No - we're leaving it open and no rail. I like the feeling of space. We have wicker patio furniture that will sit under the roof and now DH's grill has a place to sit, as well a table/chairs. I'm thinking cookout Saturday! :D

Looks great, sounds great.:sohappy: Oh it will smell good. :p :slurp:

I like that idea.
It's a nice shady area, and the roof offers protection from rain.
That's all you really need.
Word of advice concerning the grill:
Put it on some sort of protective mat to protect the patio from grease stains.
Grills can be messy.

Ooh good thought - I'll have to mention that to Mike. Our backyard used to be even more shaded - we removed 10-15 smallish trees back there. But we have two huge oaks over near the patio.

Your back yard looks lovely from what I can see of it.
Now the patio will really give you a nice way to enjoy it!

We've eaten outside more times than not this year, and the past few days I've taken my coffee out there in the morning and just enjoyed the peace and quiet. :)

Yep - but there's still tons of work actually. Now we can turn to weeding and moving plants around the yard. I want to have a family cookout this Labor Day, so I have a goal! :)

We used to do that on our deck when we still lived in our house.
It was great. Now we can just walk down to the river. That is awesome.

We went so long without being able to use the backyard, that now we savor every minute of it!

We added the deck onto the back about 5 years before we moved out of the house. We practically lived out there during the nice weather months during that time. We loved that deck, but our little corner of the block started to change for the worse and we knew we had to go before things really got bad.
Which they did soon after we left. In all the years we lived in that house all the backyards had 3 foot fences separating them from one another. Now, every yard has at least a 6 foot fence around it. It looks terrible and I hate driving by and seeing it and remembering what it used to be like. . .

Our neighborhood was great when we first moved in - everyone was always out socializing all summer - we had some great times! Then we went through about 10 years of some pretty questionable characters moving in. That, together with cesspool issues, kept us pretty much prisoners in our own homes. Now we have a lot of young families again - not the same as old times, but not too bad!
