Lightning Lane at Walt Disney World

I'd be curious to know from those who follow these things whether Disney's attendance really has taken a bigger dip than Universal's. Is this being discussed in another thread?
In my experiences it had. I go almost every year late September/ October. FoP was a near walkon this year. Smugglers Run walkon. Everest walkon. Universal seemed about normal, but we had Express. HHN had hour long lines on a Wednesday.

Universal is pretty much normal now. Disney is still delivering a much lesser product.

It actually does, though. On busy days certain order windows (woodys lunchbox) have the soonest availability 1+ hours in advance. If I order something for two hours from now and then cancel during my window it absolutely could have taken up the spot that someone else would have booked.
This is true. Maybe it is the same, but it still doesn't feel equivalent somehow though. 🤷‍♀️

Right, Disney offers Free Dine this time of year because it's super busy on its own.

October is popular *on property* because rates are low and Disney offers Free Dine. Also, DVC points charts are low and DVC members are points misers.
It's simple IMO. October got crowded because of Not So Scary at Disney and HHN at Uni. Disney isn't having Not So Scary this year and Boo Bash just doesn't draw in the crowds.

Thank you for your perspective. It makes sense to me that many people would keep away from Disney until things are back to normal, or something like it (I'm one them). Based on what you say, Universal's pandemic strategy, which has always been less cautious than Disney's, may be paying off, at least in the short term. I don't think the current situation is revealing of how things will be in more usual times, however.

Not So Scary didn't either. Special events make slow times less slow, but they don't turn them into busy times.

And there's a heck of a lot of blackout dates too. Also, I'd be willing to bet they don't bring back free dining.

How many October’s have you been to recently? I’ve been going nearly yearly for over 5 years, and compared to my other trips (early Dec, Feb, May) October was always the most crowded.
I have been to WDW in October once in 2016. It was as hot, and as crowded if not more than the Summer. We have never been back in October. I am almost positive that the ever increasing crowds in October is one reason why DVC changed the point charts so that for 2022 both the traditional summer vacation period 11 Jun-31 Aug is now the same point cost as 1 Oct-22 Nov.

According to Touring Plans, October 2019, the last October prior to the pandemic, had average crowd levels of 3.7 out of 10. This isn't a matter of opinion. You're statistically, mathematically incorrect.

October 2018 averaged 4.4 out of 10.

They always adjust the cost to even out the crowds. October still has the ever popular food and wine as well as the Halloween " whatever they choose to call it this year"

By your logic no one should compare genie+ to fastpass plus either…. Since they are not the same thing.

There is nothing one should carry forward from something that just happen sto be the alternative substituted in the same place for offering something very similar where you’d expect the other thing to be….

You really can't get over that Boo Bash is a different type of event from MNSSHP, can you?

Nothing in my comment here said anything about not comparing things, FYI.

Having said that, comparing Genie+ to Fastpass makes sense because they are similar programs with the primary difference being the attached fee.

People can also compare the two Halloween events as well. The issue is many people focused on it being less of a party, but ignored the fact that an AH event offers minimal wait times for attractions as a key element. They're two different events with different benefits and different price points and any comparison should acknowledge that the two events offer different things and which one is better is largely a matter of personal preference.
