Lightning Lane at Walt Disney World

A system that forced me to wait three hours to get on a headliner would be the one thing that would break WDW for me.
This is what makes this conversation complicated.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

For you, obviously it is but for someone who would be willing to wait, that means their wait might be a little shorter because you (and many others like you), using a system they couldn't use for the most in demand attractions (for whatever reason, since there are potentially a few) that put you and your family at the front of the line is now not even going to bother competing with them by standing in the longer line.

But that's what Disney has created - a situation where there will be clear winners and clear losers regardless of which way they go.

Meanwhile, I have an out-of-state friend who was at Universal yesterday and did Hagrids with a 45 minute wait and then Velosicoaster with 25 after not even getting there until almost noon... and Universal's back to work on their third park. :/

You are correct thats my understanding with Coasters as well. More tracks more or longer tracks more launches means more on the attraction at any given time. But I dont think Disney can add tracks to 7DMT or Big Thunder or really any of the existing coasters.
Well, BTM benefits from dual stations. Other coasters like Space Mountain, RnR, Everest benefit from having separate load/unload stations so that, when things are running optimally, nobody loading or unloading is waiting on the other.

Disney has decades of experience with this kind of industry leading innovative ride design to improve capacity... So what happened to all of that when they built 7DMT?

24 dollars would be the high end it said. Which is worse. The Genie + itself is not a price out. The IAS rides will be for a lot of people.

Yeah but the high end is like... TRON opening day or Rise on Christmas. I don't think the "normal" price for the majority of these rides will be anywhere near that amount.

I'll be there between Christmas and New Years. I have already accepted and expect (and budgeted) 24 × 5 (guests) per individual attraction. $120 a ride. And sadly, unlike the Genie rides, these ones, I am predicting for resort guests will need to be booked at or soon after 7. Hopefully I'm wrong. Of course, it was my choice to take my family of 5 to WDW 9n the busiest week of the year.

That kind of depends on what you want to do with your day. If you don't want to rope drop (or got a late start) and the kids want to ride 7DMT, you may just pay for that and stick with standby for everything else.

The only ones we plan to buy are Rat and ROTR.

Now I'm not sure we will even have it by our trip soooo....
For Rat I will just try my best for virtual queue.
My guy and my brother can wait in stand-by for ROTR if they choose and I will shop/eat/drink with my sister. Happy compromise! :D

As hypocritical I admit I sound (because of the wife and kids disney desire factor) I have $1000 budgeted for rides. The two IAS rides I will be skipping (or at least not paying for) is Space Mountain and SDMT at MK. And now I might skip Frozen also since it seems that will be in the IAS tier and not Test Track. So I'll be paying for rat, slinky, rise, and FOP...$480 total. $525 for 7 days of the Genie. $1005 total. It is possible I will not need the Genie on Jan 2 or 3rd when the parks are emptier and everyone left for home..I guess we will see. It's a shame but I'm a glutton for punishment. I'll be cutting back elsewhere.

Do you guys have a hard time hitting rope drop?

If I went alone or it was my wife and I we would consider it. We might do early entry on our AK day since it's the only park we are doing once and run over to Everest. We will see.

Generally we arrive between 1030 and noon and spend until the park closes. In the past we would usually have a character meal at 10am and head to the parks but those days are over. We just like to sleep in on vacation.
