Maelstrom's Deplorable Condition

Disney's going to set up donation buckets at the ride exits. Guests drop their donations for future repairs into the containers instead of dropping their coins into the rides waterways. That way we can all be a part of improving o_O the magic.
They could also bring back the Give a Day, Get a Day promotion. This time, however, our volunteer day would be spent fixing up WDW:p

The ride doesn't make sense, the country is okay, just very meh.
and there is no reason whatsoever why there should be any wait for that ride, ever ever ever. when we walk by it and see a line, we laugh at all the people that are being suckered onto that ride expecting anything worth anything. and that conservation video, gah... lol.

Let me see if I am following and apologies if my assumptions are inaccurate. You ride it because your 'wife hysterically laughs thru (through) the whole thing because of how utterly dumb it is.' and 'we laugh at all the people that are being suckered onto that ride expecting anything worth anything'.

Laughing hysterically throughout the ride leads me to believe that this is at least heard by everyone else on the boat. Isn't that rude? And it seems several people on this thread including myself think the ride is definately worth a visit while we are there. Are you laughing at us? Isn't that rude?

Or are you just lying and if so, why are you wasting your time lying on a thread about a ride that you hate?

O.K. I'll bring my paint brush, my tool box and work gloves. Just point me in the right direction and I'll get to work. In fact I'll Give a Few Days if it will help. :p

Except that the Stave church out front is staple of Norwegian architecture, and the Akershus castle is a Norwegian icon. The grass roofs are a feature of traditional Norwegian roof design. The truth is that retheming all of these large buildings would be far more expensive and effort intensive than keeping the ride well-maintained.
You are right. I wasn't really thinking I guess. The church alone will "Stave" off any retheming (pun intended)

I was there last month and I honestly didn't notice these issues. I do enjoy the ride but I probably would prefer if the troll theme extended all the way through it; after the drop, it does end in something of an anti-climax.

The ride could use a little love. What I'd like them to do is the rig the ride so that random boats....say 1 out of every 100...does indeed go down the waterfall.

Funny thing I just noticed while looking up Akershus Castle is if you look at it on Google Maps with a satellite view the Magic/Wonder is docked right beside it :P

I haven't read the rest of the thread yet, but I would tend to agree. The ride is ridiculous and I'm not sure what they're trying to accomplish. Norway is actually the only one of the countries that I don't spend much time in. We usually do Maelstrom, skip the video, blaze through the shop, and head to the next country. The whole time I'm there I feel like someone's going to try to force me into buying a vacation to Norway! I don't even feel like the store has anything extremely unique. It's just a bunch of high dollar ski coats.

At the end of the day, aren't all the countries trying to get you to buy a vacation to said country? I like World Showcase and it can be educative to a degree but I certainly don't hold any delusion that they aren't trying to sell me a product.

What a shame, on our trip last year I finally got my son to go on it and he loved it. Funny I just watching a travel show the other day on PBS and they were in Norway.

My point is just that I generally spend a ridiculous amount of time roaming through the shops in the other countries. They all offer unique items and experiences. Meanwhile, the shop in Norway offers overpriced sweaters.

I LOVE Malestrom! Such a classic ride and I'm glad Disney chooses to keep gems like these. It just needs a little refurb and love.

Always a must ride when I go to Epcot.

Wow, just had an awesome flashback. I visited Oslo in 1997 during a backpacking trip through Europe and went to the fortress, not really knowing what it was at the time. We ate at Akershus (Epcot) during our last trip and I still never put 2 and 2 together. Then I just looked it up on Google maps (per your comment) and realized that's where I visited (and have pictures). Haha .. cool! Thanks for mentioning that!!

The shop is like all the other countries, they have perfume/cologne, shoes, shirts, hats, candy, toys, etc...it's not just a Helly Hansen shoppe.
