It might be more prominent in your mind if your heterosexuality was a reason you weren’t allowed to marry or raise children.

Yeah that’s what I was implying. But moreso just by sheer virtue of being the minority or not being the default and the effects of that. Are there many states left where gay people cant marry or raise children? I live in California. We have bearded guys in dresses working at Disneyland so it's hard for me to relate with the struggle.

There has been progress. But women, gay people and other minorities should not become complacent. There are those who want things to “go back” to the way they were.

I get that but at what point does the continual march forward (even after all basic rights have been achieved) back fire? I think things like all the pronoun stuff, bearded dudes in dresses working at Disneyland, Drag story time or Kamala making a talking point of inmates in prison having access to sex change operations being lumped in with Gay rights was not good for the cause and also very divisive. Id like to imagine gay people are not a monolith and many probably agree with me on this. Where are my Conservative Gays at? Lol

There’s a reason the troops have dissipated. Disney realized they took it too far with Strange World and Lightyear as the majority were not on board and the movies bombed. As Disney started to focus on entertainment/ stories that appeal to the average American family and stay away from themes cooked up by young childless Progressives from Silverlake, CA their fortunes have turned around and as you say the troops have begun to dissipate. You still have people of course that have written off Disney and are not back on board and may never be. But that’s a much smaller group.

I think this is reading more into what Iger said than what he actually said, “Creators lost sight of what their No. 1 objective needed to be, We have to entertain first. It’s not about messages.”

I think his statement was much more about increasing quality than about decreasing messaging.

I think Agatha was a good example of this, they didn’t shy away from gay characters but it felt noticeable that the story was the #1 priority and then they added inclusion where it fit within that story.

It may seem like a small difference but the story has to come first or messaging will always feel forced and likely fail. At least that’s how I interpreted his statement.

To bring the discussion back to Snow White I think this is why it was delayed for a year after Iger came back, purely speculation but the impression from the early interviews to the impression from the first trailer seems like a complete redo, like they’ve gone from making a female empowerment movie to making a movie Disney fans will actually like… as Iger said make entertaining the fans the priority rather than the messaging.

I suspect we’ll still see a lot of female empowerment messaging, but now it’s a secondary factor rather than the main factor.

I'm not going to check back in on this absurd crapshow of a thread. I am genuinely curious as to why the mods are allowing it to continue. But I've had enough.

I’ve been reading, but not participating in recent days.
Seems what happened on Nov. 5th got everyone all riled up again, even way more than they already were.
Maybe they’re just letting members vent for a while, to get it out of their systems, somewhat…? 🤔🤷‍♂️

That would be sad. We need more female empowerment messaging than ever these days.

The truth Is that female empowerment does not take away from male empowerment. They can exist in a story in equal measure. Disney found that balance in The Little Mermaid. Prince Eric had his own life and goals apart from Ariel’s, and she accompanied him in the end on a journey to achieve them.

Also, there is a beautiful depiction of a strong, protective father.

Miss Zegler feels he may be cut entirely from the movie, and it will just be a female-led movie focusing on Snow White and the Evil Queen and her "inner journey". Men need no longer apply for love stories. That's Hollywood, baby! 🤔

Here's Miss Zegler, the gift that keeps on giving, explaining how easy it would be to cut the Prince out of her movie.

The cutting Zegler from the movie is fairly far-fetched. That would mean one big rewrite and reshoot. Cost overruns! Nah, Disney will need to just take it on the chin and absorb a loss then move on.

There are?

Why are we even talking about this.

People’s sexual orientation is their own business and people should be able to live their lives however they see fit.

This is the almost universal consensus of the entire country accept for some radical fringe groups.

There’s no reason to cut Zegler. I’ve seen her in two movies and she’s very talented.

Younger people tend to like her quite a bit and they’re the ones taking their kids. The people who don’t like her first complained about her color, then her comments about the film, then her political comments. They weren’t going to see the film anyway so there's no loss there.

It’ll all come down to whether Disney managed to make a good movie.

Strange, right? We all have seen moderators cancel threads for WAY, FAR less than this stuff here.

It seems their tolerences for posted opinion is wildly unpredictable and inconsistant??

Almost all of the moderation here is undertaken by one person, @The Mom, who isn’t paid for her work and has a life beyond these boards. I just checked her activity and see she hasn’t posted anything for days. So rather than assume she’s taking sides (she’s deleted plenty of my posts over the years for what that’s worth) or neglecting her “duties”, perhaps we should all be hoping she’s OK and working on the big collective apology we owe her for the huge mess we’ve created.

My read on this is that the site has taken the stance that people need to get things out of their systems. I suspect there will be a "we are now back to the usual rules" announcement any day now.

Right now we seem to be the beneficiaries of some type of amnesty program.

I’m very sceptical of that. Such amnesties have never been a thing in the past. I suppose we’ll all find out soon enough.

I don't care about her skin color or her comments about the original film. I had sympathy for her until she revealed herself to be an antisemite just because it's trendy nowadays (though she does it in a passive aggressive way and only to the "bad jews").
