well Lee.. its time for some insider to be honest with us.. and just say, hey , you remember what Disney was like 10 years ago.. well that's what its going to be like 10 years from now..

where are those photos from the abandoned theme park in New Orleans? that's the new "annoucement".. AK , you have been abandoned..MGM,, abandoned..
EPCOT.. abandoned..
MK well you have a new ride.. so you are the only remaining "Disney" park from the Old ownership... oh and don't expect a mono rail ride.. its all buses all the time from now on..
LEE tell us that I am wrong. Tell us that some one at Disney Company actually cares.. or isn't a bean counter..
TELL US IT ISN"T SO.. because every day it looks more and more like it is..

Well, technically MGM was abandoned long ago. It's now DHS. Or didn't you get the memo?

And before you go further off your usual ledge, point out where any improvements to DHS or EP were being predicted. I know younhave a thing against "bean counters," but let's try to keep things in perspective.

I'm not a bean counter and I agree that they have a tendancy to squeeze most of the creative juice out of the Imagineering process, but in reality, if it weren't for at least some of the bean counters, Disney might be in the same mess that the old US of A is in right now.

In Disney's eyes they do not need to make announcements right now. There is enough in the public domain for people to feed on. Fantasyland, DCA, Shanghai, Hawaii, new Cruise Line.

As long as things are happening behind the scenes with new attraction development i am fine with not hearing about it officially now.

Well of course YOUR fine with it because you are privy to inside information. You already know what's going on and what's coming, but for the majority of us, we are left to wait for these announcements. We can only talk about fantasyland expansion for so long. I think what bugs me the most is we're left to discuss these random rumors like brazil pavilion, monsters Inc coaster, imagination rehab, etc. and don't know if its a made up fanboy pipe dream or if their is actually a chance of it coming to fruition. I think everyone is just getting antsy and we're all fantasyland expansioned out.

It'll be fine...
Waiting years between attractions is nothing new. MK has been almost 20 years between E-tickets, without one in currently in sight.

There are things in the pipeline for all the parks. Some of these things will arrive eventually, but on the company's timeframe...not ours.

What sets today's event apart from the past is this wonderful internet. Without it we would never know what is coming until they told us. FLE would have been a shocker when Rasulo announced it, as would have Star Tours.

Nowdays, we know what is coming way before they really want us to. We're like kids searching the house for Christmas presents.
Perhaps we are doing ourselves a disservice...
Maybe we'd all be better off just sitting back and waiting on them to make their announcements and then being surprised.
(Hmmm...maybe that would make a nice blog/rant...)

Anyhow...Shanghai looks nice. I look forward to getting over there in a few years.

Kinda fits in to what I was saying. Without the internet and boards like these, we wouldn't know about those things, and thus wouldn't be disappointed when they aren't announced.
We're kinda asking to be let down, in a way...

For what it's worth...all those things you mentioned are actually in various stages of development. May not ever happen....but thay are not pipe dreams.

While I do agree with you, I don't think the parks are close to the wreckless spending the film studios are in. I mean almost every single Disney movie released in theaters these days has a budget of $150-$250 million and most of them don't make up that money in box office returns. Pirates? Yes. Prince of Persia? No. They're spending $300 million to make John Carter. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen wasn't even $200 to make to put things in perspective. While one could argue about the quality of the films, that means nothing if people don't pay to see it in theaters.

If Disney invested the amount of ONE film budget ($150-$250 million) each year in a new attraction each year at ONE of their theme parks on a rotating basis, we would end up with a better attraction count than we have right now. Remember Disney releases several films a year.

Hey, I was wishing and hoping for some kind of announcement. But, I do not think this is the end of the world. Would I have liked more? Sure, just like many of you.

But, some of you need to step away from the ledge.

With all due respect Lee, the internet rumor mill didn't convince me that the parks have become stale on an unprecedented scale.

My experience visiting the parks has shown me that, which is why the lack of announcements is disheartening.

The execs just aren't interested in investing in the parks in ways that would bring those parks up to speed.

Well...they try...

Better than Busch Gardens…. See 2012 rollercoaster.

Either way. I visit Disney from Va several times a year and still have yet to feel bored or let down in the slightest manner. You hit the nail on the head in regards to the internet essentially acting as a demon of sorts.

We shall always see what the futures holds as time progresses.

And I agree with you....the whole film business (all the studios) seem to run the way our gov't runs, spend, spend, spend....

I wish WDW profits were put back into WDW rather than the general WDC fund. We'd be a lot happier for sure (shareholders, maybe not).

Disney never put up D23 as the place for announcements. It happened at the first one because the timing was right. The fans are the ones that have made D23 into this hope of announcements - not Disney.

If anything, Disney have made it clear now that D23 does not mean new attraction announcements.

True, D23 was supposed to be a fan community, but it's not very impressive now. Steve, I'm not sure if you are a charter member, but I am. In that first year, D23 shipped special patches, pins, Christmas memorabilia, a ticket book reproduction, and a calendar—plus the magazine. Disney was pulling out all the stops to make D23 successful, and D23 really did feel like a special fan club. Of course reality had to set in at some point, but Disney has downsized the club to the point that it's basically just a magazine and a card.

Disney's own PR machine has been bested by the online community. WDW Magic is superior for Florida; MiceChat excels with California; Alain Littaye's blog is lovely; Martin's videos provide park history and drool-worthy attraction retrospectives.

That was pathetic. Any chance this is the death of D23? My wife and I were at DLR in June and had a passing thought of returning for this event. I am so crazy glad we didn't! Had I spent $ for this I would be irate.

D23 was never all that great, it never felt special to me even as a charter member. It sucked from day one honestly. You still get all the cheap reproduction "memorabilia" and patches each month. D23 has always been a lame money grab.
