Magic Carpets of Aladdin

Know what's really funny?

Why is it that the movie is called Aladdin, but there is absolutely no merchandise whatsoever that showcases HIM?

I sort of figured this out a few years ago...Just decided to try it and WEE!

If a CM instructs me to stop, of course I will stop. But I've been doing it for years and have never once been told to stop.

Aladdin is a rogue, scoundrel, liar and a thief. He hangs out all day with Abu and uses the excuse of poverty to rationalize stealing from the local merchants. After Disney creates a really good attraction for Aladdin, I think they should get the rights to Dexter and plan their next big attraction around him.

And Elvis Presley was a model citizen according to Lilo
:p

I totally agree! Either move the spinner to a corner of Fantasyland or get rid of it completely.

How come we can't actually get a cool attraction based on Aladdin? I mean seriously! I think of the new classics its the most underused in all the parks. Mermaid gets a show and a ride...Beauty and the Beast get a show an elaborate meet n greet and restaurant, Lion King gets a show, and Aladdin only gets a spinner? Really?

Well to be fair, Aladdin does have an AMAZING show in Disneyland at the Hyperion theatre. It doesn't help us at WDW but it is very well done. And a little M&G in WDW. I always thought an escape from the Cave of Wonders ride would be cool.

I am also surprised they never did more with "Up" in Adventure Land since he movie clearly stated that "Adventure is out there." I think they have a hard time deciding what adventure land in and how it's different from the other lands. What is it? A jungle? Pirates? Fairies? Indiana Jones (DL)? Or somehow all of these things (minus the fairies, of course). I'd love to see it have some more love and more cohesive theming. How do you tie mechanical birds, jungle cruise, pirates, and Aladdin all into one theme. Or, if you can't what needs to change so there is cohesive theming?

I saw Jasmine and Aladdin doing this on a trip 2 - 3 years ago. Jasmine was in front and Aladdin in back. There were riding it during normal hours in the morning. It was pretty crazy they were catching some air on that ride.

In the 90s there used to be stuff with him regularily, even if just on the cover of something like the SEGA game. Aladdin was most certainly sold as a "boys" movie follwing the arguably "girl" centric Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast (though neither was gendered to death then), and so items with him on it were available.

Along comes the Princess brand in 2000 and Aladdin himself disappears along with the rest of the movie's cast. Only Jasmine has been deemed worth promoting about the movie since.

Yeah, there was a LOT of merchandise featuring just the Street Rat back in the 90s.
I have quite a few relics...action figures, small PVC figurines, collector dolls, etc.
There was also of course childrens clothing, towels, and the like that heavily featured him alone, or with Genie.

The last time i recall seeing a steady line of merch featuring Aladdin himself was back during the *Disney Heros* merch series...late 90s/early 2000s. The Disney Store carried this line, and it was basically a boys clothing and toy line featuring five high profile Disney * action heroes* - Peter Pan, Hercules, Tarzan, Aladdin, and one other ....forget who! Du*oh !

The large action figures for that series were nice. 12 inches tall, fully articulated.
I have the Tarzan one and wish i bought a few of the others!

So is the general consensus to rip the spinner out entirely?

...or keep the spinner but re-theme it to Tiki Birds or Up!

Remove it completely. I am a HUGE Tiki Room fan and was thrilled by the roasting of the "New Management" but even a Tiki room theming cannot save a bad location. This spinner ride creates massive congestion on crowded day<s and spoils what was once a beautiful open space, Adventureland Plaza. I have a trip movie from 1991 where you see the original place and it so much better than this terrible overcrowded bottleneck with its in a cheap way cartoonish AA camels. Rip it out entirely.

Wish we could get an Aladdin ride in adventure land too! I think a cave of wonders ride would be awesome! With a nice que walking around the cave and seeing treasures, then you board a magic carpet and have to escape out of the cave!

Are you kidding? They just installed fastpass week or two ago. Carpets aren't going anywhere.

Then it should at least be given a makeover so its less plastic looking and shorter in height so as not to be seen from Frontierland. Compare MK's "Arabian" section of Adventureland with the one from DLP and it's obvious why it comes up so short:

Even the copy carpet spinner at Tokyo Disney Sea looks better:

Bouncing is exclusive to Carpets. The hydraulics on the other spinners aren't nearly as quick. Pretty much the only way to learn is to have someone who knows how show you (my friend who worked there showed me years ago). It's a really specific up-down pattern (it's basically down-up-down-up-down-up, very fast, and timed very precisely). You get an insane amount of air, to the point where the seatbelt is the only thing keeping you from flying up and out of your carpet (imagine the small drops on Tower of Terror, in a circle, controlled by you). If you have bags at your feet, hang on to them, because they'll fly up a few feet in the air.

All that said, I've had tons of fun doing it, but I can definitely see how it's actually pretty dangerous. I haven't done it in a long time. I did hear from Adventureland CMs that they are supposed to E-stop if they see someone doing it. They don't always do it, but I don't bounce anymore because I'd hate to ruin the ride for everyone else. (Also because I realized just how dangerous it is! But fun. So fun.)

The best Arabian theming has to be in Islands of Adventure (The Lost Continent), Tokyo DisneySea and in Disneyland Paris. The Magic Kingdom's Arabian theming in Adventureland is just sad compared to other parks. Then poor MK has the carpets which hinders the theming even more...

Yes!!! Close the "attraction" please!!!!!

They should have just moved it to be the second dumbo spinner. Eisner and TDO decision to shove this and the shops next to it was ill advised, they do not go with the theming around them. If they wanted a middle eastern addition added to AL, just expand AL and build one.
