Lightning Lane at Walt Disney World

I know the GIF was in jest, but it seemed to sum up (albeit in humorous terms) a view conveyed also in your more serious posts. Forgive me if I’ve misunderstood your stance.
Oh yes, I genuinely think people who don't rope drop, particularly in a EMHH/IAS world, are nuts. But I'm not mad at it.

My attitude has changed. I was just there in March. I've ridden everything I've wanted to ride, with the exception of Rat. My intention this week (I drive down Thursday) is to soak in the atmosphere and ride attractions with reasonable wait times but not be a park commando. I'll enjoy my time more that way.

I definitely agree with that. I'll never set an alarm on vacation. But 6:30 is our normal wakeup time.

I was 100% prepared to pay my way instead of waking up early. (I don't mind waking up booking rides than do my morning) but I hate rushing around in the am. Might rope drop a few days but not every day since genie won't be live now for my trip.

Without an alarm I'm up at 5am for work, by the way. It's the wife and kids who sleep in. And I go along with it since it's their vacation also. I'm the true kid on the trip itching to get to the parks. I just pick and choose my battles lol. I actually TRY to sleep past 5 or 530 on my off days and cannot.

Good possibility I'll be poking around on the Genie pr buying the IAS rides for the day in the food Court with coffee while the wife and kids are in bed still.

With the recent announcement that Remy will use a VQ, will the only options be VQ and pay? Or will it be VQ, Pay or Standby? I'm not clear as to if they will still use a standby in the beginning.

I don't think there will ever be VQ and standby. Feels like VQ or pay for as long as VQ is necessary, then when VQ is no longer necessary, it'll switch to standby or pay.

"EPCOT'S new Remy's Ratatouille Adventure will open on October 1 with a virtual queue and no traditional standby line."

"Later in the year, when Disney Genie becomes available, guests will have the opportunity to purchase admission via the Lightning Lane entrance even if the virtual queue is full."

The only ones we plan to buy are Rat and ROTR.

Now I'm not sure we will even have it by our trip soooo....
For Rat I will just try my best for virtual queue.
My guy and my brother can wait in stand-by for ROTR if they choose and I will shop/eat/drink with my sister. Happy compromise! :D

I'm in the same boat - and only because I've never ridden either ride. We got shut out of RotR Boarding Groups on the one trip we tried to get them and, obviously, Rat isn't open yet. We'll probably try for a Rat BG first, but between our past experience trying to get a BG and the fact that they will have even fewer available when they start selling IAS access, I'm not holding my breath. And if the price for either ride is more than $10 then we're definitely not paying it. We're going in early December, so I'll be interested to see how the lines for Rise are closer to closing time. If wait times are decent then we'll probably just take our chances and save our money.

Honestly, it's still up in the air whether we'll even pay for Genie+ (and how often, if we do get it). My wife has been asking for some more pool days during our trips, so the increased upcharges just might tip the scales in that direction. There's nothing we haven't been able to ride that we want to (aside from Rise), so we don't feel the need to race around and ride every ride each trip anymore. If Genie+ ends up making visits more enjoyable (vs. not using it at all, not compared to the free FP+ era), then we'll get it but will probably scale back in other areas like swap a QS meal for a TS or even just buy some food at Target on our way in from the airport, buy fewer souvenirs, etc.

We are staying on-site for right now but that is very likely going to change to off-site. This dream that some people (not pointing at you. :) ) have that has convinced them that they will be able to rope drop both IAS attractions each day is hysterical to me. They'll be lucky to get through the attraction #1 before that tiny little 30 minutes is gone.
Given what people who have done Early entry the last two days have posted, doing 2-3 rides with practically no wait seems to be the norm.

I think the situation is the absolute opposite to that. Chapek is very much involved in Genie.
Sure, he wants shareholders to know monetization is coming. Same reason it was announced back in 2019 and even though they had the whole of the pandemic to work on it, it still seems like it's not ready for primetime. From what I've read, it sounds like there were competing ideas right up until it was launched in August.

Pump that stock price so that when it comes time for Executive bonuses or retirement packages, they can point to the run during their tenure.
