Maelstrom and Other Lackluster Queue Lines.

The queue for Norway is just plain boring! That's one thing that I always enjoy about rides, the queue. Don't ask me why, I just feel that it can add to any ride tremendously.

I find the Norway queue is under appreciated quite a bit. Anything else would be a sensory overload and a clash of styles; by going almost hyper modern and minimal you get a chance to cleanse your pallet.

The only lines I hate are ones outside with no cover or protection from heat. And there is only really one that fits that mold....

I don't know what the standard ratio looks like, but they would let Fastpass people go straight through for about 10 minutes, then open up the stand-by line for movement for around 30 seconds, then shut off the stand-by line.
It's supposed to be four fast pass guests for every one standby guest. Most places do it in groups of 80/20, some in 40/10. Depends on the attraction.

The standard ratio is 80-20, but if the Fastpass line get's too backed up, Fastpass will get sent through until the line dies down.

I realize this is a threat about WDW, but the worst queue I've experienced for an e-ticket has to be California Screamin' at DCA. There is essentially no theme, just a line with a lot of switchbacks. It feels about as Six Flags as you can get. On second thought, maybe that was the theme.

I agree that Maelstrom has a boring queue. When it first opened waiting over an hour to ride it though because as op mentioned it was the only thrill ride for many years. They could spruce up the blueish green wallpaper a bit and give us something to look at :ROFLOL:

I always thought a quick fix for Norway's queue, and this would sovle two issues, was to add the post show film to tv's in the pre ride queue. It would add to the queue with minimal cost, and they could remove the post show, and expand the village as you exit.

I love this idea. Anytime I'm there, probably 9 out if 10 people just skip the post-show anyway.

Soarin's queue is very misleading. Every turn is another 20-30 minutes of waiting, and the rate at which they let FASTPASS into the attraction vs. stand by is incredible. Besides the virtual games, once you're past that it's pretty boring...there's lots of exposed piping that doesn't look too pretty.

I agree. DCA's is much better themed. And I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the FP to Standby ratio is outrageous.

Splash Mountain's and Indiana Jones's Adventure at Disneyland queues are oversold. Yes, they set the mood, but other than that you're still waiting in line with not a whole lot to look at.

I agree. I had read so much about how you HAVE to stand in line to appreciate the queue. Well, I did. Once. Didn't find it to be anything special. I stuck the single rider line the rest of my trip.

The rides in Fantasyland have pretty sub-standard queues, and Space Mountain is not a whole lot better. Once you get past the games, it's more switchbacks and chipped paint.

I agree. We need a Disneyland-style makeover of Fantasyland.

Rock 'n' Rollercoaster doesn't have a terrible queue, but there's certainly not much to do. Tower of Terror is nicely themed, but it's all eye candy.

Eye candy is all a queue should be. You don't want to distract people too much...especially if the queue turns out to be better than the attraction itself.

The best queue, in my opinion, is Jungle Cruise at the Magic Kingdom. There are so many gags (auditory and visual) and the theming is so authentic; the wait is much more adequate.

I don't know about that. Kali River Rapids is so immersive in its themeing that I personally think that is the best queue themeing.

Wow, are you sure that was Indy?

I mean, seriously there's a ton of stuff in that queue. The spike room, the spooky music, ancient writing on the walls (which have real translations), the talking well, the calendar room, the cave, the boarded up falling stones, mara eyes on the floor that activate sounds, Indy's office, film props (Raiders truck and Temple of Doom mine carts) in the outside queue, tons of stuff. Sorry, I know its your opinion but I honestly can't see why one would call the Indy queue "nothing special."

What would you say the number one queue is? I think it might be Space Mountain as the best queue.

As far as the ones I've visited, its a toss up between Indiana Jones Adventure and Roger Rabbit's Car Toon spin at Disneyland.

I also forgot all about the Kali River Rapids queue. That's a fantastic one! The temples, the bird shop with real birds, the rafting offices, the distant chainsaw sounds, its probably one of the best ones at WDW.
