I perplexed by the fact you believe you can “explain reality.” How do you know more than other posters?

This is why I posted a link to the box office thread. Snow White doesn’t have any box office yet. Discussing other films and why they did well or not just leads to this same tired disagreement.

I think it should be pointed out that not everyone comes from the same area or has the same background. So just because you have a figure of speech you use, doesn't mean everyone understands it or understands your use of it.

We're all different people from potentially all parts of the world that all have different backgrounds.

Well if it’s self defeating to use the very word that describes it then maybe that is something you should consider when discussing the topic. Just food for thought.

I don’t think there is a succinct way of putting it. If I understand you correctly, what you’re calling a “theme” is my very identity—the person I am, the person I love, etc. It’s no more a theme than your identity as a straight heterosexual man is.

Makes sense. Probably why choosing that word didn’t feel natural to me but there has to be a way to state it succinctly that’s better than “theme.” Is sexual preference an identity though? I mean it’s part of my identity. If you asked me to explain my identity I don’t think heterosexual would be in the Top 3 things to come to mind or even Top 5. I would probably think I’m a Man, Father and Husband first.

It’s not a preference and it doesn’t just have to do with who you sleep with. I was gay when I was a little boy, long before I had any notion of sex. It’s shaped who I am throughout my life, just as your straightness has shaped who you are throughout yours. It’s an intrinsic part of who I am, indivisible from the rest of my identity.

Hasn’t sexual preference been the accepted terminology for a while now or did that change recently? Anyway i guess it makes sense that a gay persons sexual presence is a much bigger part of their identity than a heterosexual person.

No, it’s been outmoded for at least two decades, as it implies that one’s sexuality is a choice. Orientation is the standard term.

Also, your insinuation is gross. You’ve taken what I said and made it about sex, even though I clearly stated otherwise.
