to get years out of a new day parade and play it out right, a decade+ out of a night parade. And Merch.... splash an anniversary logo on everything, and sales will bump because "I don't have that shirt, that mug, that key chain, that......."

They did big celebrations for the 10th, 15th, and 25th (I'm not sure about 20th). Then it just seemed to stop and it just became T-shirts and PINs.

I have the PIN set on my wall from the 15th (Coca-Cola + Disney PIN set) which is kind of cool. I remember seeing pics of parades for both the 10th and 15th and how could you forget the 25th with the (horrible, but at least they tried) castle cake.

I really think going forward it's just PINs and T-Shirts because: people will come (and pay), anyway. I think that is just their mindset now.

They did for the 20th. The 20th was Walt Disney's World's "Surprise Celebration". They had a "Suprise Celebration" Parade that re purposed Disneyland's 35th anniversary Party Gras parade.

Also this was when WDW first started what is now EMH. Back there is was Surprise mornings for resort guests only... "Surprise" one of the three theme parks will open to you only, each day. No evenings back then.

And even from a merch stand point, the acknowledgement of the 30th, 35th, 40th and now 45th has been extremely measured, and very small measure at that. It just seems like a no brainer to do more.

Spectromagic also debuted for the 20th Anniversary.
