i had lunch with an imagineer today! he was in sound mixing/effects/etc. so the first question i asked was about onboard audio and the space mountain refurb. he said "please don't get me started on audio for space mountain." he said as of this morning, the audio was no go. he went on to say that disney fans looking to be amazed by the refurb may be let down, as there was nothing really outstanding about anything they were doing. he did, however, say that until the attraction is actually shut down, that details are still being added/taken away, so that there was still a push to get the audio on. just thought some of you guys would like to hear. i now leave it to you.

Nice one, hope you enjoyed your meal, I reckon issues/debates within the company such as whether to have onboard audio or not will continue even once the attraction closes down.

Oh I looooved when we did our lunch w/an imagineer! The food was soooo good and the conversation so interesting. I fully loved the experience and think I may ditch my brother & nieces for a solo lunch in May. :slurp:

the other thing that i liked hearing about, was that this particular imagineer seemed to believe that disney was starting to realize that they are a "cash fat" company and not letting the economy dictate what they do from a refurb/construction standpoint. pretty much saying that he saw them doing what plans they had lined up as to have a lot of things finished by the time the economy rebounds, and folks start flocking back down.

I wonder if he gave you that information on purpose? Funny how he would say we might be let down on the SM refurb. Has anyone else found the info these lunch's produce to be accurate?

At least you got some information. I had lunch with the paint expert that worked on EE and now on AKL DVC. She was a very nice woman, just not what I was expecting when I think Imagineer.

we ate in the bamboo room at the brown derby. it was a great meal. i tried to be a bit skeptic going into it. but as the lunch went on, 2 and a half hours to be exact, i just didn't get the feeling my leg was being pulled. he did say that he had been in meetings over the 2 prior days, and that 98% of the discussions they had, he could not speak of. all in all, i felt like he was being as forthcoming as he could. he didn't mind, at all, saying whether or not he knew of plans of a certain attraction.

Did you happen to get the guy's name?

jim dotson was the guy's name. the stuff i asked about, which were topics i'd seen discussed here, he didn't have much problem talking about. he had just seen the obama bust that the aa was going to be built from. said it looked great. no word one way or the other on the speaking/not speaking. he simply put it that he had heard of nothing that would lead him to believe that he wasn't going to make a speech. he did say that there was an upcoming refurb to disneyland's hop, and that it would be lincoln on steroids. he actually said that it would seem as if old abe had been resurrected. with no elaboration, there were plans for ariel's grotto. just said that there was something nice planned. he seemed to cut that one short pretty quick, and change the subject. cbj christmas show cut because of money to re-acquire song rights. and i've just gotten in from the 2nd spectromagic, and my mind is about to shut down for the night. he spoke of sooooo much, and i can't quite remember anything else right now. if you guys think of something i haven't covered, just bring it up, and i'll check on here tomorrow during my noon break from the mk and jog my foggy brain.
