Living With the Land...in peril?

Yes, I'm 100% THAT mom that will embarrass you in front of the entire world if you dare sass me in public.
Same. And that holds not just for my own kids. I have called out obnoxious and disrespectful behavior from kids/teens before (at a local Six Flags in one instance), and will not hesitate to do it again. I have three teens and worked as a substitute teacher for 3 years in every grade from K-12. (HT to all you teachers. I could not do your job every day -- I APPRECIATE YOU!) Plus, my tolerance for disrespect is nearly non-existent and I often have more emotion than forethought. ALSO, if you see my kid being disrespectful, you have my permission to set him/her straight and my thanks in advance.

Flipside -- I'll also compliment the crap out of kids I see doing good things or behaving well. (Don't want anyone to think I'm all, "GET OFF MY LAWN!" all the time.)

Exactly. If you set a a standard that when you do something like this, you get the book plus the kitchen sink thrown at you, it will stop. I get they might not want to make a scene in front of the other guests. But if the other guests see some jack wipe getting hauled off in cuffs for being an idiot. That word travels fast.
Although that is true, I don't remember that ever happening in the past so one incident in 38 years. This might have a copy cat result, but there is no way to permanently stop stupid. I'm sure it might have already been mentioned but the shut down might be to find a way to prevent people from stepping off the boats. What a freaking stupid country we live in now.

SAME! The last instance was at a local amusement park...a bunch of tween-aged girls were being obnoxious in the queue switchbacks, messing with the chains of the queue (and disturbing other people), leaning on and pulling on the supports of the tent that was put up for shade, etc. etc. All the other kids in line were watching them and it was going to cause a ripple effect...so I let them have it. Afterwards they kept giving me dirty looks, so I just kept smiling at them. 😁

I once also "fell" in spectacularly clumsy fashion in order to distract a father who was screaming at his family at the top of his lungs at WDW (I almost "fell" on him...he was already so worked up that he was swearing quite loudly and I was afraid it was going to escalate). It was very clear that the entire family was miserable and just needed a break and something to eat and drink. I knew it was risky...but it worked...and my husband was with me and was in on my plan.

copycat especially if it goes viral is a dangerous thing. One lady grabbing a cucumber in the grand scheme is meaningless. One guy sneaking into an attraction once isnt a big deal. Its when people think, "hey they did it, i bet i can do something even cooler" and you have people making it a tiktok challenge, or you have 3 people a night trying to sneak in to record.

^^^ This. This is why I mentioned Jackass upthread. People are stupid and if they think they can get their 15 minutes of fame and be "discovered", they'll do anything.

Consequences are important. We need to teach that to the people who think they're too mean. (Yes, I'm 100% THAT mom that will embarrass you in front of the entire world if you dare sass me in public.)

With my kids at Disney I'm playing with house money. Lived there for years pre-kids. Seen it all, done it all. I'll take you back to the hotel and sit there all day and be happy as a clam taking a nap or reading. Don't test me.

I think WDW tries to be discreet with this to not ruin the " magic ". I've seen armed Orange County deputies inside Epcot for a disturbance during Food and Wine and then escort the individual without handcuffs to a back area away from peering eyes.

Reminds me of the old Letterman standby 'security guards in mouse suits will beat you senseless'.

When the drunken Navy officer pilot Annapolis graduate assaulted and injured three cast members with a metal pipe during Food and Wine several years ago he was later subdued and received a black eye. Whoops! He must have slipped...

We taught them before their first trip that if they whined or put up a stink about ANYTHING that we'd hire one of the on-site babysitters to stay in the resort room with them so hubby and I could go enjoy the parks. ;) (I'm all about pre-emptive strike parenting.)

In all seriousness though...we've only ever had 2 melt-downs in multiple trips, and one of those was entirely my fault. Silly me didn't realize that you can see Dumbo - my then-4-year-old son's favorite - from Speedway, and that was our last ride before leaving for the airport. Needless to say, a massive melt-down ensued. The other was during the same trip when the same son decided he wanted to walk instead of riding in his stroller...but without holding hands (both our boys are autistic, and he was a runner in a big way when he was little and also liked to hide and not come when he was called). We let him have his 10-minute melt-down, he chose to hold hands, and we haven't had a single issue since. Aside from those two instances, we've never heard as much as a single whine about anything at WDW...it's our family happy place and our boys consistently choose to be in the parks from open to close.

I certainly hope it's some unscheduled maintenance and not some bigger project being done. I'm sure it would have been announced but like many here, unexpected closures make me nervous. Looking at you 20k.
Maybe they need to send the boiler back in!
