Late Arrival / Magical Express

Hi Everyone.

We will be arriving at POFQ in mid September. Our flight does not land until 8:00pm. Does anyone have prior experience with a late landing and when they receive their bags back in their room, that they could share.

Of course we will be packing a days worth of clothing in our carry on, but I like to be all unpacked before we go to sleep.

So we land at 8pm, are using DME for transportation, checking in and seeing our room and then heading out into the resort to get a bite to eat at the lounge. Do you think our bags will be waiting for us at around 11pm?

Thanks in advance.

They say to figure 3 hours. We usually don't arrive at the airport 'til after 10, so we've always just handled our own luggage.

Last year we arrived later due to unexpected airport delays. We landed around 8:00 PM, we arrived at the GF by Magical Express around 9:00 PM, and some of our luggage was brought to our room at 11:00 PM and the rest of it around 12:00 AM.

At that time of night, I would collect your bags and bring them on the bus. I'm not one for advocating doing this as I like having my bags taken care of for me, but this is an instance where I recommend it, because if they are super busy or something goes wrong at the airport you might not get your bags until the next morning.

We landed at 7:30ish (two delayed flights, ugh) and got our luggage at 11:30ish. So it was over the three hours, but it's not like we were going anywhere at that time of night. We had called the front desk at about 11 and they told us that due to the flight delays, they had a hard time figuring out where the luggage was in the airport, but that all was well and it was on the way.

The last time we went to WDW, we arrived around noon. We did not get our bags until later that evening, probably around 8pm. They misplaced our luggage somehow. They gave us 50 Disney Dollars, so that was nice! :slurp: :slurp:

It has not happened to us but there have been postings on this forum about people receiving their bags at 2:00 AM. If it were me, I'd just grab my bags and have them brought with me on the bus.

Last year we landed at 10pm and it was actually really nice because we were the only ones on the whole bus, it was really quiet which was great because we were so beat....but we got into our resort, checked in, had a bite to eat and by the time we were finished with all the our bags were in our room. that was at pop century so i'm assuming with a moderate it might be even better but...that's just my thought process, i dont have facts to back that up :animwink:

In the DMEbooklet, it never says to expect your luggage 3 hours after you land. It says to expect your luggage 3 hours after you arrive at your resort. So in your case, your luggage arrived a little bit ahead of schedule.

If you are landing at 8, you can expect to be at POFQ by 9:15 or 9:30 (after a 10 p.m. landing, it took me only 56 minutes from landing to POFQ, but that's faster than the 70 minute average). You should expect your luggage within about 3 hours from resort arrival, so it's possible your luggage would be delivered to you by 11, but I wouldn't bet on it.

As for someone's comment about hearing about people not getting their bags 'til 2:00 a.m. ... well, that would be expected if someone landed at MCO around 10:00 p.m. My personal experience: with our 6 year old and 4 year old, landed 10 p.m., arrived at POFQ 11 p.m., packed carry-ons with immediate needs, meant to ask to have DME bags held 'til morning but forgot, phone woke us up at 1:15 a.m. asking us if we wanted our bags now or in the morning (2.25 hours after resort arrival). So some might call my luggage ready at 1:15 a.m. a horror story, but they simply would be uninformed. For someone who arrived at a resort at 11:00 p.m., 1:15 a.m. luggage availability would be an example of luggage ready AHEAD OF SCHEDULE!!! It's an example of the system working better than promised, not an example of a problem. The only problem in that scenario is that I forgot to ask to have the DME bags held 'til morning (and yes, we flew after the restrictions on liquids were already put in place!) and we got uneccesarily woken up due to my own negligence.

Keep in mind that if you claim your own luggage you'll probably arrive at POFQ later than if you let DME do the luggage handling. In the time it takes to wait for your bags an so on, it's probable that you missed the first available bus to POFQ and will have to wait for the next one. No worries, you are not scheduled for a specific bus and you didn't miss out on anything, it's just that you'll get to POFQ later.

If you decide to get your own bags, make sure you DON'T put the yellow DME luggage tags on your bags. If you do, they won't show up at baggage claim for you to claim ... they'll be in the process of being delivered to your resort by truck.

On a different note ....
You mention getting a bite at the lounge. Scat Cats stops serving food at 10:00 p.m. (and even then it's ONLY wings, mozzarella bites and nachos). You can get food from the adjacent food court, but you won't have access to the bar menu after 10.

Hey all On my last late night arrival, the thoughtful people at Coronado specifically asked us if we wanted them to hold the bags until morning and we said yes. They were wonderful about it and brought the bags around the following morning when I called!!!! Belle

If you don't want to deal with getting your own luggage, you can pack a small carry-on overnight bag with clothes for the next day and toiletries to get you through until your luggage arrives.

Officially...

Luggage delivery from the airport to the resort may take up to 3 hours after the Guest has checked into the resort. For late arrivals, you may let Bell Services know if you would like your luggage delivered as soon as it arrives or if you would like it held until the following morning.

For guest arriving after 11:00 PM it is recommended by Disney that they pick up their luggage from baggage claim and then proceed to the Disney Welcome Center. If they do not their luggage could be delivered very early in the morning.

If you choose to claim your own luggage, be sure NOT to attach the yellow bag tags to your luggage. Any tagged luggage will be pulled by airport personnel and sent to Disney's Magical Express Distribution to be delivered to your Resort, and will not be directed to baggage claim.

Yup, great idea. We always do that when we travel and have to check the bulk of our luggage. I'd advise packing your swimsuit in there also. (If you plan on swimming of course.)

If you do worry about your bags getting to your room late, (ie waking you up late) then just you can use the bus service just don't put the tags on your bags before you leave and pick them up yourself. We did it last Nov. because we came in really late, somewhere between 11 and 11:30. Which meant that they would have brought them to us around 3 in the morning. This way we had our bags with us when we transfered to our main resort. POP for one night, then over to OKW for the rest of our visit. The only small problem was that at the time we got there the food court was closed so we had to order pizza from off site, so we got to sleep later than I would have liked.

A good solution!

Instead of leaving the luggage to be collected at the carousel, by a Cast Member, you can collect it yourself and take it to the bus you are travelling on. That way when you arrive at the resort you can take your luggage staight to your room. From experiance DME can take 3-4 hours to arrive.
