Large Piece Falls off Monorail - Being Evacuated

Because we know who the manufacturer is and what system they are purchasing? Do you think they 'reimagine' the buses when they purchase them as well? Its the same thing. And yes, River Journey is a boat ride. Do you think when it goes 101 its the actual ride system thats the problem? Usually not.

The pixie dust is obviously strong in you. We should just agree to disagree.

Oh yes, because using actual facts is somehow 'pixie dusting'.

Should this have happened? No. My first post in this thread was to say that the monorail trains should have been replaced by now. But if you (or raven, or whoever) is going to equate an incident on the monorail to immediate failure of something else, of course I'm going to call that out, because its nonsense - plain and simple.

Oh, and just so you know, I didn't visit WDW for nearly 7 years because of the condition and changes to the resort (and NGE). I have no plans to go back, and I will visit DLR instead, despite it being 2000 miles further away. I only went to run the Dopey Challenge - which they canceled a day of, and didn't enjoy the parks like I do at DLR. But because I defend Disney on those pesky things called 'facts', I'm a pixie duster. Good luck with that one, broski.

Facts? LMAO! :joyfull:

I'm not attributing my comments to a single incident, it's just the latest and greatest. There is a long and well documented history of incidents.

I would be the first person to say it's definitely time for some new trains, but to be fair this is just one of those things that can happen every once in a while. It is hardly the first time a train has lost a collector shoe. The big difference is in the past this would have been a short downtime with no evacuation. Disney tends to overreact now with monorail incidents.

Both types of incidents are highly improbably and completely unheard of. I bet @Lift Blog can tell us when the last time a Gondola came off a system, if it has ever happened.

First hit on google. We don't have an ice problem here, but we have other problems. I don't recall any major incidents at Bush Gardens other than the one in 2009.

Did you bother reading it? The cars did not detach from the system, it was as tower that collapsed.

Also:

None of the gondola cars came off the cable. One hit a house and another came to rest on a bus shelter, Whistler RCMP Sgt. Steve Wright said.

This is basically a worst case scenario. No cars detached, no serious injuries. The article DOES mention the chairlift that failed and killed people, but that is not what WDW is getting.

While I don't think it's feasible to run a normal refurb schedule like an attraction when it comes to a transportation system, I do think they need to follow the lead of other, similar transportation methods in cities around the world.

Ok then, lets see that list. 46 years, it should be quite lengthy, yes?

There's plenty of data waiting to be found. You wanted facts, right? ;)

Seriously, something like this is truly terrifying and should light several fires under several butts in Burbank or Orlando. Any of us who were around Disneyland during the dark Pressler/Harriss years can tell you that maintenance is a matter of life and death. @TP2000 and others who were there know the consequences of poor maintenance, training and operations. This piece could have been a repeat of the horrific Columbia accident at Disneyland if a guest had been in that flying piece's way.

Here's the problem: If they try to do any type of work, people lose their minds. They are replacing the doors on the Contemporary which requires downtime of a couple of days, and it was like they announced that they were bulldozing the Castle around here.

Oh, are we suddenly limiting facts that we will accept to singular kinds of incidents now?

If they could build two new trains they could cycle the old ones out two at a time and do a top to bottom refurb with no impact on the operation.
