Lines for pools?

Never been on a DCL cruise before. The Unofficial Guide makes it sound like there are sometimes lines for some of the pools - is this correct? They do look awfully small for so many passengers. They must at least get pretty crowded sometimes.

The pools do get very crowded, especially the family pools during the day. All pools will be busy busy on at-sea days. If a pool vacation is what you're after, a cruise ship isn't the best place to find that. Maybe schedule a resort/beach excursion in the ports. There's tons to do on the ship, tho. You might even forget all about pools. We almost never bother with them. If we're going to do pool time it's usually when the majority of guests are off doing other things like dinners, shows, ports, etc. The lines you read about might've been in reference to the slides. During busy pool times the slide lines can get long. Again, we ride at night or when the lines are short. We rode during a rainy day once and simply walked on. It was great!

Lines for the AquaDuck and AquaDunk are longest during the afternoon on sea days, as Kelly mentioned. There are quiet times though! Early in the morning and in the evenings are great. They're small because they have to be, but they're manageable. :)

The reference in the book was to just after initially boarding the ships - maybe a lot of people head to the pool right away.

Sooner or later all children and adults will need to wear Magic Bands and schedule their time in the pools onboard 60 days in advance in 20 minute increments, but no more than 3 twenty minute periods a day. Once you've used your three alotted time slots you can schedule more if additional slots are available, but only one at a time. This does not however, include the AquaDuck and AquaDunk, which must be scheduled separately.

A lot ? Try what seems like 80% of all people.

I would not go in the pool during boarding (unless I was in one of the first groups, and then only until it started to get crowded). The pools become crowded, to what honestly is a dangerous level. You are packed in there so tight, and the water gets so dirty, that you cannot even see the bottom. It really is a mess. Avoid the pools at boarding.
