Living Seas and Land to combine?

The Living Seas may close down for some kind of rehab in Spring 2002. There are loose plans to "expand" the Living Seas. No one seems to know much more than that at this point, but the entire Pre-Show, Hydrolator, and SeaCab sequences could be replaced in the process.

This may coincide with the above expansion. While we have nothing firm on this at the time, other sources claim that there is indeed a plan to link the Land and Sea pavilions with a new Weather themed pavilion, turning the whole area into one giant experience. It has been heard that the Hurricane Simulator ride going into TokyoDisneySea may be under consideration for Epcot as well. It seems that it just might fit, space and theme wise, somewhere between The Land and The Living Seas pavilions. Plus it would really increase traffic to this quiet section of the park. Don’t look for this any time soon however... even if approved construction wouldn’t start until after Mission: Space opens in 2003.

I really hope this happens, it would be really cool, as long as they rehabed the Living Seas. (tighten tunnels, update movie and hydrolators, etc)

Hopefully they'll also do something about The Life Pavillion, with Mission: Space and Body wars, they'll have 2 simulator type attractions, with the Storm Simulator, that would be 3, not that that would be all that terrible, but hopefully a Star Tours rehab will make for a Body wars rehab, too.

Great Idea

That sounds like a great idea, I hope they do that. They need to realize that EPCOT needs something new other than those big rides that break down.

You may have misunderstood...

Your source, when saying "Between Living Seas and The Land" for the Hurricane Sim, is likely just referring to the empty lot, and not an actual plan to link the buildings all together.

Both pavilions are already under reduced operating hours. The Living Seas is open until 7pm. Food Rocks closes at 7 and Circle of Life closes at 8.

I know I may be on my own here, but I don't want The Land to close down. Surely there is space around Living Sea's for any expansion.

Well, I don't think they will be closing The Land down. They just added Fast Pass in there and the food court it a good money maker. I think what one person said about them sort of 'grouping' three pavilions together is more likely. It would actually make a lot of sense because with TT, Mission Space and Universe of Energy they sort of have a tech and industry theme on one side and with these three over on the other side they would have more of a nature theme. JIYM wouldn't fit exactly but on the other hand Wonders of Life doesn't exactly fit on the other side. At least this way there would be a bit of cohesion with the themes. In any event, this side of the park definitely needs something to happen because traffic in future world is currently a bit lopsided. I wonder about the rumored changes to The Living Seas though. This is currently one of the more expensive pavilions (in the way of upkeep) as it is and not even close to the most popular. It's also currently without a sponsor. Disney's been hard at work looking for one for a while too. Dose this mean that they have possibly found a new sponsor for this pavilion on top of the one they would probably need for the weather related one? I think they would have trouble finding a company willing to give up enough money to sponsor a single giant pavilion which is another reason that the "three" on that side probably wouldn't be just one big one.

I think using the word "combine" was a bad idea for this topic... I too have heard the strong rumor of the hurricane sim comeing to epcot (in fact theres another thread on this forum about it)..and I heard that IF they were to follow thru with it...it would actually spawn a new pavillion..the "weather pavillion". The common themes of the epcot sections really add to these rumors (one side technology..one side natural)...

Only time will tell...and ideas always change...until mission space opens...we are most likley not to hear much on this topic..and even then...they will have to budget it in which could mean the CLOSING of another attraction (the pattern of Disney is for every new ride that opens..an old one has to close), which will lead to more complaints from us disney addicts (I still have faith that Horizons will come back!)

I dunno...I kinda like the 'natural' side of Epcot as it is...it's such a nice space to just get away from the crowds! I think a hurricane simulation type ride might be pretty cool...as long as they don't 'simulate' a huge wave crashing in from the ocean! :D As for them linking the 3 together, I really hope that's just a big rumor...I think having 3 seperate buildings would be much better...and maybe having a shortcut walkway connecting them.
And as for Living Seas getting an update, I think that is ver wise! It's been needing it for quite a while! I never have really liked little show at the beginning. I first saw it when I was really young, and at that age, all I cared about was seeing the 'fishies' lol. And by the time I got old enough to actually be interested in the show, I had already seen it quite a few times.
I guess only time will tell what Disney has up its sleeves for this area!
*NowInc- I too wish Horizons would come back! As well as the original Journey Into Imagination! Oh how I miss Dreamfinder and Figment!! Not to mention the wonderful upstairs playground! Ah, those were the days!!

Ahhh, Wonders of Life kind of screws up this theme, but if you look at them regardless of location, your right.

entire original JIYI ride is stored in that upstairs "playground" in case it is needed at a later date....

This is true..all of the unused sections of the old ride are all stored in the upstairs area..however...the props are mostly all dissasembled and already being added to other areas of the park..so you wont see a comeback of the old Imagination ride...sorry :(

I have nightmares every night of Dreamfinder sitting at an unemployment office...

Although I dearly miss the old Journey ride, I would not be too upset if they did not bring it completely back. Just please, please, please fix up that sad excuse for a replacement!!!!

In fact the dreamship is in MouseGears. You can see it if you stand at the registers on the west side and turn around. I'm sure someone has a picture of it.

My wife was quite surprised when I pointed it out last year.

The JIYI ride as it currently sits isn't bad. It certainly isn't good either. It is just a huge change from a magical, whimsical ride that it had been.

I can still hear figment singing as you go around the round-about. Imaaaaagination, Imaaaagination. A dream....
