Just Stayed at Port Orleans Riverside!

We just got back (jan 8-15) from our honeymoon at the Port Orleans Riverside resort. We stayed in a Kind bed room in aligator bayou #28. The room was very clean, smelled good and looked newly decorated (but it probably wasn't).

The walk to the restaurant/lobby was about 3-5 minutes. The restaurant had good food selections for all meals and reasonably priced. We were on the disney dining plan and would not take another trip without it. The resort allowed us to get chocolate milk or any beverage for our snacks (no alcohol). The restaurants were great (Nine Dragons, Cinderellas royal table, Sci-fi diner, Tony's restaurant, Liberty tree tavern, Hollywood & vine and the mexican restaurant with the river and volcano) with plenty of food and choices.

Mousekeeping did a great job keeping us in clean towels and linens. We didn't get animals or such made out of our towels but they gave us lots of soaps and shampoo to take home.

The bus services were great, we always got picked up before french quarter and there were frequent buses to each theme park if you missed one. We waited at the most 5 to 10 minutes and always got a seat. We only had to stand twice, both times coming from the magic kindom at closing.

We used magical express and had no problems with our bags getting to our room two hours after we arrived. One problem we had, which was not DME related, was that we were not allowed to check-in to our flight home from the resort. We traveled under different last names as we booked the vacatioon 9 months before we were married and American airlines made us check in at the terminal in orlando. I was mad, but when we got to orlando airport there was no line to check in so it only took us a few minutes. The problem with not being able to check-in at the resort is that you must keep your bags with you or store them until your DME departure time from the resort.

On another note related to the resort, we sent all our purchases from downtown disney and the theme parks back to our resort instead of dragging them around with us. It was convenient and easy to pick them up at the general store the next night after we had been to a park.

Once again the theming, cleanliness and comfort of the resort will keep me coming back and i would quickly recommend to others that they too should stay at the Port Orleans Riverside.

Sounds like you guys had an awesome time! We stayed at POR in September and fell in love with that resort. So much so, that we are going to stay there again in August!!

Congratulations on getting married!

I think we stayed in the same area when we went in October! We were in a King Bed room in Alligator Bayou #28!! I don't remember the room#, but I know we also liked the room and the resort. We are in the process of planning our trip in October and if we don't go with Wilderness Lodge, we will be staying at POR. October was our first trip anywhere EVER without the kids, so we already know we liked the resort for us as a couple, we know that the kids will like it too. We stayed at POFQ twice in the past, so it was nice to know that POR was also an option for us. And we LOVE the boat to Downtown - it always makes us feel like Downtown is just an extension of our resort, and the kids like it when the "Captain" of the boat points out different birds or other scenic things along the way.

Glad you enjoyed yourself!!

Congratulations you two...

What about the piano dude...did you stop in the lobby to watch the piano dude?

Did you walk to the food court at night after returning from the parks or get a pizza at midnight?

Use the refillable cups?

I’m so happy to hear all of the great things about POR-Riverside. I’ve always wanted to stay there since it was built, but I never have. We have always stayed at deluxe resorts, but this year we decided to try to save a bit of money (and stay at a different resort) so I booked us at POR in February..

I tell ya, it may not have all the amneties (or however you spell it) of Deluxe resort, but it has a certain quality and feel that ranks it right up there.

i just LOVE that resort!

you'll love it...

it's not like staying at a Hotel...the rooms are off from the lobby and food court. I prefer this because it allows you to take a walk and enjoy the scenery...

I can't imagine staying anywhere else...

Glad to hear you liked it so much! We are going Feb 10-19 but staying at the French Quarter; however my sister waited too long to book her reservation that she is over at the POR. I told her it was within walking distance and that the arcade is huge! If anyone knows of any room blocks at the French Quarter that need help filling up I know someone who can help!!! We'd like to get my sis to the French Quarter because the whole family is coming down for our wedding and we're all the French Quarter. Thanks!

Actually, I disagree - for adults, French Quarter is better than Riverside...just as a heads up - it looks like Port Orleans French Quarter is pretty well booked up from mid-February through the end of spring break time (mid April) while Riverside still seems to have rooms throughout that period.

POR Riverside just keeps bringing magical honeymoons.

That's where the wife and I stayed but it was called Dixie Landings back then.

We have stayed at both French Quarters and Riverside. At the time, I said I would never stay at French Quarters, 10 years later that changed. I wouldn't stay and Riverside again, but maybe it's my age :lookaroun I need to save my walking for the parks now a days

Thank you to everyone that responded. My wife and I appreciate you thoughts.

To answer a few questions:

No, we didn't get a chance to listen to the piano guy, but as we walked through the lobby everynight to pick up packages and a snack we did hear him a few times. He looks like he walked right out of a vaudville act. Sounded very entertaining.

Yes, we went to the restaurant/grab and go at night if we were still hungry to grab a hamburger or snack (we were on the disney dining plan so we ate pretty well at nice places) if we were still hungry after the parks closed. The dining area closed at 11.

Yes and No as to the resort mugs. We bought them first thing and we used them a couple of times to get hot chocolate and coffee. For the most part we probably got our money's worth, but didn't use them enough because our room was a little away from the restaurant. We did refill them though probably only 4 times each. It was much easier to use our snack from DD and get a bottled beverage to take back to the room and put in the mini fridge for later.

Finally, I have stayed at many fine hotels around the country and I would have to say that PO riverside stacks up very well with the finest of them. I was hesitant at first to get a moderate accomodation with the outside doors, but we never had traffic in front of our room and it was always quiet.

We had so much fun at POR that last year when we asked the kids where they wanted to stay, our daughter asked for POR. (Our son wanted the Contemporary for it's close proximity to the Magic Kingdom.) We compromised and booked two nights at each resort. As nice as the Contemporary is, the POR feels more like home to me. We've stayed in both Alligator Bayou and Magnolia Bend. The kids enjoyed the trundle beds that tucked under. Last year, we ended up renting motorboats at the riverfront and on the previous trip, we rented the surrey bikes. Both times we ended up spending most of the afternoon hanging out by the pool and waterslide. Lots of fun, interesting things to do there. The restaurant and eatery were big hits as well. The whole feel of the place is relaxed and it's very quiet. Plus, it's just a short ferry ride to Downtown Disney.
