Lesser Known Magical Experiences

I've read all ten pages and here are my suggestions (some concurring with previous posters):

  1. Fireworks Cruise- we had a blast on the vintage speedboat-Breathless for the Illuminations Cruise. Got to go 50mph and do figure 8's out by Hollywood Studios since it was closed.
  2. Boardwalk, boardwalk, boardwalk...including Yacht/Beach Club side.
  3. Wonderland Tea Party for your young princesses. Great value compared, and get to spend 1hr playing around and spending time with Alice and Madhatter. No adults aloud, so free time!
  4. Riding up front in the Monorail
  5. Resort hopping. Personal favorite includes sitting at Grand Flo and listening to the band.
  6. Flag family at Wilderness Lodge still available?
  7. Take some boats! I especially appreciate the one that goes between Marketplace and West Side at Downtown Disney between shopping and Dinner.
  8. Horse carriage ride at Port Orleans. Very nice and quiet.
  9. If you think you've done everything by riding a ride each once, try them again at nighttime. I love outside rides and the parks at night. Different and wonderful experiences to be had.
  10. Turtle talk with Crush-Epcot- IF he picks your kid to speak with him, that is a great moment for both kid and parents. Random, but seeing it several times should give them the opportunity to raise their hands to talk with him and be chosen.
  11. Pressed pennies- not a huge deal to most, but kids love "collecting them" around the World. You can buy collection books at stores down there. Machines are all over the place.
  12. Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique-Downtown Disney-now offers one styling booth in the front window of the store for all to observe! I don't know if it is special request or ...
  13. 4 for a dollar WAS great. Miss them.
  14. Give kids their own disposable camera. My 5 yo daughter thought that was the greatest thing ever.
  15. Ask the step sisters from Cinderella to sing for you...hilarious.
  16. Park playgrounds are a good way for kids to let off some steam. We like the Honey, I shrunk... one at Hollywood.
  17. Watch the walking/talking trashcan in Tomorrowland at MK or at Conservation Station at AK. Very neat.
  18. Ride on the MK carousel horse with the gold bow on its tail. Ask for a driver's/pilot license on Dumbo.
  19. Doing the wave before Fantasmic. Very fun.
  20. Last but not least. STOP AND TAKE THE SIGHTS, SMELLS, AND SOUNDS IN.
Hope this helps.

Does the pageant still visit FW? I remember watching it there as a kid, but I haven't stayed there in a while.
One of our favorite things to do before we started buying APs was to check in to the campground, set up our camper, and take the boat to the MK to get on the monorail. Then we'd get the connection to Epcot, and ride that loop a few times. It was like being inside the park without wasting a day of our tickets for a few hours in the evening.
Also, I went down for my senior spring break with a Disney virgin. I had an AP, but she could only afford a 5-day Park Hopper for our 6-day vacation. So, on our extra day, we spent the entire day Resort hopping. We visited every hotel but All-Star Music and Movies (and that was only due to the fact that the bus we caught that was supposed to take us there from Sports was full and decided to head straight to the MK). It turned out to be a really fun day and we have all kinds of great pictures. I thought it really gave her a taste for the WDW experience.
Visits FW after WL - it is the final show of the night and still just as enjoyable as it was in the '70s. The floats for the pageant are kept at the MK backstage area.

Here're some of the things that I sometimes like to do, and someday plan on doing:

1. Hoop-de-doo review at Fort wilderness, and the Luau at Polynesion.
2. The electric light parade on the water at the MK resorts.
3. Segway tours at Epcot and elsewhere.
4. Pulling the rope outside Indiana Jones; the archaeologists don't like it.
5. Watching the people scream down Splash Mountain.
6. At midafternoon, the staff at the Polynesion do an impromptu hula.
7. Jugglers and Magicians on the Boardwalk at night.
8. The muli-person bicycles at the Boardwalk.
9. Many resorts show movies in the evening.
10. Waving at the people on Small World from Pinocchio's snack shop windows.
11. Terrorizing the birds at Pecos Bill's
12. Listening to Sonny Eclipse.
13. Playing the Drums at Animal Kingdom and World Showcase.
14. Listening to the Jammitors and other entertainments that pop up all over.
15. Purposely standing behind people getting their picture taken (I may be in your photo album).
16. Just sitting at the outdoor restaurant in Mexico, by the water, and listening to the different musical groups all over Epcot (you can hear them all).
17. Being picked as a volunteer at Indiana Jones, the Backlot tour, the World Showcase players, or a dozen other places.
18. The Behind the Seeds tour.
19. Any of the other special tours (steam trains, Animal Kingdom, etc . )
20. Just taking the boat between Epcot and Disney Studios.
21. Getting early to Star Tours, and watching the CM's come in wearing their costumes, and predicting where they work.
22. Striking up conversations with everybody while standing in line.
23. Watching people (adults) standing in line to see the characters, some of whom are too into it and need an intervention or therapy. (Most of the guests are just having fun, but some really need to get a life.)

I have done most of these, and hope to do the rest some day. What a fun list.

On my last trip to WDW I got the privilege to ride up front with the monorail driver. Many people know that you can ride up front, but it was a first for me. :)

With the riding up front of the monarail just be warned it only fits 4!!!!!!!!! We where a party of 9 and we asked the cm on the docks if we could ride up front and he said we would have the 2nd available one since anther family was waiting. We were early for our ressies so we figured why not wait. So we waited for 4 trains count them 4 and finally we could do it and at that pint the cm decided to inform us it only would hold 4!!!!!!!!!! We asked if we could squeeze just the 4 kids in and he said NO so after waiting a log time we couldn't even do it! I mean we could have but how fair would it be to split up and say some kids could do it and some couldn't. UGH! I wish the CM would have told us when we 1st arrived!

I am guessing there is also some sort of age restriction where kids under 16 or whatever (10?, 12?) have to be accompanied by an adult.

If you are among the first to enter Tinkerbell’s Treasures shop, on your left as you pass through Cinderella Castle, ask the Cast Member if you can wake-up Tinkerbell. Boys are given a sword and the girls a wand and they are instructed to tap on a small chest three times and say “wake-up Tinkerbell”. Sure enough Tinkerbell wakes-up and flies around the room in a dazzling display of lights and sounds. I also thought they did it by ringing a bell... but I could be wrong. The helpers are usually given a certificate that proclaims that they helped wake-up Tinkerbell. If you miss this morning ceremony, Tink typically flies around the shop intermittently through out the day.

My daughter got to do this the last time we went, she felt very special. And its just like you described, although I don't remember a bell.

Where's that Hidden Disney video? Oh, darnit. I belive that on www.secondstarfilms.com there is a great video on all these secrets special effects hidden in Disney World. Take a look!

That video was great, though I don't agree with the rankings and it seems that AK got shafted as well but for being an Indy it was great. Very Travel Channel mixed with Best Week Ever/I Love the.../etc. from VH1.

One of my favorite things to do at the World is get a caricature of me and my twin sister made. Its a tradition that we've had since the first time we visisted WDW. We always ask the artist to draw us as Disney characters, such as princesses or pirates. Its a ton of fun, the artists have always been extremely friendly, and it makes an awesome souvenir!

Another thing that I love doing with my family every time we go to WDW is getting to the MK early in the morning, heading to the bakery, buying something yummy, and just enjoy a nice breakfast together. Its a fantastic way to start the day!

Also, I used to really enjoy the group that would perform before The Beauty and the Beast stage show at DHS. Sadly, they ended their pre-show show this year. I would say don't miss them, but I suppose its too late.
(Sorry, I forget the name of the group. I think it had the word "Four" or "Dime" or "Quarter" in it or something.)

Also, stating the obvious, I know, but BUY MICKEY EARS! Classic or not, the best way to experience Disney is with a pair of mouse ears on top of your head!

Four For a Dollar, I have a video of them at my site http://www.mousemagichd.com/ you can download the High Def version, download iPod version or watch it streaming online.

They are called Return 2 Zero offsite and they now perform at Sea World Thursday - Monday in front of the Polar Express Experience. They also do other shows around Orlando (I think they have performed at the Gaylord Center numerous times) and more info can be found at their site http://www.return2zero.net/

Don't know if anyone mentioned this in this 8-page long hidden secrets extravaganza, but I like to time my night right so we go on the TTA at the start of the fireworks. There are some great views and we get to sit down and when the TTA gets back around to the exit, the cast members never have a problem with letting you go around again.

Mine isn't so much 'lesser known' as not so much visited. On my last trip to Disney on my normal trip into the park on my own(I get 1 day to myself, rents don't trust me =[ )I did the Maraja(sp?) Jungle Trek in Animal Kingdom. It was a pretty cool expirience since I'd never done it before and I could just watch the animals as long as I wanted.
