A counter to that however would be that Fp+ and prebooking allowed people to better plan their park day and locations when and where whereas G+ spur of the moment may have you zig-zagging all over the park to do what you want when you can

Unfortunately there’s not gonna be a perfect solution and most of us will hate whatever they come up with because at the end of the day, they just need more attractions
In addition to that with pre-booking I know I'm guaranteed to ride the attractions I want before we go.
Zero chance we are spending $10k-$15k and not getting to ride some of the top attractions and we have zero interest in being up at 7am on vacation.

I'm assuming the WDW resort bookings are down. The price is high and the benefits to staying onsite are at an all time low. They need to give people meaningful perks to fill their resorts.

If they do go the that route might as well make Genie+ a set price daily. If they let people pre-book that far in advance it would be hard to have Genie+ fluctuate in price.

I think the best compromise is 10pm the night before.
I don't see the issue there.

Buy a vacation package and get G+ for a locked in price. Don't by a package and you have to deal with the fluctuating price.

The value of the bubble is greatly diminished. I'm a big skyliner fan and that's the only real perk I find that pushes me to staying on property. Early hours are great, but it's not worth double/triple/quadruple the cost of a hotel room though.

Whenever my next trip is, offsite accommodations is where I'm starting my planning unless there is a significant discount/offer for staying on property.

I’m curious to see whatever changes they make if it will become a “perk” to onsite guests

I'm making the assumption that low resort bookings was the trigger point for this and not angry people. But I guess we'll see.
All of these things they have done lately is for that reason. From APs back on sale to what they announced this week.

I still don't think they are going to go all the way back to something similar to FP+. As many insiders have said here, there isn't enough capacity for everyone to have 3 each day. My guess is if anything you will be able to book you first LL ahead of time. How far ahead is the question.

I don’t agree with that at all. It depends on your vacation plans. What if I’m there for a week and I’m on an attraction at 7pm the day before where I can’t use my phone, I’m now at a disadvantage not being able to select what I want immediately as everyone else
So time it so you’re not on an attraction at exactly 7 pm…. Or, book your first attraction at 7:15 pm.

One could use FP+ just as people today use Genie+. I never left it at my three preselections, but continued securing FastPasses throughout the day.

Though the prebooked FP all had to be at least 1 hour apart.
(except that in FP's later days it was sometimes possible to modify them.)

The original version of G+ was terrible.
Then again, FP+ was also originally only 3 per day total. The 4th was added later. The early days of FP+ were a mess. The 3 FP+ either had to be booked in advance, or booked via in-park kiosk, and the wait for the in-park kiosk was crazy.

Even for quite a while after they allowed the 4th FP+, most guests had to add it via kiosk, and the kiosk lines were crazy long.

I remember being at MK, and the afternoon kiosk line was 30minutes. So people waited 30minutes to get a 9pm FP+ for a ride. At 9pm, they would then discover the ride was walk-on, so waiting to get a FP+ actually COST them time.

A small plus of G+ is the ability to book more than one ride per hour.

and I will admit the addition of the modify time button in G+ has helped it, especially if you know how to use it 😉

Regardless I don’t know what the perfect solution is, I just know they need more attractions to reduce the stress FP or LL or whatever they want to call it brings

I would frontload my preselections, get through them as quickly as possible, and then immediately start securing day-of Fastpasses. It worked very well for me.
That’s exactly what I did and was able to plan exactly how I wanted to route through the parks that day even planning where I would be near lunchtime for a quick service spot

My biggest fear is they will make a change to what they have and make it worse. The modify button was the best addition so far. Now allow us to select times and reserve our first for each day prior to our trip (somehow). Not sure about the VQ and ILLs though. That throws a whole new wrinkle into trying to fix the the 7am day of race.

They need to fix the fact that the time you select isn’t always the one you end up with (this goes as much for when you’re initially making the selection as when you’re modifying it).
As far as I know that's only happening due so many people using Genie+ at once.
