Yes, you missed. Thank you for showing my use of the word "creatures" in a positive context not demeaning in any way. Definitely did not catch anyone out! People can read. As used in the projected movie title it is demeaning. Bye.
You just made his point. The word creatures is not inherently demeaning. Game, set, match to @LittleBuford.

Thank you for making my point, so the previous argument falls flat - even flatter because those other versions were not Disney, and because 20 years is a lot shorter than 90.
The two latest snow whites were 2012. It doesn't matter if it was a different studio. I guess I missed your point. It seemed like you were justifying this version because Batman and Spiderman have had many reboots as well. There was plenty of people being critical of The Batman when it was announced. People were also skeptical of another spiderman, especially the average person. And if it wasn't for the mcu, and it was just Sony rebooting it again, I'd have put money on it failing.

The other thing to keep in mind, is comic book characters, especially 2 of the most popular and famous of all time, have many stories to pull from. Snow white, not so much. So they can try and spin the story, but you'll always have the comparison to the original. So no matter what, this will be polarizing. "It's too far off the original!" "All they did was rehash the original!" Just like any of the live action remakes, it really is a lose lose situation.

Let's about the Dwarfs and Snow White for a moment. There's no way in hell The Forest Animals will be as expressive and lifelike in live-action compared to the original movie. Expect them to be demoted to walking props compared to the original where they played a major role in the story.

R.I.P to the "Whistle While You Work" and "Silly Song" musical numbers. The "Happy Working Song" from Enchantment is able to make this actually work since it's parodying Disney's older animated films done tastefully.

I find this is be a very interesting aspect of how these things have..."evolved", actually.

The earlier adaptions actually adapted things. Animal sidekicks had their parts cut out or greatly reduced because they didn't work very well in live action. The mice don't sing or do any sewing in Cinderella, for example. Timothy was removed from Dumbo.

But now they seem to have completely given up on adapting to the medium. Sebastian and Flounder, for example, who could have been adapted into something not ugly as sin but they didn't.

Without context, I wouldn't be shocked if they just obliviously matched creepy looking, realistic animals with the exact same role as the original film.

Now, WITH context, I expect the animals to be gone because "princess has woodland friends" is one of those tropes that people like to keep mocking. Maybe there'll be a snarky remark about the concept.

How were they not adapted in accordance with the medium? They both look very different from their cartoon counterparts.

Different meaning....ugly as sin, just as the person you quoted said. The one person that I knew who saw that movie said that one of the biggest negatives was how ugly the CGI was, especially for Sebastian and Flounder.

This movie may have the animals but in a diminished role or the same role as before but will look a little uglier.

But if they are ugly, it isn’t because they were made to look their original versions. Quite the opposite—they were adapted for the new medium, even if the results are of questionable success. (I personally find Flounder cute, though not Sebastian.)

That is true. I don't think the transition was successful as the majority of the comments I see about the CGI is how awful those two characters look.

It's similar to Lion King and how bad those characters look. I don't think they would've looked better if they looked like the cartoon.

My point is that, in live action, it might've been better to go with something OTHER than a talking crab that's gotten tons of comments about it being creepy.

Like make him a merman or something.
Fair enough, though I can only imagine the outrage that would have ensued: “And now they’re cancelling crabs!”

People wouldn't like the change and I wouldn't blame them. But trying to translate the animated films directly to live action without taking what actually works in the new medium into account is also a terrible idea. And the crummy no-win position that leaves the filmmakers stuck in is part of the reason why I don't like these stupid remakes.

No, it isn’t:

I’m not trying to catch anyone out, merely suggesting that people are letting their general dislike of the project lead them into kneejerk condemnations of things that they would otherwise find unobjectionable.
Hey, I have no problem with Snow White and the Seven Magically, Ethnically, Culturally, and Sexually Diverse Lifeforms.

Can't wait for them to update 7DMT with appropriate IP.

As you well know, they’re not going to. No-one who dislikes the idea of the remake need watch it or let it bother them. Nothing is going to happen to the original classic, nor to any of the IP that goes with it.
The record supports that. Many variations, iterations and interpretations of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs have been made and the original continues to shine unblemished. Your conclusion is solid.

I think the biggest thing working against this live-action remake is that Snow White and the Huntsman and Mirror Mirror beat Disney to the punch about 10 years ago. Since the Disney remake won't be a faithful retelling, I'm not sure what it would offer that either Snow White and the Huntsman or Mirror Mirror didn't.
