Knockout Game: Why Do Teens Do It?

I think this has to be an extremely small minority of kids who would even consider to do this. The problem is now it's extremely easy for the dumb and violent to spread the words of their actions. Every generation has a population of stupid that do awful things. The problem is now they can so much more easily find each other through the Internet and make their actions seem much louder to the public.

Wow. I'm a teenager and would never do such a thing, it's really sad and messed up that some people would do such a thing. I guess social media plays into this, where it can spread faster. I'll never understand why people would do this
I think kids in our generation do a lot of dumb stuff that neither of us would ever consider doing, nor would the majority of teens consider doing. Plus, it's about the crowd, and I don't think you hang out with the wrong crowd, nor did I in high school.

I feel the need to point out that some of this is not new. In my high school, we had kids who would punch each other for no reason whatsoever. I remember I was at the nurse one time and as I was sitting there a kid walked in with the school cop and a bloody nose. The story was that another kid, who he didn't even know, came and randomly punched him. Witnesses confirmed this, according to the cop. Following this, the paper had to report several more instances of this. Something that started in school has just become more widespread.

I think this is much different than these teens who are trying to make sure they hit you hard enough to knock you out and the fact they aren't hitting other teens, they are hitting old women and defenseless people. They are such cowards, they don't dare go after anyone who might hit them back. There has always been an element like this, but it was somewhat rare to involve the kind of people they are targeting. With social media, this will spread. It will give other creeps the incentive to do the same. It will also give the ones who push others into doing bad things, something else to push them into doing.

True, but this is most likely where it had its roots. You are right about stupidity spreading via social media

At least some of the victims are starting to fight back against these thugs. In the past week, 3 of the little hood rats have been shot by their victims, 2 of them fatally by a 60 year old woman who had just celebrated her birthday and who is a concealed weapon permit holder. After they knocked her to the ground, they stood over her and she got up and delivered justice to them.

Its a guy thing.

If you watch any street fight its usually only people swinging to the face hoping for a quick knockout, with the attacks on random strangers, knocking someone out and putting it on Youtube would be considered impressive and build street cred.

OMG. I don't think the death sentence was appropriate for the behavior unless the lady thought they were going to kill her. She may not have known their intent was a knockout, not death. Or, they may very well have intended to kill her because she could identify them since she wasn't knocked out.

It would be my guess that she was in fear of great bodily harm. Why else would these 2 thugs have punched her in the face and then just stood over her, like she was their trophy? They got what was coming to them. Notice above that I said "great bodily harm". This is the only justification that she needed, to defend her own life.

In at least one case the attack was fatal, so yes, I think I'd consider these attacks to be life threatening.

The death sentence is handed out after someone has received a trial and been found guilty by a jury. Self defense, in this instance, is being handed out by someone who is getting the crap beat out of them. It's unfortunate that there is one or two less scum bags on the street who paid the ultimate price for their crime.

Intentionally trying to knock out a 70 year old woman could kill her - they didn't care enough to consider that possibility. They knew 100% that they were going to hurt her. They also didn't consider the fact that they might be killed. Which always should be considered when physically attacking another - even someone you think is weak and helpless - which is why these thugs chose to attack her.

Perhaps a few more people fighting back will make other thugs think twice before playing this game.
