but even though smaller or rerouted didn't they get a complete redo package for their rivers? by that I mean new scenes and animatronics? Would love to see that here along our railroad, for the 50th at least. They really are great details, or use to be.

Correct.

To be fair what they did at Disneyland required removal of half of the rivers of America.

Only 15.5% was lost...

A center line path around the RoA in DL...

old: 2,353 feet
new: 1,987 feet

Difference: 366 feet

Percentage of the old now 'gone': 15.5%

But don't forget, even though distance was lost, consider updated scenery gained.

I’m 19. Took honors and AP classes all throughout high school and college. We have never once talked about Mark Twain. It’s an outdated property that needs a refurb.
That's weird, having graduated not too long ago, we did read about tom sawyer at one time or another in middle and high school. So you really don't speak for the "youth" of these boards. Tom Sawyer is ingrained in American culture, and while it may not be my cup of tea, that doesn't mean it needs to be scrapped. Frankly I'm surprised that in your entire academic career tom sawyer has not been referenced or discussed.

There's is no attraction outside of a Disney park at another theme park like the Liberty Belle or Mark Twain. They are quintessential to the theming, atmosphere and feel of the parks. After visiting MK literally thousands of times, you start to pick up on the parts that come together to make a spectacular experience and the whistle and bell of the elegant and majestic Liberty Belle are a part of that magic. As are the sounds of rifles from the incorrectly spelled Ft. Langhorne when you're on BTMRR. The sound of the frogs and cicadas. The breeze on a lonely night coming off the banks of the RoA. It's a spiritual experience.

And innoventions is now a giant waste of space. I’m not saying remove TSI and do nothing with it. Building a ride and restaurant there would easily triple the amount of people who go to the island.
But it wasn’t a waste of space. At its prime it pulled in plenty of people and now it doesn’t and it hurts the park.

Yes, building a ride may attract more people to that area but also to the park itself which destroys the very solution that was sought out to begin with. Once again, it doesn’t need need to be about filing up every area of the park with big attractions. Let there be slow areas that are quiet and draw you away. Places to escape and have fun on a personal level. To explore at your own pace, not be ushered through show scene at a time.

Disneyland has zero walking space as it is.

Not sure where you found “tons of space to absorb SW crowds”

He’s talking about the new paths. The Big Thunder Trail path is wider than the average DL path while also being made to absorb as many people as possible with how it’s laid out. I don’t think the Critter Country path will absorb crowds as well, but I feel like at least for the first year it’ll be more of an exit path than an entrance.

Yeah the 2 Frontierland paths into SWL are nice.

Still looking for the tons of space tho

This is one of the hardest things to always find a really good picture from the model from. I had one, but people seem to barely have taken any photo's of the critter country entrance...

However there is a significantly large area beyond the rail berm at that entrance that will consist of multiple walking paths etc. that guests can clearly be held at prior to opening. Just look at the aerial image, it's basically a football field that is more shifted to the Grand Avenue side in the DHS equivalent.

Looks big enough to hold the overflow queue of Pirates on a regular day

(And that's the exit of the land, not the entrance)

Thank you. 16% (rounding up) of Disneyland's Rivers of America was trimmed, but what replaced it is lightyears better aesthetically and from a storytelling perspective.

When I visit WDW every five years or so, I'm always amazed at how lifeless and abandoned the Rivers of America seems in Magic Kingdom compared to the River in Anaheim or Tokyo. What would be a fun and relatively inexpensive way to add life back for WDW's 50th, and most importantly add hourly ride capacity, is to bring back the various boats and the different shows they provided to customers.

I get it that the Canoes don't work in Orlando like they do in Anaheim because of the Orlando climate, so bring back the Keelboats instead of the Canoes. Add back a second big boat to the river, a Colonial sailing ship like Disneyland has that would be PERFECT for Liberty Square, and update and freshen Tom Sawyer's Island. Get four different rides operating on that river like Disneyland has, and get people using that space! A nice nod to the historical aspects of Magic Kingdom Park, and a way to increase the overall park capacity.

Plus, with Disneyland as a living example, it adds to the tapestry of experiences and immensely improves the showmanship of that side of the park.

I'd be so happy if they brought back the BerthaMae. They were a little dangerous, though, particularly around the Devil's elbow. I'd imagine the insurance guys didn't like the attraction before the capsize much less after.

But they were so much fun to drive! It was a little complicated, navigating around the other boats on the ROA. There was a signaling system that was used to request/grant clearance (And to insult each other). If I remember correctly, the traffic priority was: riverboat, raft, keelboat, canoe.

The worst was if you got stuck behind the slow, wide riverboat; the one thing you weren't allowed to pass. It really increased your trip time. And so you had to pull out the "long form" spiel.

But bless you, TP2000 for the suggestion! Walt loved a busy river. And the ROA has been without two riverboats for a too long. A Columbia-type boat would probably be less expensive to build and really visually exciting!

A busy "Aunt Polly's" really helped sell the ROA reality, too. I wish it would return along with the signature cold fried chicken.

TP2000 is definitely correct, and a great post! But this is the same WDW that once had plans (not saying they were even close to reality but we all know plans have existed) to dock the riverboat. I agree about MK's rivers feeling a bit dead. I still enjoy walking around them and standing there watching the rafts and riverboat but it's definitely lacking and in a park that's so crowded, more options would be nice. It's sad. Canoes aren't logical at WDW. Better designed keelboats to handle guests would, but even then, low capacity things aren't really the right answer. I'm all for giving us more to do but I can actually see why these things were cut. Not saying I agree, and I'd rather have kinetics on the water than think about operations, but keelboats and canoes likely wouldn't ever come back.

A Sailing Ship Columbia though, would be much welcome. That'd be better than hauling out keelboats again.

But then again, if the park were built up to where it should be capacity wise, then the river transportation shouldn't be a problem.

But this is the same company that launches a park with a river boat transportation and guests treat it like it's an actual attraction so they dump it. To be fair, it should have been more of an attraction, to some degree. It was a missed opportunity. I'd love to see boats on the Discovery River again.

This, to me, is why this suggestion is so important. A Colonial sailing ship would not only bring life to the river, but would also add life to Liberty Square. To place this segment of colonial life at a harbor with an appropriate sailing vessel visible as you approach the dock.

It would require further reconfiguration to move the Riverboat further down around the bend, but it would also serve in moving its dock to a more temporally appropriate location within Frontierland.

I am utterly embarassed, I forgot to go on TSI when I visited last. I love the idea of it, and look forward to relaxing there the next time I go. Hopefully.
I'd love to see the river get an update but we will see what is planned.
