Lin-Manuel Miranda Pitches Encanto Attraction to Chapek?

Would it go better as an anchor for a potential South America land in AK? Granted 1 dark ride is cheaper than an entire land.
Colombia, Mexico, and Brazil are three of the MOST biodiverse countries in the entire world. Brazil is the most, with Mexico and Colombia rotating throughout the top five slots with Indonesia and China. It's honestly a perfect fit.

Certainly within the realm of possibility, but I think they'll be putting Encanto on Broadway before they crank out an Encanto dark ride.
Frozen closed at a serious financial loss - given how Broadway is struggling mid-pandemic, how expensive an Encanto Musical would be to produce, and the fact that Frozen on Broadway was the biggest sure-thing they'd ever seen and it flopped (sadly), I doubt we see Disney immediately rush to bring Encanto to New York.

For all its success and pedigree, Encanto is not nearly the runaway hit Frozen was, and Frozen really struggled to put butts in seats on Broadway.

I could see Disney developing a production for licensing and seeing how that does before seriously considering bringing Encanto to Broadway. And if they do it'll be several years out when the market can bear it. But Disney Theatrical has learned very much the hard way that not every property they're interested in will make them money, and I think they're gonna go back to developing more for smaller stages before taking another big swing on Broadway.

Disney isn't interested in taking risks here - if it's opening on Broadway it's because they expect it to be an absolute monster hit. That Frozen didn't pull it off shook them and has them recalibrating.

Both Little Mermaid and Tarzan also did not do well on Broadway, but Newsies did. Movie success does not guarantee Broadway success.

Frozen flopped IMO because it was so phoned in. It was Disney's thinking their audience would eat up anything with Elsa in it.

Yes, they are more cautious now. That’s why they had a tryout for Hercules in 2019 that went over well and are now moving forward with a full Broadway show.

Broadway as a whole is really a tight margin business, and it really is a niche product because seeing a Broadway show can be expensive, so I'm not super surprised Frozen wasn't a surefire hit. As for Encanto, it was released 4 months ago. It's way too early to say it's a sure thing for it to get a Broadway show and / or a ride at the Parks yet. I have no doubt they'll add a few of the songs to the rotation and probably a sing-along somewhere. As for a ride maybe they can clone Mystic Manor

They could just add a segment in Disney Enchantment and it'll still work...considering how disjointed that show already is..

I guess Harmonius could also work lol..

sigh

Did Frozen on Broadway really flop? I've seen it twice and thought it was fantastic. Much better than Aladdin.

Also as far as where it could fit:
MK: Adventureland expansion
EPCOT: If they build a Columbia country
DHS: This one feels like more of a stretch, don't think the IP is large enough to have an Encanto-land, also don't think there is any existing land where you could plop it.
AK: No fit at all, apart from Antonio's minor story line, the move has nothing to do with animals, nature, or conservation.

the DCA Aladdin show was better than the Broadway show or the tour. :/ Frozen on Broadway was closed prematurely in the first weeks of the pandemic. They didn't even try to save it or come back the way other shows were fighting for their cast members. They had just had some really amazing cast changes. It was doing quite well, and they could have stuck it out and fought for it, but they didn't even try.

Ouch, well it at least still has a traveling tour still going. I saw Frozen last month locally. I'm honestly very surprised it didn't do well, but I can see how it had very high expenses.

Little Mermaid was ahead of its time in many ways. Betsy Morgan should have been principle Ariel. That show did a LOT of really remarkable things with costumes, casting choices, and the director made it a point (before it was trendy to do so) to cast the show the way the world looked, to reflect the way that the pool of people who auditioned looked, made sure to bring in appropriate people for hair, etc. Tarzan was too big of a gamble (but it did well abroad).

I thought the movie Newsies was way better than the Broadway show ever could be. The Broadway show was too afraid to isolate the oppression rich people.

As far as animated movies to Broadway go, I thought Anastasia did it best because they made enough changes for it to become its own thing.

Hunchback deserved Broadway. It came close. A shame it never did.

Hunchback is so under appreciated.

At least we got the 2-CD special edition soundtrack last year!

Love Hunchback severely underrated film and I'm bummed the staged version never made it to Broadway. As for Disney ending Lion King, anything is possible, but seeing how that show along with Wicked and Phantom of the Opera are what people think of when you hear Broadway I don't think they're closing that anytime soon. Disney likes prestige almost as much as money.

I think the DCA theater is a good fit for Encanto.

They announced Frozen isn’t coming back so they need something, I thought maybe they’d bring Aladdin back since it was so loved but Encanto would work too.
