Luggage

How does the luggage situation work on the DCL? I check my bag with the airline; I arrive at MCO and does the DCL pick up my luggage?
Also, on disembark day, I'm taking the DCL back to MCO, but I'm renting a car from MCO. Can I just take my luggage off the DCL bus and be on my way?

I've never used the airline. However, I am almost positive if you get the tags, the luggage will be taken to the stateroom

And yes you can

If you are flying into Orlando on the day of your cruise you put your luggage tags on and Disney will pick them up. I recommend flying in the day before in case there are any delays so you do not miss the cruise. If you fly in the day before do not put on the luggage tags until you are ready to had the bags over to Disney. They day you get off of the boat everyone gets their luggage and takes them with them on to DCL transportation.

You bring your luggage along (getting it from the carousel and all) until you get to the bus at MCO...THEN Disney takes it and it'll be in your stateroom by like 3 or something...getting off you have a bunch of options, ALL will be explained to you the day before disembarkation....

If I do NOT take Disney transportation from MCO to PC, but I am staying at the Hyatt the night before embarkation. Can I participate in the Hyatt luggage pick-up program, where I leave my tagged luggage in my Hyatt room and it appears on the cruise ship that afternoon?

I wouldn't think so. That'd be kinda like sending your luggage w/DME to the WDW resorts if you aren't riding the bus which they won't do. I don't know for sure but I wouldn't think that would work. The luggage transport to the port I believe is part of the convenience you pay for by taking Disney's transfers. It's a selling point. If they transported luggage for folks not paying for their transfers it would negate that perk. KWIM?

You can not. It's only for those on transfers.

^ Makes sense. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't a Hyatt perk versus a Disney transportation perk. Thanks as always for your great responses!

Now to decide if we get our own transfer or use Disney :/ Now that you cannot check-in and get your boarding number at MCO, I am tempted to book my own transportation. Our group is big enough where we will probably save money. The main thing is the inconvenience of dragging luggage around. I will have three mostly capable senior citizens, my two small children (under 5yo), my wife, and myself. The load of organizing and making everything seamless is on me.

What are some preferred transfer companies. We would not be interested in sharing a van/bus with others if we went this route. Approximate cost, if you have any ideas, for a limo that holds 7? Thanks again!

Most limo/transfer services offer an array of vehicle options to fit most any family size. Key questions you should ask: Are there any surcharges or additional fees? Do you charge additional for child/booster seats? I just booked transfers for 2 with Black Car Orlando. They seem to be less expensive than others, at least for a towncar. Your party would likely fit best in a van because the stretch limo would be more limited on luggage space. On their rate page the van is quoted at $130 one-way or $250 round trip. The only additional cost I was told when I called to ask questions was the recommended 20% gratuity. Even with a $50 gratuity (round trip) That's certainly a substantial savings over using DCL's transfers (7 people x $70 round trip transfers = $490). Do some web searching and check out multiple companies. There's no such thing as too much knowledge to facilitate the right decisions! ;)

@sweetpee_1993 Did you ever book the make-up cruise yet?

LOL! We're insane. No. We're going to. We're holding out for the discounts to roll out for the sailing we want. There's still a ton available. They just released discounts for the last of August so it shouldn't be too long. Plus, I recently read that last year the discounts for the September sailings came out about 32 days prior to sailing. I'm still confident it will happen. We don't really care what category we land in so the importance of going cheap trumps picking location. ;)

We are cruising next June. There will be 11 of us and I got a quote of $315 round trip from WDW to Port Canaveral and back to WDW. It would be less to/from the airport. You also get a 20 min. grocery stop if you book round trip.
@sweetpee_1993 I still need to call Black Car Orlando and set up our transfers for next June. Did they require payment up front, a deposit, or just a credit card number? What is their cancellation policy?

Credit card number for the reservation. It won't be charged until 24 hrs before pickup. :D
