Magic express and check out question

We need check out of Port Orleans Riverside at 11:00 am, but our plane doesn't leave until almost 5:00. We were planning on doing a little shopping at DTD before we leave. Can we still use magic express, and if so, do they keep our luggage at the hotel until we actually leave for the airport? I'd hate to have to drag my luggage all over Downtown Disney. And do we have to go back to our resort to catch magic express or can we catch it from Downtown Disney?

Check your bags with the bell services before you leave for DTD. Or, if you are flying an airline that participates in the airline check-in at the resort you can go ahead and do that. Yes, you still have to catch ME at your resort so be sure to leave DTD in time to get back. :)

Yes, they will keep your luggage at the hotel until its time to leave.

Your plane leaves around 5 so you will board about 15 minutes before and you have to be there 2 hours ahead of time so you will be leaving the hotel at least an hour before then. Make sure you double check to see what time you have to be back so you don't miss the bus.

As Tigsmom said, bell services can hold your luggage at POR while you shop. Or if you are flying on a Resort Check-In participating airline, you can check your luggage at the hotel that morning and it will be sent to the airport for you. Regardless, you will need to return to POR to catch the Magical Express bus. The buses only leave from the resorts, not any of the parks or DTD.

Theres an airlines check in desk right in the lobby of POR. we checked our bags in and took off for the parks our last day. I think we had to be there 3 hrs. before time to go which was awful to catch Magical express.

We used the check in also and it was great. Didn't have to worry about a thing the day we were leaving and we could go to the parks until pick up time.

We just came back a couple of days ago and here is how it works. You can bring your luggage to the airline check in counter 3-12 hours before your flight is scheduled to depart (it must be there no later than 3 hours before!). The morning before you are scheduled to leave, magical express will place a note on your door indicating what time they will be picking you up, for example our flight was due to depart at 10:45 am but, magical express was picking us up at 7:45am and we were told to be at the pick up location 15 minutes prior to scheduled pick up so we arrived at 7:30am. My DH took our luggage to airline check in at 6am and it arrived at our home airport before we did, it was just sitting there waiting for us,(I assume it was put on an earlier flight). You can also arrange to have your luggage picked up from your room but, you must call a special number at least 24 hours prior to check out to arrange this service.

EVERYtime we go to WDW, we always schedule a late day flight to enjoy the MK on the last day...just our tradition. Anyhoo, we always either check our bags at the hotel, given we are using a participating airline, or leave them with the bell services and venture off for the day. Make sure you pack a backpack with some essentials for the day, just like you'd do when staying on.
Yeah, it stinks that Magical Express picks you up so early. We are always hanging out in the airport for a couple of hours doing a bunch of nothing. Then, trying to ammuse a child for that long isn't always fun. For him, we always keep one of those mini-luggages on wheels. (My son has McQueen) Then he can occupy himself at the airport, at least for a bit. I understand wanting us to get there ahead of time and not miss our flights but that is waaay early. I'd rather be in the parks!!

Once we missed our scheduled Magical Express trip to the airport but they put us on a later one...was actually better...less time in the airport.:animwink:

Our flight home was @ 3PM. so we were scheduled to take ME at noon. I called bell services the night before to have them pick up our luggage @ 8AM, we checked our bags in the lobby, left our carry-ons with Bell Services, grabbed a bite of breakfast, and were at the MK for the opening ceremony. Hopped back on the monorail around 11:30, picked up our carry-ons, caught the ME bus, and were on our way. Very smooth and painless way to do things, I thought.

Yes, you can still use the DME.
You will be able to leave your luggage at the resort while you visit DTD.
You will have to go back to your resort to catch the DME bus at least 3 hrs. before your flight.
