Makes sense. HS's around us start looking at transcripts in 7th grade for scholarships and such so we kinda of made that the end line. It also factors in that they both travel for sports (one in winter for wrestling and one in spring/summer for baseball) so they end up missing the selected friday/mondays througout the year, so we don't really want to pull them out of school for longer periods if we can avoid it. Our districs have become sticklers for non-medical absences. While surely hot, we have really come to appreciate the late august times for visiting parks. Most of southern schools are already back in session, and many in north/west have already taken their vacations.
As a Canadian, it’s interesting to read about what I assume is an American experience re: school considerations.

My oldest will be in high school at the estimated time of our next WDW vacation, and all I did was check the school calendar to ensure we can avoid exam weeks.

We would still otherwise pull them out for two full weeks without concern about college/university prospects (at least in the first year or two of high school).

I will be honest I don't think we would even come close to considering pulling the kids out of HS for even a week, let alone 2 full weeks. Part of that is going to be bc of sports teams and other commitments that we don't want them to miss. But we wouldn't want to put them in the position of being behind on assignments, class participation, ect., either. Now both our boys are very focused on some very competitive private/prep high schools and colleges there after so this could completely be a subjective mindset as opposed to American/Canadian school consideration.

Yea you shouldn’t take kids out of school especially in high school when they rank all the students against each other, and that number is important when applying to college.

Plus it also creates a poor precedent for kids to take them out of school for vacation when it could be scheduled without missing school days even if it is more expensive. If they miss school for vacation they might think it’s acceptable to miss it for other reasons and then use the excuse of “well I missed it for Disney why can’t I miss it for XYZ”

Add on to that the real reason schools frown on kids being gone on family vacations: funding. The funding schools get from the government is directly tied to student attendance.

I was a school secretary. :)

PPs gave some reasons why school attendance is important. Those are some of the reasons funding is related to attendance.

Funding issues motivates districts to encourage attendance.

I've done WDW for every major holiday, except Jersey week, this year and it has been dead. Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and Thanksgiving have all been abnormally bellow normal.

For Thanksgiving 2024, I had no problem booking a last minute Thanksgiving trip with an AP discount rate, I had no problem booking ADRs for basically any TS restaurant, and I had no need to use MPLL, SPLL, LLP because the wait times were unremarkable.

Josh should be wetting his two sizes to small skinny jeans on this one.

Man you go to WDW a lot for someone who never says a nice thing about the parks.

I went 11/1-11/5 and it was packed.

Because there are still enjoyable things that I get from the experience, because for the most part, modern day Disney hasn't ruined it yet. You can probably ask someone like @marni1971, who has made some very nuanced commentary about the parks, why he returns and beautifully documents everything new and old, to also get an answer to that question as well.

Jersey week is probably the busiest time of year, when my people come and over run the World of Disney.

But if you're in WDW Thanksgiving weekend and the wait times are unremarkable, TS ADRS are a plentiful, and discounted resort availability is abundant, then there is a problem.

I know wait times aren't the best thing to base crowds on... but thrill data tracks the monthly wait time averages, and it is on a downward trend. https://www.thrill-data.com/waits/park/wdw/magic-kingdom/

The cupcake brigade will tell you that none of this matters because OI for P&E is still growing and everything is perfect.

The current path is not sustainable. You cannot make more money with fewer guests. Price Increases and further monetization of guests simply masks the symptoms (and is the primary reason why fewer guests are visiting). Further, with basically nothing new coming until the end of the decade, it's going to get worse before it gets better.

If all those families who considered pulling their kids out of school now do not because there is LLPP, and go to WDW when school is out, those LLPPs are going to “sell out” really quick.

Unless Disney simply increases the arbitrary number of LLPP for sale “in response to guest demand”.

I will say, the 4th this year was busier than 2023. But still very much below average. 2023 was legit the most empty I've seen the park in 30 years. It was deader than Cedar Point on a Wednesday in mid-May. Absolutely insane.
