Um... I am so excited to try LeCellier on my upcoming trip in September! Just nervous that I am not going to get in since free dining will be doing on! My fingers are crossed. I actually want a later seating thou, do you think my chances are good to get in after 7p?

I keep hearing about the melt in your mouth tender steaks at Le Cel.

Tender schmender.

How does it TASTE (and the meat, not the sauce. Sauce masks lower quality meat)

The meat I had there was not that all fired flavorful.

But again, to each their own. If tenderness is what excites you, then by all means go.

Dude, an M&M melts in your mouth, as does a Hershey Bar but nobody is on here screaming how good they are. That steak was the best single piece of food I ever ate.

Wow, I have to completely disagree. The beef used at Le Cellier was some of the best quality meat I've ever had. Tenderness, quality and flavour go hand-in-hand and Alberta beef is some of the finest in the world. And a good sauce compliments quality meat. Le Cellier does steak better than most.

But you're right, to each their own. :D

EDIT: My only thought is perhaps you ate there during the Mad Cow scare when Le Cellier had to "settle" for inferior American beef?

Tendernes and flavor (lets leave out quality as that is an objective term, and really has no meaning outside of some quality management classes - lesson one, define quality - still drives me nuts, but I digress) can go hand in hand, or maybe not. I have had tender beef that was quite bland. On the other hand, one of my favorite cuts if a hangar steak (onglet for those with a bent for the French language) Hangar steak is far from tender (but it is not tough either, if cooked correctly) but the flavor in that cut is just wonderful.

About sauce, you highlighted the correct word - compliments - not overwhelms. Steaks covered in blue cheese or doused in a heavy mushroom grave are not being complimented, they are being masked. I forget what times I ate at Le Cellier, but I was unimpressed. The steaks were good steaks - but just good. They were tender, yes, but were not anything special.

I am not that familar with Candaian beef grades, but I am assuming that "Alberta beef" is like "Kansas beef" - it is beef grown in a location. It can be USDA Prime or Canner grade or it can be Canadian AAA or whatever the Canadians call canner grade.

Also, you can bring in the best beef in the world, and then stick it under the heat lamps, or *gasp&* give it some radar love and ruin it. I am not saying this is SOP in Le Cellier, but I would not be suprised if it does happen at times.

I will give Le Cellier another chance (or multiple chances) because as I have said, its not a BAD place, its just has not lived up to the "people beating down the doors to get the best steak ever reputation" people seem to think it has.

I could care less about how hard itis to eat somewhere. I LOVE food, and that is good steak that I had. Everyone agreed, and nobody in my party has a problem with eating there 3-4 days next trip...

To each his/her own definatly.

Well I can't disagree with you there, everyone's taste is different. And I am certainly not saying Le Cellier is anywhere near bad, I just don't think they are as good as many people think they are.

The best steaks I have ever had are at Bern's Steakhouse in Tampa, Florida. About an hour from WDW.

I had an Onglet at Fleming's in Tampa a week or two ago. One of the best steaks I have ever had. Then I found out Fleming's is a chain. I was floored. Then I looked, and there is one located near my home. Life is good. :)

Thats because M&M and Hershey is run of the mill chocolate, just as the steaks I had at Le Cell were run of the mill steaks. As I said, maybe it was on bad nights, but they did not live up to the hype.

I can think of easily dozens of better peices of food I have had than that steak, and not all of them steak. I can also think of hundreds of worse meals I have had.

Try Shula's at the Dolphin next time :) But be sure you are hungry :)
I have eaten at Bern's and I have to say that it lives up to its reputation. (great escargot as well). It's also nice how they give you a tour of their wine cellar and kitchen. The best steak I have ever had hands down was at Peter Luger's in N.Y. That is my favorite place for steak. I even enjoyed that more than Kobe Beef.

I have to somewhat agree with Phonedave when it comes to steak. Tenderness is not necessarily the be-all end-all. A filet is tender and IMO quite tasteless. One can take a tougher and fattier cut of meat and prepare it properly (braising is good) and it will be a party in your mouth.

However, to each their own.

The thing that makes Le Cellier unique is that it is one of the few in park table service restaurants that you can get a really good steak at. You also have a choice that goes beyond the typical "sirloin". Then there is the beer cheese soup and the pretzel bread which are to die for.

Agreed!

Try the California Grill on top of the COntempory, by far my favorite restaurant in WDW!

But yankspy - have you tried Shula's? Just a question... my father was San Francisco's best Maitre'De, circa 1954-1968. Shula's offerings, atmosphere, and service remind me a LOT of restaurants in that era - stunning :)
No, not yet. I think I may have to try it out in October.

this place took off since the dining plan became popular -

most of the people who usually care about receipts raved about the fact that they got filet mignions worth about $30 alone for "free" on their dining plan.

I think even it tasted poorly it would be popular because people are trying to "make their money back" on the plans.

I am blessed to not have to worry about money for the most part, and I eat at whatever place I enjoy the most using the Deluxe dining plan - I do not try to make up for the cost
