Lake Buena Vista: Is it pronounced -

A) Lake Bew-na Vista, or

B) Lake Boi-na Vista?

This is to settle a dispute between myself and my wife.

Depends on dialect and accent, really. I say it like this: Lake BWENA Vista

If we are gonna get technical, then "vista" with a short i is wrong. The Spanish pronunciation has a long e. As for Buena, use that guide of Spanish vowel pronunciations some gave a few posts up. Say each vowel as it normally sounds alone- "Boo ay na"

"Anglocized" versions of Spanish words aren't too uncommon. For example, ask most people to name the biggest city in California, and they'll say "Las Anjelus," not "LOs An-hay-lays."

That's my lead in justification for saying I prefer "vista" to "veesta."
