Just scrap the Yeti?

It seems obvious the Yeti will never return to his former glory so why not just scrap the expensive version, sell him for parts and start fresh?

Without making expensive changes to the ride couldn't they add "versions" of the Yeti in to certain scenes?

An arm reaching from the darkness here and there, maybe a quick glance at a head/bust around a corner or two, a hand holding on to the track maybe, etc...

They could be totally static displays at this point and still offer more than a single broken Yeti.

So basically...turn it into the Matterhorn pt. 2?

Maybe.

Is it better to have four static 1/4 Yeti displays or one complete static Yeti display?

They could pull the animatronic out completely at this point and just put in a figerglass and yak hair Yeti mannequin, not much difference.

ETA: In fact it would be an improvement, with no weight or structural integrity concerns they could move it closer to the trains.

It's not the worst option I've ever of. It's become obvious TDO has no intention of doing what they have to do to restore the Yeti, so it might be time to cut their losses and at least make the Yeti a presence in the attraction.

I don't think there's any chance of it happening though; the black tarps have been in Big Thunder Mountain for how long now? Frankly, they don't care how bad a "show" they are providing as long as people keep paying.

Here is the reality. Only die hard disney fans (like us) care about the Yeti being there or not. For the other percentage, they care more about the ride and the assumption that the Yeti is there.

Imagine if the Yeti were removed, and a giant backlit video screen put in its place... For a CGI yeti to be shown running towards, swatting at, and narrowly missing each train...

Just wouldn't be the same... and yet, I bet it's an idea that's been seriously studied...

lol isnt the whole point of the ride the yeti?
why dont they get some live actors? i know a few people who could play a good yeti :ROFLOL:

The last time I was there was in May and then in August. I've never seen it in disco version. The lights fully showing him were on and honestly, it didn't seem so bad. My family never knew the difference from when we saw him in full A mode to now. Even though his arm doesn't move, I think it better to have that than nothing at all.

Too Bad...

My family never knew the difference from when we saw him in full A mode to now.

Somewhere, there's a knucklehead (or a whole boardroom full of knuckleheads) counting on this sort of reaction--so much the better if it comes from a person who visits Walt Disney World twice in one year. Apparently, TDO is convinced that the once-in-a-lifetime guest will never notice that the signature animatronic in the headliner attraction of one of their theme parks has been decommissioned and neglected for years.

For my part, a fully functioning yeti adds to Expedition Everest immeasurably and the attraction's appeal is crippled without it. But to each his own, I guess.

I agree with you. It's almost as if it's uneventful, and just another roller coaster. No one take that as literally as I said it, but it does lack.

From my point of view it seems like if the attractions isn't loosing attendance they don't care for the extra special features. Its a roller coaster, it is fun to ride Yeti or no Yeti. What we want doesn't matter as long as the money is coming in. I myself miss the Yeti and will never forget the first and last time I ever saw it. Disney is a busyness, all they care about if the amount of bums sitting in the carts on their rides. They can care less about the guests opinions as they walk out unless they start loosing attendance or money.

The fully operational Yeti will likely never return, so my suggestion was to remove it entirely and replace it with several smaller less complicated pieces that actually work.

On Forbidden Journey for example they didn't need to build a complete dragon, just the head and neck...and it actually works.

So I would rather have a yeti arm reaching for you here and there, glowing eyes in this corner or that, maybe a static complete figure or two and then a large head/torso coming at you from the darkness at the final drop.

Four working partial yetis beat one busted complete yeti in my book.

Good idea! Maybe they could hand out 3D glasses as you board the train to enhance the effect. :p

The lower tech the better.

Cast member in a gorilla costume might be the best idea.

Put 'em in a harness, swing 'em around a little.

So right, Sometimes to much technology is bad news. They start off a ride so advanced, then they scale it down because its to much to handle or things keep on breaking. I wish they would start off small.

With this, I agree completely...

...but I prefer to dream that The Walt Disney Company will hold true to its principles and to the ideals of its founder, instead of taking the cheap or easy way out, restoring the yeti to its original glory. Short of that, however, your plan far exceeds the garbage job being currently being done to convince unwitting vacationers that there is, in fact, actually a yeti on the attraction.

The Yeti is the most TECHNOLOGICALLY ADVANCED audio animatronics figure ever made! Be impressed.
