Not the kind of social media you consume. To the extent that I can, I steer clear of trolls and other agitators. I consider the dross they peddle unworthy of attention, and when it does cross my path (generally in this forum, alas), I take the few simple steps needed to fact-check. It’s telling and ironic that you were the one lecturing me earlier about the unreliability of mainstream news!
It’s to the point you can quickly detect the fake news designed to create faux outrage just by the source or the tone.

When something sounds silly, it’s often false, exaggerated, taken out of context.

Anything negative against Rachel is now suspect, and I would fact check before believing it.

Others are sheep, just spoon fed lies and giddily spreading them, being told what to think and mindlessly complying.

Most of social media is not news. It is inhabited by a lot of news folks, especially on Twitter. But Tik Tok and Instagram and whatever else? That's not a news outlet, with real editors and institutional standards and an AP Style Book and such.

Equating funny videos of narcissistic actresses and Karens freaking out at customer service clerks with hard news is odd.

It's just social media. And it's Miss Rachel Zegler on social media, which so far always means a good time and fun laughs!

Snow White! :hilarious:

I think that’s letting some of them off too easily. A good number are smart enough to know better but choose to perpetuate falsehoods and fuel discord for reasons that are entirely beyond me. It’s very unfortunate, all the more so on a website devoted to Disney.

Because many of us have higher standards for Disney. Or at least, what Disney used to be.

Can you imagine Helen Reddy going on Johnny Carson in 1977 to publicize Pete's Dragon and she turns to Johnny and says "You know, John, I hope all the people who voted for Gerald Ford never know peace in their lives." ??? o_O

Please Tell Me You Voted For Carter.jpg

I can't. Helen Reddy was a great talent (I think she's still with us, right?), and she was very likely a liberal woman (hear me roar, and all that). But she wouldn't have said that type of thing on TV in '77 in the lead up to her Disney movie premiere. And if she did and insulted half the country, Disney would can her ASAP. But Ms. Reddy never would dare do that, because she was a professional.

Snow White may be a great movie in '25. Who knows at this point? But Rachel Zegler has made it all about her and her insufferably elitist smugness, and she keeps putting her foot in her mouth. Over and over again. And her PR tour on late night talk shows doesn't even start until February! :banghead:

I doubt Disney will ever hire her again. But Disney also really needs to rethink and rework their legal agreements with their talent on what they say online, and how they say it. Because so far this has been a disaster for Snow White.

If only you had higher standards for your own online conduct.

I try to be polite and kind, but also truthful. I'm not going to pretend or lie about my personal opinions. You don't do that, do you? I don't get the feeling you do.

But then, I'm here for free. Disney doesn't pay me anything. I'm a comfortably retired man, so I can say and do whatever I want. Rachel Zegler was paid several million dollars for her work on Snow White. You'd think that large salary would include instructions and guidelines from Disney on how to speak to the press and how to conduct oneself on social media.

Rachel Zegler has taught a masterclass the past two years on how to torpedo your own tentpole movie. Incredible! 🧐

I don't know that I was "fooled" into anything. I saw another video of Miss Zegler being, well, Miss Zegler. And it made me chuckle.

Her own words in videos she purposely puts out on the Internet for the world to view speak for themselves. But that's what social media does, and has always done. It's not new.

But don't worry gang, Miss Zegler's latest is old news as of Thursday afternoon. Now the world has moved on to that ridiculously cringey and weird Jaguar commercial as they try to Bud Light themselves into non-existence. I owned a Jaguar once in the late 80's, a slightly used tan XJ6 sedan with gorgeous burgundy leather interior. The late 80's was also during my famous Rugby Shirt phase when I was heading into middle age and trying to look sporty. That phase actually kind of worked for me ,and although British cars have awful reputations for reliability that Jaguar served me rather well for a few years. Even when I wasn't wearing a rugby shirt.

That said, I have no earthly idea what the brain trust at Jaguar is thinking with their new campaign of sad looking and unattractive people in weird outfits that make them look even sadder. Other than putting themselves out of business in the USA rather quickly.

You got duped into thinking it was some new video, which in reality was a snippet from an almost 2 year old video. As I mentioned in my original response to your post, it was a snippet to a larger post, one taken out of context.

You got scammed because you were looking for a reason to find something to post to make fun of her.

To remind everyone how duped you got, here is the quote right from the top of your post -

Here's a fun snippet of Rachel's apology video from this week. It's all over Twitter, er... X.

You bought into the rage bait and posted it here for everyone to mock at her, and low and behold its not even about what you think it is. It was comments about her BAFTA appearance 2 years ago. Nothing to do with Snow White, nothing to do with Disney, nothing to do with any posts about the election. You got duped. Admit it and move on.

Yet all you’ve done the last several posts is deflect and prevaricate. It would have been so easy to acknowledge that you were taken in by a video masquerading as something it wasn’t. We all make mistakes; it’s how we respond when we learn the truth that matters. And your response has been anything but truthful.

No one is raging at anything. It's funny. It's Rachel Zegler being Rachel Zegler, as only she can. She's good at it, you have to give her that. Winged Victory at the Louvre!

It was rather hilarious. It was worth a 10 second chuckle and eye roll, nothing more.

And Twitter has already moved on to the new Jaguar ad. Tomorrow by 3pm it will be something else. 🤣

Go back and read the posts from yesterday. I was trying to be helpful to others here by linking to the 30 second video I saw on my phone while eating lunch earlier. It's a funny video, just Rachel being Rachel.

And your response has been anything but truthful.

It's late. I've had my nightcap. I'm happy as a clam and things in life are going swimmingly right now, especially since the first Tuesday in November. Plus I just got back from a lovely cruise. There's nothing to lie about, nothing to obscure, plenty to have fun with. Lots of laughs so far, and we still have Thanksgiving to look forward to!

But Rachel Zegler is proving, over and over again, that she's the gift that keeps on giving. What a sweetie she is! 😍

As expected you can't admit you got duped into believing something was new when it wasn't, even posting the same clip that falsely labels it as an "apology" video on this very page even after the original was posted just a couple pages ago.

I'm sorry after all these years I had respected you, even if I didn't agree with you. You just lost all my respect because you can't be truthful.

The trailer in better quality:

First thoughts:

  • The scenes with real people look good. But then the CGI dwarves show up and it looks... off.
  • I'm not sure of the plot. It seems they changed it too much from the source material, but maybe they're just trying too hard to make the trailer look new and interesting.
  • Yeah, that song is a throwaway. Like some bad auto-tuned generic Princess Ballad circa 2012. Not good.

Overall? I'm not sure this is going to make them any money. Especially with a $275 Million production budget. Eek! o_O

Happens all the time. She said what she had to say, like so many before her. Why act like it’s something new, or that it’s clever to know she probably didn’t mean most of it?

First off, I wasn’t trying to be clever, and am fully aware it happens all the time. I’m 62, and have seen tons of same over the years on TV and in newspapers, and now on social media, whether it be posts, video, etc. I was trying to be a bit generous/diplomatic. Give her a slight benefit of a doubt.
My point was simply, why even bother if you know (and everyone else knows) you’re being disingenuous…?
I’m sure somebody, strongly, suggested to her that she might want to apologize and back off a bit.
If it were me, at my age, I woulda’ told ‘em to stuff it. I said what I meant, and I stand by it.
There’s nobody out there whose opinion of her changed one bit from her “apology”. Nobody’s buying it.
She’s already put it out there how she really feels. She just apologized for saying so in such a public manner.
Again, why even bother…?

Aw, crap. I just Googled. Helen Reddy passed away four years ago. :(

She was great overall, and that song she sang on the lighthouse in Pete's Dragon was wonderful!
That is such a lovely song and performed beautifully. It seems to be mostly forgotten and completely underused by modern day Disney and I don't understand why.

I will leave the haters to their twitterverse…. So much more love and positivity on Bluesky
