Lightning Lane at Walt Disney World

This. The only way to make it not "interfere with the vacation" is to have an ability to book the ride prior to the vacation. That would mean at least one week if not maybe a month or more prior to the date.

I don't see how shifting the ability to book to the day before really is fundamentally different or an "improvement". Some people would prefer it, others would be more annoyed compared to 7am day of.
If it comes with a choice between 7am the day of or the day before I would choose 7am the day of because you still have VQs and ILLs that open up at 7am the day of as well unless they plan to change that too

Oh please god no. 10pm when I'm doing any of the following: want to go to sleep. Wrestling putting the kids to sleep. Waiting on line at some bar somewhere to get a drink and relax after a busy day.

I very much dislike the Project Management on the fly with G+ let alone having to think about it the night before.

Edit to add: Either make it sometime (days/weeks/months) prior to checking in or keep it the way it is.
They should make it days/weeks/months prior.

They have enough data to know the price they want to charge for Genie+ for any day in the calendar already.

AND they could sort of do it like airline seats, if you buy your Genie+ many months early to get a better price. The closer you get to the day, it goes up.

A counter to that however would be that Fp+ and prebooking allowed people to better plan their park day and locations when and where whereas G+ spur of the moment may have you zig-zagging all over the park to do what you want when you can

Unfortunately there’s not gonna be a perfect solution and most of us will hate whatever they come up with because at the end of the day, they just need more attractions
I feel like you end up zig-zagging either way because you're forced to space out your reservations. At least with Genie+, you opt into it in real time with informed context of conditions at surrounding attractions.

But also yes, just more rides please.

I'd like to prepurchase G+ as part of my package like I did last year then do whatever preplanning they offer any time prior to checking in. So the purchase and planning can happen at different times in my opinion.

The ONLY thing I don't like about this is that I'm now forced to buy G+ for every day of my trip where I probably wouldn't now except on certain park days.

Na with FP+ you got to choose your time. That is something missing from G+ I wish they’d bring back. This was huge in terms of planning ahead and your course through the parks

When you prepurchase G+ as part of your package, you are forced to buy it for every day?

I think the easiest compromise is a hybrid between Genie+ and FP+.

For those who want to pre-book then it should cost you more. The week you plan on going take the highest Genie+ price and that's what you pay daily. So if it's $35 per person that's what you pay. If you want to go back to 3 per day then that's all you get.

But that’s not all you got with FP+, just what you were able to prebook.

The wrench in this is now we have ILL which some of those attractions were a part of FP before as well as a few VQs

I know but I said make it a hybrid. Those who book early pay more for the convenience but also are limited to 3. Those who pay day of get what left but also may end up getting more then 3.

My idea is trying to find a middle ground for those who like each system.

It’ll be interesting to see what they come up with. I believe they will fix one problem and create another (or more)

Agreed. Due to lack of capacity and the fact so many guests are "spreadsheet" planners there is no system that will make everyone happy. I don't blame the guests at all. Disney did this going back to FP+ days. They are so data driven they want to know every guests plans right down to the second.

A bit of a rant. Out of all the parks I have visited, Disney is the most complex to visit. I know Disney is different then all other parks but at the end of the day it's still a theme park. I look at how simple a Universal vacation is and then look at Disney where it's required to have a spreadsheet and a PhD to plan a visit. It's one thing to book reservations for dinner but to add on ride times, what parks your visiting is way too over the top.

Sorry - to clarify - for every day you have tickets for like a hopper addon.
Yes, understood, every day you have tickets for. They should give you flexibility pick what days you want Genie+ or maybe the Genie+ price per day goes down depending on how many days you purchase like they used to do with multi day tickets.

I'd love for that with hoppers too. There are some days I would pay for hoppers and some days I wouldn't. I don't need them every day.
