I think we are going to try Kona for lunch around 2-3pm before going over to MNSSHP at 4pm on 11/1.

My concern is the mixed reviews I'm seeing. Can anybody weigh in??

Where are you seeing the reviews? I've seen several people ask about Kona over the last few months and can't think of one person, in a post, who didn't enjoy themselves. Admit I haven't checked the dining reviews tho. But every time we've gone in the last 10 years, we have never had a problem.

Thanks guys - I was checking menu prices over at our friends at AE and the reviews for September were lukewarm at best. I knew you'd have the skinny - wondered without the Tonga Toast if it was worth it or if it was a breakfast vs. dinner difference.

Appreciate the advice, hopefully ADRs will be available.

Heading for the great escape.
I had lunch there last Nov, no problems for me. The menu is a bit better at night, IMHO, but we all enjoyed lunch. Better than eating in the MK thats for sure.

I've only ever had dinner there, but I loved it each time! If you wanted to get Tonga Toast without eating at Kona, Captain Cooks serves it for breakfast too.

We went in for dinner last week and it was amazing. One of our favourite meals during our stay.

The pork chop was immense!

We've had breakfast, lunch, and dinner there. All multiple times. For lunch they have a really good burger and the club sandwich is delicious. And they bake their own chips, which I'm a sucker for!! I don't think you can go wrong with a Kona reservation. Have fun at MNSSHP!

Just got back from WDW. We were staying at the Poly, but didn't have ADRs one day for lunch. We had just gotten back from the park, and my husband suggested we try to get lunch at Kona Cafe. I didn't think it was possible, but he spoke with the greeter and we were seated within 5 minutes (around 2pm). We had the crispy pan fried chicken, sticky rice and macaroni salad. A very good lunch!

I highly recommend the restaurant. I was somewhat skeptical when I visited this past summer, but we were seated within 10 minutes, table service was terrific, and our food was delicious and very flavorful. It was also fun to watch the desserts [and they have some BEAUTIFUL desserts] being made.

Lunch is excellent. I can especially recommend the Big Kahuna Burger - one of the best burgers on property. And if you ask nicely, you may be able to get pretty much anything - I've had the pineapple-macadamia pancakes (far better than the overrated Tonga toast) for dinner before! :slurp:
