Large Piece Falls off Monorail - Being Evacuated

Well, I was replying to a post about the cars coming off the cable, so, yes. Thats exactly what I said and why I tagged Lift Blog, to see if that specific thing had ever happened before.
I think the big danger with cable car/gondolas is the cable coming off one or more of the lift towers. Depending on where it is in the path, that might be relatively inconsequential, or deadly to the riders.

This, TDO is going to run it into the ground until there is a major fatality, again.... then the lawyers and bean counters will say no more monorail etc. The day is coming sadly...... The company should be ashamed when they are sitting on so much money, they can easily afford a new fleet or overhaul it. After almost 50 years its getting pretty bad inside and out, yet they do nothing.

Unfortunately this is probably how it's really going to play out.

Obviously if the cable came out of the track on the towers, that would be a bad day, but I don't think it would result in anything more than the system becoming inoperable, as it would drop and catch between the other towers or on the problem tower itself.

Come back to me when you've done that yourself. I'll be waiting with popcorn and Orange Crush.

Man, no one wants to do anything for themselves anymore....

IMO, the gondolas are a huge mistake. How many people will they carry? How will they be more efficient than the monorails? How may gondolas will operate on a single cable, etc.

Monorail vs Gondola, I'd have to say the monorail would win for transporting more people in a timely manner. But we'll see as things progress.

I'm with you that they're a huge mistake, especially considering they're putting them up in one of the lightning capitals of the world. Whenever it storms they're down at Bush Gardens, sounds like a brilliant idea for WDW to copy!

So it appears this part fell off somewhere near the monorail station. That's the only way it could have fallen into what appears to be the parking lot. I would like to believe Disney Security or the County Sheriff retrieved the part as evidence to determine what caused the part to fall or be ripped off the monorail. Wonder if there will be a lawsuit for "almost" getting hit by falling debris?

I meant in other threads before this happened.
I agree that the fleet is getting old, no doubt about that, however, the part I object to is the idea that it is a ticking time-bomb and that Disney has ignored maintenance, etc. Things happen on mechanical objects. Things break, new things break, old things break. I don't know the maintenance schedule for the Monorails, but, I do know a little about mechanical vehicles, be they cars, buses, trains, boats or monorails. I know that they would have fallen completely apart by now if a very high level of maintenance hadn't been followed over the years. Just because one train has an issue, one that we have no idea was the cause, doesn't reflect on the work that is being done to maintain them. Brand new things break down. Ever wonder why so many of the 40+ year old attractions break down, they do it because parts wear out. You cannot always stay ahead of that otherwise the place would be closed up tight everyday. Again things happen, it was lucky that no one was injured for sure, but, to act like someone pulled the trigger, is just a way to explain away something that people generally do not understand. If you had a car that you maintained diligently for 30 years, did preventive maintenance constantly, and then ran it 14 to 18 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks out of the year, I can guarantee you that somewhere along the line something major is going to break and nothing about is was diabolical, it was strictly a fact of mechanical life.

I think if you check the photo it is EPCoT that has that parking and the monorail crosses over the lane. Probably it continued on its way and ended up back at TTC area before it was stopped. One pickup will not cause the train to stop.

I am more interested if he kept the piece? Finder's keeper's right? Imagine what it would go for on fleabay!

I don't think it's finder's keepers in the event of a transportation incident such as this, but if it is, you know Disney will do whatever it takes to get it back since it concerns the possible safety of everyone that rides the monorail. The Disney and Mfr. engineers need to understand exactly how and why this happened and take preventative measures on the tracks, trains or both to try and prevent it from happening again.

Well, since the guy tweeted it, and it's pretty much his full out name, and a picture of him with the piece, Disney could look him up in MDE and pretty much go to him. I'd guess a FP was the reward if anything, lol.
