Le Cellier

I really don't undersand all the hype--had lunch at Le Cellier for the first time last week and my wife and I honestly didn't like the food. The menu had all of 8 choices of which 4 were sandwiches. What we had was so-so at best. Les Chefs de France was much better with a more diverse menu...and a cute, animatronic rat.

Not a steak person, I guess.

Question about Le Cellier lunch & dinner menus.

Anyone have an idea why the Filet Mignon costs the same as the New York Strip for dinner ($34.99) but less for lunch (25.99 vs 30.99)? Is there some sort of difference that I'm missing?

Straight from the menu on WDW website:

I am just guessing but I would assume that the size of the steak is reduced for the lunch menu.

Well I guess my dilemma is whether to chose the NY Strip or the Filet at lunch time. I think the Filet is only 7-oz while the strip is 14 oz. However, the Strip is also more expensive. I also plan on buying a beer, so I have to take that into consideration.

Has anyone had both the strip & filet? Which is better or gives you a better bang for your buck?

You are really looking at quality vs quantity. The fillet is IMHO a much better cut of meat. For me I shoot for the quality because regardless of whether that fillet is 6oz or 20oz there is no chance that I am leaving Le Cellier hungry.

When I booked my stay at Disney World last month, I had my travel agent check for an opening at Le Cellier anytime during my stay (8/2 - 8/7) but nothing was available. I tried again with the online system last week, but still nothing. This morning I figured I would try again - and I got one! Dinner on 8/3 @ 6:30pm! I am so excited... I have been really wanting to try this place.

I am, and I still didn't find it all that impressive. It's not bad by any stretch, but I just don't understand all the hype. It's not anything to write home about. I have had better steaks in a dozen other places, including my house. I have also had better ambaince loads of other places.

It's the combo of: filet and strip that is only 1 TS on the dining plan, located inside a park, with very little seating. If they doubled the size, or made it Signature Dining on the dining plan, I bet it would lose its allure.

When I was there in February of 2007 - I walked by around lunch time and a cast member came up to me and asked me if I would like a table for lunch. At this time I did not know much about the restaurant or its popularity and kindly said no because I was on my way to try out Marrakesh (which I also had no reservation for).
I am pretty disappointed I did not take that opportunity when I could have just walked in no problem. It seems lots of people are having trouble getting in, however. maybe February is way less busy.

I can see that. But I also hear lots of reports of "It was the best meal I ever had" "Best steaks ever" "Soooooo good, steaks cant be beat" and things like that.

I can see how the "price" of 1 TS credit is an attraction. Quite frankly the cash price is an attraction as well. Compare a dinner there to say Morton's and its night and day in prices.

Very true- I think some of the "best meal I ever had" comments could come from folks that don't frequent a Mortons, Ruths Chris or Capital Grille high end type of steakhouse. Heck, I doubt it's the best steak even in WDW, but if you haven't gone to a signature restaurant, you wouldn't know what was out there for comparison. But for the price, it may be quite a bargain!
We haven't gone since 2001 but am giving it a try for lunch this year just to see if any of the current hype is justified! I can only hope I come out yelling "best steaks ever!":D

Has anyone heard about the double booking issue at Le Cellier? I have a friend working there now and she told me that the on site reservations weren't able to access the online reservations and they had hundreds of double booked tables.

Does anyone know if it's been resolved?

Yup, I also have 2 reservations at Canada in Sept. I felt very lucky to be able to get them. A lot of people think it's overrated, but where else in a Disney park can you get a filet (keep in mind using the DDP), for just one table service?

Heck, where else in a Disney park can you get a filet for $26 for lunch?

I'm just hoping it's good. If it's better than something like Outback's steak, I'll be happy. It doesn't have to be Mortin's status.

You should be pleased then. If you want a real treat and don't mind spending a good bit on dinner head to Carley's on I drive. They have a 20oz fillet there that is simply incredible.

Heading for the great escape.
I had the coffee rubbed steak on Thanksgiving and I can honestly say that Id rather stick a red hot poker up my jaxi than stick another piece of that foul creation in my mouth. The set dinner was reminiscent of my old school meals, in both appearance and quality.

So we are hitting two good meals to one absolute howler for the LC, and wont be bothered about visiting this trip.
