Just read a tweet from a monorail driver that the Tronorail wrap is coming off tonight. I know this is a hot topic around these parts so thought I would pass it on. I for one never really was bothered by it but in the same respect think it is definitely time to move on.

@CanobieFan - Aww, just saw Monorail Coral for the last time pass by as the #Tronorail , the wrap comes off, right now!

Let's just hope they don't plan on putting a new wrap on it immediately for another movie :)

"Bervery Hills Chihuahua 2" is being released soon. Should we be worried? :)

Technically they are about as futuristic as the last scene in Carousel of Progress.

Does anyone else think that instead of using the Vinyl stickers/overlay to advertise something, perhaps they should use the same Vinyl but instead just completely cover the monorail with it's respective color?

That's the first thing that came to mind when I first saw the Tronorail. Imagine a monorail's respective color expressed bright and vividly covering the entire body. IE imagine the Tronorail without the lightcycle but just the normal blue backdrop - that would be monorail blue for example... then one for Red, Coral, Orange... etc.

For some reason when I see the monorail in it's current incarnation, I do think it looks old. I guess it's because I remember it looking that way ever since I was young with little to no change. But having seen the vinyl wrap for the tronorail, it reminds me that the shape of the monorail still looks super-awesome. I presume it would be a relatively cheep way to reinvigorate the monorails without purchasing new ones (it's amazing how much of a difference a facelift can make) especially to coincide with these rumors of an "internal" overhaul. If that came to pass, let's hope there are plans to overhaul the air conditioning while they are at it .

Thoughts? Maybe we have some Photoshop wizards in our midsts who could mock something up for illustration haha.

That would be interesting. Almost like how Disneyland's new monorails are. Don't the have a red, blue and yellow ones?

The new Disneyland monorails are already kind of like that:

I do like the Disneyland monorails. They're very sleek and more futuristic than our current fleet is. However, I think they fit better in Disneyland. The monorails leave DLitself, I know, but it's still more of an in-park attraction, and they fit well in Tomorrowland. Our monorails almost have to be more generic because they have to fit in outside the MK gates, along World Drive and in Future World. Something too bright or noticeable would definitely be out of place in all three of those locations. Blue, Green, Black, Red, Silver, Gold--those would all be kind of spiffy. But Coral, Yellow and Lime would be very distracting if the entire train were painted/covered in those colors. But done correctly, it would be interesting for a change of pace.

You know, you're right. We need some Photoshop!

Glad to see Coral returning. It was good to see the Tronorail make an appearance, but it was starting to overstay its welcome.

I only saw two trains when I was there a couple weeks ago (orange-red with blue windows, and blue with purple windows). Do they have more than two trains?

I do have to say that I love the Disneyland monorails - both their design and experience, though it's obviously a ride and not a transportation device (when we stayed at the DL Hotel back in 2007, we couldn't take the monorail back to our resort because they stopped running it well before the park closed). But it was a welcome surprise to be offered a seat with the driver - what a view! I miss that from WDW, but I understand why.

I actually think DL's monorails are more futuristic in their profile but less so in their color schemes. The bright colors seemed very retro, and I believe that was deliberate.

I agree with this, but not so much because a more colorful monorail would necessarily be out of place but rather because it would seem less futuristic. WDW's monorails certainly reflect a 90s color sensibility, and I would hate to see those colors applied across the entire train. Something more futuristic would be awesome though.

Oh you kids with your "Car phones" and "Laser Discs" and talking computers.

Rover, speak!
The third should be "high def tv's." For awhile we didn't even have a house phone. Not to mention laser discs and high def TV. The daughter is the one who mentions car phones.

(And yes I do ride CoP WAY too much.)

Its about time! The Tron wraps were nice, but the movie came out last December. This is long overdue. Lets just hope that they don't replace the Tron covers with new ones. The white monorails look classier.

I actually enjoyed the Tronorails just because I thought the wrapping was really cool. Didn't really care that they were advertisements. But it will be nice to see those two colors come back.

I didn't mind the Tron wrap on Coral for the first couple of weeks. Then it was starting to get more annoying and wasn't coming off! I am glad to see Coral again!
