So, we've just extended our August trip and added 3 nights at the Poly, woohoo! I'm looking at adding some ADRs for these days. I'm thinking we'll do the SOA for the first time while we're staying there. We've also never tried Kona, we ALWAYS go to Ohana. So, should I do a breakfast or a dinner there? I've read great things about both. This is our first time staying at the Polynesian and I'm going to really take advantage of being there.

Yes, you should do both breakfast and dinner.:D

Both are really good. I would check out the menus and see which one appeals to you the most. If I had to choose I would probably go with dinner as there are several choices that are somewhat unique to Kona while breakfast has only two choices that fit that description.

I have never been for dinner, but breakfast is awesome!!! Tonga Toast, Pineapple Macademia Pancakes, cheesy scrambled egs, Lilikoi juice....:slurp::slurp::slurp:

I have eaten both breakfast and dinner there. For this trip, I couldn't decide because both meals are great there. I am eating both breakfast and dinner there in September. :)

I suggest going for dinner...I think the menu is a bit more unique and enjoyable. While you will hear people rave about the Tonga Toast and pancakes, I think the overall better meal is to be had at night.

I vote for dinner. Breakfast while has some cool options like tonga toast and the macadamia nut pancakes, the rest is pretty standard. But dinner really WOWed me on our last trip. We absolutely love it. Boyfriend says it's the best steak he's ever had there (teriyaki strip) and their bread/butter is absolutely the best I've ever had, anywhere!

Haha....the more I think about this decision the more I'm hoping this is the outcome.
Thank you everyone!! It looks like overall, so far, the vote goes to dinner. I'm actually thinking I may try to figure both into the stay and can probably pull this off. If not I'm leaning towards to dinner, thanks to this thread. I just feel so left out for not having tried this Tonga Toast!! And those pancakes sound pretty fabulous too!

Okay, I've got another question. Just trying to figure out the placement of these reservations over the 3 nights we're there. Would it be weird to do Kona for breakfast and dinner on the same day? My other question is, is the Spirit of Aloha worth it? Or should I dump that one and do my Kona dinner on a separate day?
Thanks guys, I take my itinerary very seriously and I want this to work smoothly and make sense.

I say do both! We are eating breakfast twice(Tonga Toast and the juice!) and dinner once on our trip to the Poly in May! Can't help with the Luau, never been.

IMHO yes do Kona for breakfast and dinner, and yes you can eat there twice in one day, our family has done that sort of thing at Kona cafe and at Whispering canyon. Have a big breakfast come back to the reosrt in the afternoon and then have dinner there as well before heading out for the evening.

As for Spirit of Aloha it's your call if you've never seen it try it.We saw it once and that was enough.

Thank you so much for the feedback, I appreciate it. You hit every one of my questions so thank you. I feel like I mostly hear the same thing abut Spirit of Aloha and then every once in awhile someone raves about it that it's a must do. Including Shandy, the fabulous CM I spoke with when booking our Poly stay. I think I'll probably do it this trip just because of the Polynesian thing, it will be super convenient staying there and then heading straight back to our room after. Man oh man am I pumped up for this trip!!:D

Tonga Toast always seems to get top billing for breakfast. Its a novelty, extremely sweet and frankly, after two bites, I have had enough. My favorite breakfast at the Kona Cafe is the Samoan. This is two poached eggs, topped with Hollendaise sauce (sp) perfectly cooked over a pulled pork hash. The hash has a moderate amount of onion, a modest amount of potato and lots of pulled pork. The smokey flavor is just right. It truly tastes home made. My only complaint with the Kona Cafe this year was the slow service. It wasn't crowded so there was no reason to have to wait a half hour for breakfast. DH had a cheese omelet but omelets are every where, the Samoan is a treat.

Kona Cafe is the best breakfast secret (shhh!) in WDW. We eat here every single trip, sometimes twice. I used to have the Tonga Toast every time - it is truly legendary. You can't get this anywhere else. Since being diagnosed with Celiac and no longer able to eat gluten, I opt for my second favorite at Kona - the pineapple macadamia nut pancakes which the chef prepares gluten free for me. It is heaven on a plate.

Try both! Have fun at the Poly, it is one of our top two favorites!
