So, this isn't about the main portion of the relaxing boat ride at Epcot... But more about the little show scenes throughout the ride. Those are actually the main reason I ride it, I don't ride it for the plantation part. I could actually do without it! But that's just my opinion.

Back on topic though.. It seems in my personal opinion that out of everything in Epcot that is considered "dated," this seems to be the most overlooked portion. I guess while riding it's not thought of very much. The rainforest scene, the farm house scene, ect.. But I think these small scenes could be definitely updated with some new realistic AAs! Lik the dog and the chickens.. The alligators and such. I think maybe even replace the projector scene in the "barn" with some more show scenes! Honestly, I think it would make the ride a lot more interesting to the eye with some very realistic AAs. Because at the moment, it's more of an educational indoor Jungle Cruise-style theme. While Jungle Cruise takes the cheesiness with some jokes, this ride is trying to make the scenes feel real with it's narration.

So... Why not make them look real? Just my opinion.

This topic usually is ignored whenever I bring it up, so I'm hoping it gets some sort of attention. It seems like the #1 thing that Disney actually won't do anything about above all else because absolutely nobody ever mentions it.

I completely agree. One of the most underrated rides in my opinion, but unlike a lot I genuinely enjoy it. Although, I have never liked those projector scenes and thought that the scenes could be updated, like you said. I really would want this to happen!!!!

I prefer that Disney ignores this ride. It allows it to stay intact. If Disney tried to fix it, I doubt we'd like what happened to it. So shhhh....don't speak of it too loudly. Disney seems to have forgotten that they haven't gotten around to ruining it yet, so lets not remind them. :)

I really enjoy LwTL for what it is....as it is one of the last 'original' semi-untouched Attractions still to be experienced at EPCOT.

The last time i rode in early 2013 i was impressed at how well it still holds up after all this time.
But i love me some 'old school WED' experiences, and i love the landscape scenes as they are.

Well, I mean a very simple refurb and dusting on these scenes wouldn't hurt it. Similar to like a Tiki Room referb, to update or upgrade the AAs mainly.

Oh I agree, I just fear it would result in the reduction or removal of greenhouse space for more Soarin theaters, the worsening of the narration ala TTA, and the addition of characters of some sort. I'd love for Disney to do simple refurbs on many rides, but right now I just don't trust them. So, neglect is the safer alternative.

I'm half kidding of course. refurbs are a good thing. But I do know that whenever the next LwtL refurb gets announced I'll be holding my breath until we get word that its not being gutted or ruined. The track record in Epcot has been too poor lately not to worry.

There's probably not even a need for a simple refurb as it is. It usually gets a pretty decent line-length. Luckily it's still fast wait with the capacity each two boats take in..

I'd be curious to know how much in dollar value the greenhouse produces in crops that it provides for the restaurants there. The space the ride takes up is part of the asset it brings to the pavilion which should keep it going as is for many years.

Realistic AA would be nice. Hey, if they want it to feel real-er, why not bring back an actual guide?
Edit: Wait, after thinking about it I think I prefer the narration more, it makes the ride more relaxing.

I agree! There's something so charming about this ride that screams classic Disney! My first visit was in 2001, so I never got to experience classic Epcot and I feel this is the closest I'll ever get to that. Just reading this thread title took me to the portion with the big screens and I got feels haha I love them because of the "classic" music and voiceovers (notice I used classic, not old). Oddly enough, nothing about this attraction screams old or outdated to me... eventhough I guess it is... But it doesn't feel that way. If they changed or updated anything, I feel like it would lose that charm and, over time, fall into that old and dated category a lot faster.

I like this ride for what it is. A few years ago I rode it and the dog on the front porch of the farm house wasn't there. You could hear the bark but no dog. Last year we went and he had returned but in the rainforest scene the rain (where the fishing line is lit up to look like it is raining) wasn't working. The sound was there but it didn't look like it was raining.

I rode it monday and all the effects seemed to be working. The ending kodak picture boards could use an update but that would be the only thing I'd touch on the ride and those aren't THAT bad.

I really enjoy LwTL and like you the little show scenes early on are my favorite part. I actually think they hold up well without any complicated AAs or projection effects.

From Disney's standpoint, for updates/upgrades (not talking about fixing problems or issues with bad show, just cosmetic upgrades) you have to look at ROI. If they spend a lot of money updating the AAs, SFX, etc, is the ROI going to justify it? I'd say likely not. The traffic to LwTL is what it is. I don't think cosmetic upgrades are going to increase foot traffic much, if any. As a Disney fanatic, I'd love to see it, but I understand why Disney isn't likely to ever do it.

There's a great opportunity to really do something here, not that I think Disney will take it. Once the new Soarin' film opens, hopefully with an entrance in World Showcase instead of the land, remake the Land back into a three-part pavilion, with a common set of AAs/characters narrating or playing a part in all three attractions. Start with what is now the Circle of Life theater. A new movie, narrated by a family (maybe our Carousel of Progress family). Then boat ride, with our family members in the opening scenes. The greenhouses stay the same until the end, when the our narrators return for a final word. And finally, a show in the old Kitchen Kabaret theater, featuring our AA family talking about future land use, or maybe the way nature is changing the land.

But it'll never happen.

I agree with the need for updating certain ride show elements, but I'd keep most of LWtL as-is. The early scenes could use better animatronics, as could other Future World attractions like Universe of Energy. If they can put in realistic dinos in "Dinosaur", why can't they put them in UoE?

Another thing to keep in mind about this Attraction is that it has one of the last remaining 'EPCOT Center Murals'.
If i am counting correctly, it is one of only three hand painted murals now left...the others being at the entrance to' Spaceship Earth', and the huge one located in 'Maelstrom's' loading area.

One of the many things i always liked about EPCOT Center back in the day was the spectacular art murals located inside the various Pavilions.
Almost all of the Future World Pavilions had one ...either painted, or created with other elements ( tiles come to mind..).
Some real museum quality works used to be present, but alas, they are now gone.

I would be sad to see the LwTL mural located in the loading area and along the queue walls be removed or painted over.
We can already guess at the fate of the one located in 'Maelstrom'...so i hope those visiting soon take some good quality digital photos of it.

My family loves this ride. We even did the behind the seeds tour. We use it as a air conditioning break after walking around for a while. It is relaxing and entertaining.

I took a Keys to the Kingdom tour once and the guide told us the answer is zero. Any food grown there is put in the employee lounge for anyone to take home,.... I was disappointed to hear that..,...
