is it that bad?

I know it has a bad reputation. Nobody in my family has had an interest in going there until now. My husband wants to go and since it's his choice, I don't feel comfortable trying to talk him out of it (especially since none of us have been). It's his vacation, too and we each have our dining choices.

I don't mind trying it once, but I was wondering if I should steel myself for poor food & service, since it seems like it is a much-maligned place.

It's not terrible it's just not that good:brick:

Best part is usually the dessert, main courses are al very bland and extremely average!!

We've eaten there 3 times (May & November 2009 and February 2011) and thought it was good every time...

I ate there a couple years ago before the Candlelight Processional, and I have to say it was a very nice dining experience. I was dining solo, and my server was super nice and attentive, and I thought the food was pretty good.

My wife and I ate there last year for the first time, and much prefer Bistro de Paris. The service was very good, the food was good, but the real issue for us was, it is very loud! We also thought that the tables were to close to each other. Our server had to go sideways just to get to us! Not very convenient for them at all.

I would try it once, and see for yourself how you like it. If you go early enough for lunch (right at 11), it shouldn't be as crowded as early afternoon. I will say that if you get a window table (we were in the middle), there will be a good view for people watching.

I ate there October 2011 for lunch and thought it was great! The food was delicious, plus Remy came around to see us.

I say give it a try.

I would have liked it better if I didn't order three items with cheese(salad, soup, flatbread) ....on top of the macaroni and cheese item we shared at the table.
Boy, it all sounded so good when I ordered it. I ruined my own meal.

My wife and I ate there in Oct 2011 and enjoyed ourselves very much. Hadn't dined there in over 10 years at the time, but we're going back next week.

We always eat the fixed menu lunch twice each trip. It is always good and a good value. Out of over 30 meals there we have only had one server who we would not have wanted again. The other 29 plus servers make one want to go to France as they have been a joy. :)

I always enjoy Chefs, it is also one of my kids favorites.

The mistake (or misconception) that most people have is they expect fine French dining.

That is not what you are going to get, nor should it be.

Le Chefs is supposed to be a Brasserie - From Wikipedia; The word brasserie is also French for "brewery" and, by extension, "the brewing business". A brasserie can be expected to have professional service, printed menus, and, traditionally, white linen—unlike a bistro which may have none of these. Typically, a brasserie is open every day of the week and serves the same menu all day.

It is supposed to be loud and crowded. It is not fine dining.

Disney somehow makes a mess of this. They don't advertise Le Chefs to clearly as a brasserie. And then then name the upscale place a bistro - which again, it's not.

Misnomers aside, I have always enjoyed the food at Le Chefs.

My DH and I really like it here. We always get the same thing so maybe that is why we like it! We get the french onion soup, the filet and then a dessert. The best thing ever was when my mom and I went for lunch last summer. We had a salad and quiche and then split a dessert but Remy came to our table and it was incredible! So fun! Of all the things we had to eat, nothing was bad. Was it California Grill? No, but it was good.

We ate there for the first time last year, and it was one of our favorite dining experiences. Try to go when Remy is visiting the tables. His handler, Armand, is hysterical and was one of the funniest encounters we have ever had at WDW.

I had the seafoodd trio with gnocchi. It was good but my favorite parts of the meal were the flatbread with onion, bacon, and creme fraiche and my new favorite WDW dessert - profiteroles with chocolate sauce. Excellent!

Also, our waiter was serious eye candy sp that didn't hurt the situation one bit.

I must have gone to a completely different restaurant than others. This place is dirty, poor service, and really bad food. French onion soup was like dirty water. Dried out mac n cheese, braised chewy short rib. Nothing was good at all. Nobody in our party like it all. In my opinion, it needs a refurb like tutto italia.

My husband and I ate there Saturday night while on vacation. We sat next to the window in area where they prepare dessert. Our waiter was GREAT. The food was also good, the short ribs fell apart and done perfect.(not dry) My husband ate the filet it also was good. My husband actually wiped the plate clean with his bread. The rest is not fine dining french food, but its not supposed to be. You want good french food came to NYC or go to france.
Try it if you never went before its another experiences good or bad.

I don't know where the OP read that it was "that bad"....it consistently gets some of the best reviews at Epcot. I lived in Paris for years, and the food here is typical northern French bistro fare, and it is good.

Prices are also good -- you can get the three course prix fix meal at the same price you would be paying for burgers at the quick service stands....

Love Chefs de France....it's a regular stop at every visit.

I guess I should add: If you do not like French bistro food, you will not like this restaurant....it does not cater to the burger and salad desires of some visitors.

I have read negative comments at various blogs such as the Disney Food Blog and the guest food blogger at All Ears. I have also read comments from people here.

I do love some good cheese and it looks like I can score here. They also have a couple vegetarian options.

Anyway, thanks everyone. I am feeling better about eating here.

We have never eaten at Les Chefs de France but are planning on including it in our dining plans when we visit in July. I'm relieved to see there are some positive thoughts and experiences in regards to Les Chefs!!! :)

I took my daughters (9, 15) for a girly lunch last June and we all had a lovely time. My youngest adored Remy and my eldest didn't know which way to look; they must hire the waitstaff from a modelling agency!

Our food was all good, above average at least, and my sorbet was luscious. In fact it's one of the few restaurants we all want to return to.
