I was on google earth and there is a significant amount of land cleared behind Asia at AK and also North of Epcot there are ttwo other large plotes of cleared land.
Yes. You are correct. This land has been cleared for several years now. This is the main point people use whenever they want to start a thread about Beastly Kingdom or a new park. This thread presents itself every 3-5 weeks.
Beastly Kingdom, sounds really sweet. But, it's just not happening any time soon. When it does, and before it does, there will be a HUGE surge of activity in regards to permits, contractors, land clearing...this community is pretty well clued in to all of that. So when someone claims to have an uncle who has been contracted to install plumbing for the new land/park...don't pay it much mind. When you get 50 of those in the span of a week (check the Epcot 25 threads for an example of what happens when the board gets REALLY active), AND new permits (major ones), AND on the ground activity...you'll know it's on. Maybe. Just curious, does anyone know what time of year construction started on the other parks? I would guess sometime in the 4th-1st quarter(s) due to all of Florida's inclement weather. Then again, maybe not.

That patch of land at AK has been cleared for quite some time. The oldest satellite photo I could find of AK was from 2002 and that patch was cleared in that photo. It is my understanding that it has been cleared since the parks original construction back it 1998.

Construction in Florida is not as seasonal as it is in other parts of the country. You will pretty much have projects starting year round. About the closest thing I see some builders refer to an ideal building start season is around late November to December. The weather is starting to cool off and the rain is starting to get less land lees frequent but starting at that time is far from a necessity unlike up north where construction typically need to be at a certain phase before winter.

...you know what. SHUT UP.. let people post that they would like a new park, or 20K or monorail expansion..

such rudeness.
I imagine there's two reasons people quickly post responses to "is a new park coming" threads...
1. they're a little tired of hearing the exact same question posted over and over... All most people need to do is search the forums and find the answer they need.
2. they want to quickly settle crazy rumors, in order to prevent this forum from become a glut of silly rumors and half-truths, like some other forums are.
We actually maintain a very high level of accuracy here, thanks to certain members who appear to be in the know, and others who tirelessly monitor work permits coming out of Orlando...

Maybe it seems harsh at times to crush new posters hopes so quickly, but I think most people would like to know the truth instead of holding on to hopeless dream...

Right. Central Florida is much like Houston. The seasons we have are:
Dry Season (November-February), Spring (March 1-10), and Summer (March 11-November). Also, Rainy season overlaps Summer from June 1-October 15. June and July of this year we had something like 55 days of measurable rain fall. It would seem to stand to reason that you would start a large project in the dry season. But, as the parks seem to take about 3 years to come together, maybe it doesn't really matter.

what makes you so perfect to say that we shouldn't want another park at WDW? what is the "wrong" about it? I am amazed at the arrogance of some of the posters here, who, basically OWN THE PARKS AND THIS FORUM.

New Park? NO you are a fool for posting.. Monorail, whether the footers have been there for years and years, NOO.. You are a fool..

New ride? NOo... you are a fool..

you know what. SHUT UP.. let people post that they would like a new park, or 20K or monorail expansion..

So you don't want it, or you don't think it will happen.. NOTHING WILL HAPPEN IF YOU DON'T ASK FOR IT EITHER.. I would be that this forum has at least SOME AFFECT on the management.. Someone from there reads this thing..

when you down play a new park, ride, what ever, you also hurt the chances of it happening.. People here start screaming for any of the above, and maybe the bean counter years are going to end..

But if you pay for status quo, and support status quo, THAT'S ALL YOU ARE GOING TO GET IS STATUS QUO.

that's the truth.
Far be it from me, of all people, to plead for courtesy...but I think you were a little harsh there. Long as I am here, let me respond to you point by point:

1. We all want another park. It's not happening today or tomorrow or anytime in the near future. Idle speculation and rumors are just that.
2. Yeah, there are some folks here, as there are on any internet message board, that are like that.
3. Monorails, don't really concern myself much with those but there are many that immerse themselves in stuff like that. That's fine. The name calling is not necessary and will most likely get you reported by a senior member. Be nice.
4. "NOTHING WILL HAPPEN IF YOU DON'T ASK FOR IT EITHER"...I think you are thinking of Santa. You have to tell Santa what you want, Disney has their own plans. There have been isolated occasions where Disney has listened to public outcry, but not many. The thoughts and feeling posted here have very little, if any effect on future plans for the Mouse.

Just be careful with the name calling and discourteous behavior. Feel free to take them on ideologically if you like, this is a DISCUSSION board, after all. But be nice.

I am not an insider, but enough of them lurk through these forums, and enough speculations has been placed on the internet to give you an idea of what will likely happen before a 5th park. Before we see a 5th park, we will probably see Toy Story Mania, Star Tours 2.0, and 1 or 2 more attractions at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Before we see a 5th park, the Western Way expansion will probably be complete. Before we see a 5th park, the other 3 parks will all probably see at least one D or E ticket.

We will probably have to wait at least 5 years before any legitimate rumors about a 5th gate emerge, with a more likely timetable in the 10-15 year range. However, if attendance continues to rise, it may necessitate a 5th gate and/or rapid expansion of the existing parks prior to this timetable. This is just logic speaking, not substantiated fact. However, it seems that many of the insiders on these boards are echoing a similar sentiment.

Perhaps some of the rumors about a 5th park are indeed based upon some facts...

Does anyone truly believe that WDI or Corporate Disney aren't actively thinking about future expansion? - Of course they are and some of those thoughts and ideas inevitably leak out.

It will most likely be a long time before anything happens in terms of a 5th park - but nonetheless it is almost a certainty to happen at some point. However, until that time comes everyone can act like "insiders" and refute all of the 5th gate rumors as hogwash - until that time comes that is...

To be logical, the 5th park doesn't make sense. And as far as this board, I think Disney does look for reactions, but a fifth gate will not be put up because some people think it would be advisable. I would bet that if it was truly the way to go, it would already be in production.

To add my little bit of unsolicited and uninformed speculation: My guess is the next Disney park built in the USA will not be a 5th WDW park. It will be somewhere else, not in Orlando or in Anaheim.

Of course most of us love the ideas a new park will bring, but you have to ask yourself: Would you rather have 5 run down parks that are barely worth a full day of your time, or 4 amazing Disneyland quality parks that you can spend days in and are actually worth the $71 ticket?

Nice one...

From what I know about ABC/Disney, I'd be willing to bet either a hurricane or possibly a new DVC resort.

Disney can't even justify finishing the Pop Century resort with the volume of guests that they have now.

Until there are significantly more guests, there will not be a fifth gate. At the moment it's completely unnecessary. They need to focus on finishing Animal Kingdom and updating EPCOT Center. (WoL Pavilion, anyone?)

I agree that concentrating on the current parks, finishing Pop Century makes sense. It's a shame that they aren't doing either. However, the planning stages for what the 5th gate should be along with one or two new hotels should start now. By planning I mean discussions about what the 5th gate would be, where, early concept drawings, etc. Animal Kingdom opened in 1998, but it took a long time before the first shovel of dirt was moved.

I believe construction on the Animal Kingdom began around August 1995, and it didn't open until April 1998. This probably meant that it was probably several years before that the blue sky process began. We've heard rumors of a new park in California that seem to be more well founded than any 5th gates at Walt Disney World. However considering they will be reinvesting 1.2 billion into DCA over the next 5-6 years, I think Disney is likely to wait and see how this new investment in DCA benefits attendence. If DCA's improvements are successful, and the legal issues surrounding low income housing and land purchase go through, then we may actually see a new California park in 10 years. I doubt that a 5th gate in Disneyworld would come at the same time.

Actually - they started working on AK end of Summer 1994. I worked the College Program fall of 1994 - and during one of our "classes" we took a field trip to the area where they grow all the plants, trees, etc.. The 'teacher' told us to look at a certain spot..and low and behold - there was the Tree of Life - being put up (only the main structure of it was able to be seen from where we were). She told us it was going to be the next park due to open in about 3-4 years and it was going to be an animal preserve/zoo. That's all that was known about it then...of course we know what it came to be as of today!

Aren't the Google Earth areal shots a few years old. At least a year from what you can see on there. The wand is still on the SSE. The 429 freeway isnt even finished on there. And i think it looks like the yak and yeti area is just dirt a wall and a tractor or two. Any image of cleared land is at least a few years old. Just wondering if anyone else sees any construction that can put a time frame on the ariel shots. Oh, the Contep DVC hasnt been started on those shots either.

I was about to say the same thing. The shots are obviously dated between the opening of Everest (April 2006) and the start of the Contemporary demolition (January 2007). Seeing as there's a Christmas tree by the castle, I'll narrow it down to November or December 2006.
