this section of the park has been tired and bland for so long, I am glad they are breathing life into the area. The fact that the next E-Ride will also be in this area will really help to draw people away from the nightmarishly-crowded Sunset Boulevard.

so there's no word that the set the show takes place on will be any more "American" big city New York look than the foriegn look of the Paris show?

Just a quick clarification....Catastrophe Canyon is still there. In fact, it was just painted during a rehab and looks good. The stunt show is actually right next to it now. It sits on the land that was once Residential Street (the road with houses from Empty Nest and Golden Girls, etc.)

The set itself looks nearly identical, themeing and all, to the one in Paris (mediterranean village).

The construction seems to be going at a rapid pace...I don't know how much more they have to finish before some type of training can start (mkt said above that the cars are coming in)...but I don't see any reason this couldn't open earlier then its projected "early Spring 2005" date. Perhaps even later this year before the holiday rush???

I think that the cars are being done first since they're all being imported, and the process to certify an non-compliant (ie- not designed for the US market) takes a MINIMUM of 3 months (i should know... lol. Dad imported several Porsches and Mercedes products in his day. Hell.. the BMW E34 M5 he imported cost over $10k to have in compliance with federal DOT and EPA regulations, and took close to a year from receiving it at the port to having it on the road, legally registered in FL)...

but if they're being imported for "off-road use" then they're in the clear.

The process that they're taking with the cars looks very much like when a rally car is built... they start with a bone stock car, take out all the nonsense (ie, EVERYTHING), redo the electrical system with stronger cable and connections, install racing seats/5 point safety restraints, add a full roll cage, plexiglass windows, gauges for every system in the car (beyond just oil, fuel, speed, and tach), cover the sheet metal with carbon fiber, replace as much of the sheel as possible, reinforce the frame, stronger shocks/suspensions, and EXTREMELY strong wheels...

and that's just the minimum that's required...

The reason for the late openeing is because of training. Everyone will need to be trained to but they can't really start until the theatre is built.

Now, I checked out the training time for the Blue Man's Tubes. (different stuff but still takes a lot of training). It is a 6 month boot camp. I would estimate this:

1 month if the performers from Paris are brought in.
3 if new performers who have experience are hired.
6 months for new applicants.

I hope to see this show soon. Looks really cool. I only wished it opened this June.

Um, how do they afford wrecking all those cars??

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but you know how much a fender bender costs. I was just wondering.

the first group of drivers would more than likely be experienced stunt drivers outsourced through a stunt agency... I doubt the training would take more than a month though...

i still find it funny they're using the Opels from paris for this show

you obviously have no clue how deep Disney's pockets are, and how cheap they buy the cars for. The Opel Corsa is the cheapest GM product on any market, and shares many components with US market Opels, so parts wouldn't be *TOO* hard to find.

However, by the time the cars are completed, they're not going to be a regular road car... they'll be able to withstand the abuse that is placed on them.
