This is a good point. It seemed like it started out with a bang, and then sort of fizzled off, and didn't really conclude well.

How is it that DLR hires presidents that have such passion for their park? Awesome.

From the outside, it appears to me that the biggest criticism of D23 from those who are there, by far, is the poor crowd management.

Wow, maybe I'm just lucky with regard to airfare. We typically pay $200 RT or less to MCO, and $250 RT or less to SNA.

With regard to staying off-site at each: staying off-site at WDW really penalizes you with regard to EMH. Not the case at DLR. Also, you have to rent a car if you stay off-site at WDW. Not the case at DLR. If you don't care about EMH, and would rent a car at DLR regardless, I suppose your mileage may vary on these things.

As for your last comment:

I have read complaints about the poor crowd management as well... Maybe the presentation didn't translate well via internet stream... I don't know... I do know the excitement was just not there and I didn't feel it coming from Staggs and the other speakers...

Exactly. I would have liked to have seen a bombshell or two dropped in last night's P&R presentation. But if the presentation had been better, the lack of new info wouldn't have mattered. The show was flat and boring. That's inexcusable from a company like Disney where show is the business.

(Especially at $40/head!)

I didn't get to view the Studios presentation. Maybe it was more lively. (I think it would have to be.) The only thing I have to go on is the list of announcements. That list is underwhelming. But perhaps the presentation was a hit by virtue of being entertaining.

If they spoke about FLE, SDMC, Carsland, and Shanghai with more excitement, more interest, that could have saved the presentation... They didn't seem to care... They didn't seem thrilled about the projects they are working on... That is what i got out of it... if management and Imagineering aren't excited about these projects, why should I be???

We live in Indianapolis (much closer to WDW), and I've yet to pay >$50 extra to fly to SNA as compared to MCO. Just have to watch airfare.

Plus, Disneyland is cheaper (for us) because everything is within walking distance and there's no "requirement" to stay at a (more expensive) Disney-owned hotel.

What I'm saying, is that in my experience, the "extra cost" argument is at best an exaggeration, and more likely, a myth.

Not a myth. You must understand that the cost of flying would be dependent upon the departure location.

I certainly didn't expect all of the perceived problems at WDW to wiped away yesterday, I just wanted a little bone thrown my way. You say FLE is the aberrational spending; I say it got us up to normal. I'm willing to consider the FLE as a whole as the E-ticket MK has gone almost 20 years without, but I think there should be smaller projects around the World concurrent to FLE.

I think this is a very valid point, and one I definitely agree with. I guess my response, though, is that you can't expect the failures of the past 20 years at the MK to be remedied in 4 or 5 years. Disney simply can't go "California Adventure" on its most popular tourist destination. I don't think we'll see any substantial additions started on WDW until FLE is at least 75% done.

If Disney announced those additions, which wouldn't break ground until 2012 or 2013, people would complain that the announcements are so far in the future. It's almost a zero-sum game for Disney.

BVS presentation starting--this should be another cool P&R presentation! (Warning: don't expect announcements.)

Warning: It's fine to want new attractions and 'announcements', particularly at a resort that a person loves and spends thousands and thousands of dollars on/at.

BTW - if anyone cares, the information about BVS sounds pretty awesome! Really cool photos being posted by those there!

You're absolutely right.

I didn't need to see anything new. I just needed an interesting presentation about the projects I already knew about. If your management doesn't present well, hire a presenter. Get a celebrity to do it. Having Tom Staggs present to a crowd like he's a high school algebra teacher sucks the life out of it.

I had to wait until Steve posted the videos to even see them... And the videos were underwhelming as well.. A 10 seconf flyover of the FLE model didn't really interest me, and even though the video gives you a nice sens eof SDMC, the CGI was poor... A little better CGI video would have made the presentation better in my opinion and caused even more excitement about the SDMC... The poor CGI one we got last night caused a nice stir... imagine a well crafted CGI video of the ride???

I don't think these things are too much to ask of Disney... Not of a multi-billion dollar entertainment company...

What ya got?

Photos of the off-center hub (very cool idea), shop interior concept art, etc.

Actually, I have to admit...I am REALLY hoping for an announcement here. If you follow my photos at all, you might know I REALLY love the Partners statue. It's long been rumored that BVS will feature a new Partners statue with a young Walt and Oswald. I'd love to have that officially confirmed.

Some of the videos did something for me. You're right. The Mine Train stuff looked cool, but could have been cooler. The DVC bit was so tired. Maybe it's because I sat through an online presentation already, but aside from Rhode, that was a waste. The Shanghai castle stuff was cool. But muted by the fact I will never see it in person.

Basically, I expect better of Disney. Especially at their big convention. I guess declining by degrees doesn't just apply to the parks! ;)

If there's a D23 in 2013 they better start leaking hints of big announcements to get people excited again.

But I really dig the Shanghai castle bit and the SDMT video. The swinging cars look sick. And you have to admit, it's very, very telling that no one from TDO even shows up for the event.

Awesome statute!!!! Wonder if that will be a DCA exclusive or find its way to DHS in the future...

It would be a great replacement for the BAH. An absolute must for DCA though. Imagine how pleased the family must be with that tribute. Very well done.

It may come as a surprise (it did to me), but the family originally opposed Partners, as Walt didn't want tributes to himself in the parks. However, once they saw a model of the statue, they gave it resounding approval.

Given that this is Partners-level awesome, I would agree with you that the family probably likes it.

Just thought I would share that story for any fellow Partners-fans.
