Lightning Lane at Walt Disney World

May I ask why not? Did you not know you were able to, or did you just not think about it?

We would have 3 in the first 3 hours, try to hit #2 at the end of the 2nd hour and #3 right after, then after tapping into 3, start finding new ones. Getting 7-10 in a day wasn't uncommon. I did not realize that was not the norm.
That didn’t work that well. People did it for sure…but many didn’t want to fight it. It also was highly based on the crowd Calendar when you were there.
Nonetheless, many did make use of day-of FastPasses—the available options would change with every refresh, and newly dropped inventory for popular rides would run out in seconds. Yet somehow the app managed to reserve your selected time so that you didn’t end up with something different from what you clicked on.
You were tied to refresh…yeah…not really as “awesome” as it seemed.

Disney parks are not for ride commandos anyway. I’m a “purist”…but I’ll stand on that hill.

It’s atmosphere you never got anywhere close to anywhere else until recently.

Rides are a component at Disney parks when they’re 75% at cedar point.

It was awesome for me. I’m speaking for myself, not others.

A minute or so of refreshing while waiting in line for something else was not a big deal from my perspective, particularly given the payoff. I actually found the process exciting and fun. Again, I don’t expect others to agree; I’m just sharing my own experience.

No I gotcha…if it worked for you, that’s great.

We can’t defend this money grab Genie+ system to the free FP+ system because some folks tried to somehow get money when they ran out of FP+ return times.

Genie+ is something you pay for and there is a genuine expectation there.

I know, I know, Genie+ is perfect, there are plenty enough attractions in the parks, the problem is, some folks who buy Genie+ “are using it wrong” and that’s the problem. Got it.

We’ve been - collectively (though many don’t realize it 🤪) - trying to figure out what exactly is happening?
The Covid travel “delay” season officially ended on 4/14/23…it seems. It’s rare a hard date hits in travel…but it seems clear that was the end of the backlog.

But there’s more. Disney TAs were warning this 6 months ago.
Airlines have been relatively cheap…as has rental cars.
Lots of rooms available. Lots
Hence discounts at higher frequency/percentage/availability than we have scene in a LONG time
Dvc sales are really, really low…like yikes level…is the rumor?
And then…what is the real problem: the economy is not in position to sustain higher rate of middle class travels now. All the indicators are off…
Guess what Disney feeds on?

So it’s gonna be an interesting year.

The next sign will be DVC annual passes for a huge discount in like august…watch it play.

Fascinating nonetheless. Good time to go.

And then that doesn’t even cover how bad of a spot they are in with Comcast
You're funny when you get wound up.

I think it's a lot simpler.

People are over Disney.

Pick your reason: (Cost, Value, Politics, Economy, etc.)

Disney OD'd on their own pixie dust and overplayed their hand, got arrogant, decided to target a customer demographic that doesn't exist and at the same time p!ss off their bread and butter customer. Couple that with an entire building in Burbank filled with sniveling yes men with MBAs who know nothing about providing a quality product that customers will value, and you have a bright shining future of suck.

Unfortunately there’s a lot of truth in that

It’s been awhile since I gave my “accordion theory” at wdw…

You want it? Probably pretty accurate in this time and place

I’m definitely more “wound down” today than you, Buck 😎

They should have heeded the advice in 'Scarface' - Never get high on your own supply. They really screwed that one up...

2 hours into the day at MK and the standby line for 7DMT is.... 65 minutes. Same for PPF and Jungle. I bet the sales of Genie- are hammering their systems today! I would imagine they have the full force and fury of a... slight trickle.

I was hoping that you were gonna say you only have two things in life…and you don’t break them for nobody

And actual moving line with a posted 64 - with low genie usage…is probably close to 30 net…
Which is lower than you would have typically gotten for 30 years when the capacity was more closely correlated with the crowds

To be fair, there are some decent waits at AK and DHS. But AK is the three usual suspects - KS, FoP, and NRJ. DHS is seeing waits at or over an hour for the only 3 things worth riding (ToT, Slinky Dog, Rise), plus almost an hour for MMRR and *90* for Smuggler's Run (while Rise is only 60).

There's a lesson there, but Disney refuses to learn it.

Reading all of this is just convincing me to plan a trip for late 2024. Low crowds? Discount incentives? Sure! :D

(j/k, we have different vacations planned for next year or so, but let's see how the year pans out monetarily, maybe we can swing one more... 😄)

May is sometimes a weird month for attendance. Keep an eye on Memorial Day for a better handle of what the summer will shape up to be.
