I really don’t. Until I got old enough to not care, I used to hide the fact that we went to Disney for our family vacations. People thought it was odd, especially when the kids were older.

There are a lot of people who just don’t care about Disney and aren’t impressed at all.

Going to Disney is just one of the reasons my family thinks I'm a bit odd. They certainly aren't jealous.

Chicago, for some reason no one understands, is hosting a Nascar race in July. Downtown. A bunch of streets are closed and they are doing construction and what not. It's pretty crazy!

I apologise if this has already been said but the one thing that will angers me most about this is the hidden/forgetful aspect relating to park hop.
We can only truly afford to maximum buy G+ for six adults x4 - one for each park. We have no intention across our 14day park ticket to keep buying Genie+ every day. We dont have the money and it is silly to do so. Before the announcement we talked about only buying Genie+ if we were staying in the park all day, so we could get the maximum out of it. The plan was to do all the parks casually first, occasionally park hopping between as an experience and then hitting the Genie+ at the end of the trip (last week in August) to make sure we get to go on all rides at least once. We crafted an itinery of sorts so we could use Tourist Caluclator for Crowds and slotted in the days.

Already we were restricted by the after hours party. Our last magic kingdom day lands on one of those after hour party days so we are expected to be out of the park by X time (7pm?) and we talked about combining Epcot on that day for evening. We can revise our view and buy Genie+ x3 (and not x4) and combine MK & Epcot and just tick off those last tough rides like Ratt, Test Track etc

Now this system forces us to pay $27 to get a multi ticket for Genie+ (especially when G+ recently has been 21$ etc). We miss out on the Epcot cheaper price, which seems a positive incentive. God this is even confusing to write. I guess what I am writing is that it was $21 dollars earlier this week to do MK and park hop for a few rides and fireworks at Epcot on our last day. Now I cant benefit from the Epcot low price but do the same park hop but have to pay for the multi ticket!

It just gets my goat that we are having our hours cut short at MK after paying for a ticket, pushed to park hop (when we could rather not) and then pushed to pay a bigger price.

It was interesting talking to my dad who remembers the days of FP and who is going with us about this. He was getting so confused by the end and said if it was just mum and him going rather than my parnter and her parents (new to orlando) I wouldnt bother with WDW!

I would think ticket holders trend more towards deciding ahead of time to hop, but AP holders - since they can always hop - would be more inclined to decide in the moment where they want to go. I definitely think AP holders made spur of the moment choices.

The only thing is though, if a group is thinking about hopping, it pays to start stacking G+ well before arriving at the 2nd park. Otherwise they are missing out on prime options. If they wait until they are on the way to the 2nd park - say 5pm or later- not much is left to G+. If you start stacking passes at 2pm, then you can get some decent G+ for MK.

If one wants to make the most of G+, the only worthwhile hop is to go to MK in the PM though, because MK has the most rides, and is open the latest. by 2pm, there isn't much left in AK, HS or Epcot. All the good G+ rides are long gone.

I would agree with the planned hopping.

However if someone decides to hop without having planned to do so, the chances are they would be looking to pick up easy LLs to avoid 10-15 minute waits, not be looking for the headliners.

For example my DS would hop to DHS in the afternoon. I bought him an ILL for Rise one day, not each time. And he was quite happy to pick up Star Tours, Muppets and wait in line for the Millenium Falcon as a single rider.

but you still had to decide if you were park hopping, still had to do it early, etc etc etc

I'm not saying this is better... but to hear people upset about choices they have to make... choices that Disney locked in ages ago and now just parade around under different guises...

You didn’t have to decide if you were park hopping. You could only make your initial FPs at one park. And no reason to be a slave to the decision either, you could change your mind at the bus stop if you wanted.

Sure, if you planned to hop you could use that to your advantage, book fewer than 3 FPs at your first park or book them at your second park. But there was no need to decide ahead of time.

100 times here too.

I would tell people we were going to Florida, and that was fine. If they asked where we were staying you could see the surprise in their face even before they said anything. Most people I know who have been in the last few years (so both before and after Covid) spend 3-4 days at Disney parks out of 2 weeks. We are very much the outliers.

Actually I guess that does make me “fringe”.

I feel your pain in general, having done all that planning.

But I just wanted to highlight that paragraph. The only way you could realistically get Rat and Test Track on G+ Is by booking one of them first thing, followed by the other. Times for TT in particular moves very quickly, and chancing it to get both by booking in the afternoon risks both being sold out.

I would stick with your plan of once per park if you can. Or forgo it for AK (or Epcot).

I wouldn’t bet on it being $27. It’ll eventually go higher and then higher again…
