Large crane now in Fantasyland for expansion

Yes I guess they do skew the view. I just looked on Google Maps and it looks rather large, especially in comparison to the castle, but I did notice something interesting and that is a lot being cleared behind MK drive. Maybe this is a cast only lot? Or could this be secret area being cleared for the Beasts castle?? Maybe we'll go through a tunnel under the castle and under the road to an enchanted land filled with ice cream sandwiches and E-ticket rides!

In the Google Maps view the area being cleared for MK drive is for a water retention pond. You can see it in the Scott Keating aerial pictures.

The Cinderella and Aurora area is actually VERY, very, very large. Look on Google maps.

Oh trust me I am a big dork I have spent plenty of time staring at the space from Google and my personal favorite Bing's bird's eye view. I am sure I'm wrong but after lm and batb there doesn't look like a ton of space at least not compared to the massive show buildings nearby or even tents... I'm sure it's an optical illusion.. or I'm just dumb :)

You're right. There will be a nice chunk of land between Pooh and LM where the MnG's were going to go, but I wouldn't consider it to be HUGE! Most of the new land will be absorbed by LM, BatB and the new bridges and moat.

I was underwhelmed until I saw even more current pics. They are installing roof trussses and even more cranes and heavy equipment are on site. The progress made in the last week is stunning. I definitely think they they are shooting for Oct 1, 2011 for LM, BatB, Tea Cups, Pooh and possibly the slight raceway mod to be completed. I think that is pretty much the summation of Phase 1.

Good luck getting through the Dumbo queue for anyone who dares to try. They may need to install Fastpass.

I really don't think so. I think 2012. And I think it will all open at once. Also, I question your Tea Cup theory. I don't think it will be getting much other than the new roof...

I guess you misunderstood. I am saying tea cups will have the new roof by Oct 1 2011. A safe bet I hope.

LM at DCA will open next spring and I'd say the MK version is about 6 months behind that.

The design for LM and BatB have not changed in any major way from the blueprints. They won't be "absorbing" any of the land previously reserved for the Cindy/Aurora complex. That space's use remains a mystery but it is a substantial chunk of real estate, especially after Dumbo is removed. If they run out of money, I predict we will get the world's largest theme park picnic grounds.

I don't think the Speedway track is going to be affected. Dumbo will fit without it, since only the queue tent extends back between Speedway and Barnstormer.

I think it's the inside that's really gonna kill us all, just like FJ at WWoHP.
Nah.
If FJ kills, Mermaid will only wound.

Anyone know how much (if any at all) of the themed pieces (rocks, bits of structures interior and exterior, etc) that will be made ahead of time that might sit backstage waiting for Google Earth to update? I'm really anxious to see something cool XD
Doubtful you will see any pieces of rock sitting around. Maybe some of the shaped rebar cages that make up formations, but they won't look rocky until installed and finished.

Yeah, it's big enough.
Wouldn't fit Radiator Springs Racers....but pretty big.

Yeah. Teacups will get a roof before October next year.

Unlikely. They have the money already budgeted and set aside.

Lee, long time no read from you!

Do you know what the theme for the roof will be or is that yet to be decided?

Lee, so when are they announcing Snow White?

I hope they aren't waiting until destination D since by then (heopfully) construction for it will already be underway.

I can't wait to see the concept art :D

Ahh! Gotcha! Also, you said Pooh as well. won't that be completed this November? I thought that was all that was being done to Pooh?

"land" = "Fantasyland". I'll re-phrase it to say, "Much of the new Fantasyland acreage will consist of LM and BatB."

The area occupied by the entire LM attraction is roughly 53,900 square feet (approx 1.24 acres). The area occupied by BatB (including the little bridge and moat, up to the new primary bridge) is roughly 73,100 square feet (approx 1.68 acres). The usable land in the middle where the MnGs were going to go (excluding what is currently proposed to be the new moat) is roughly 61,900 square feet (approx 1.42 acres).

So, the "leftover" land is halfway between LM and BatB in size. Substantial? Yes, but still only about 1/3 of the Phase 1 total area. It's definitely big enough to house another attraction the size of LM (including it's outdoor queue, rockwork, moat, etc).

Steve already said thathey weren't changing the roof, just repairing it. Has he changed that statement?

No. They are speculating that the Tea Cups will get and entirely new roof next year. It's just doesn't make sense to me why TDO would spend 2 months repairing a roof that they are just going to take down. I know that these repairs apparently couldn't wait but still...just push up the date and get it over with now.

Right. Why would the ride be down for as long as it's going to be, only for roof repairs? The permit didn't even say "Roof Repairs" like they usually do. It said "Roof"

And you know more about these permits then I do for sure. I am sure we will be able to tell something in the coming weeks.
