I think it's a great idea almost every time we go to Disney there is one or two items we want and either can't find or can't find the right size. It would be great to have someone track down hard to find things

This is what I was thinking as well. I wonder if they can also get things that were only found in the parks? For example, last trip after we had been to AK, my DD had a stuffed yeti she decided she really wanted but WoD didn't have it. It would save us time if they sought out all that stuff for us and also pins that we have seen throughout the trip.

Many of the stores around here offer personal shoppers.

It's not as if you tell them "I want a Mickey coffee mug" and they go get it.

They (are supposed to) have a very detailed knowledge of the mechendise that is available and are supposed to be able to suggest items.

Lets say you are looking for a gift. They may ask you about the person you are looking for a gift for. Maybe you tell them that that person just got their first apartment. They would know that they have that cool Disney silverware in stock and may suggest that. They may also suggest maybe dishes, or perhaps a throw, or lamp. If they are good they would dig deeper asking if there were any particular characters your friend likes, or favorite colors. etc.

And I do like the 2 sets of silverware I bought - on my own, no personal shopper needed :)

A short story should put this in perspective for everyone:

I recently visited the World of Disney shop in DLR. I had only one thing on my mind, buy a plush Remmy. If his fat bro was available I'd probably get him too. When I entered, a greeter welcomed me. I explained:

"Hello, I need a bit of help finding some items."

Response:

"Oh, hold on, I'll get someone, because I'm supposed to stay here."

(waits while a person is found)

"Hi, did you need help?"

"Yep, I can't see the items in the store, so I need some help shopping."

At this point, we went off looking for the plush Remmy. The cast member was a lead, and she really was cheerful despite the crowded state of the store. She assisted me in finding remmy, but then I also remembered that I wanted a few park audio CDs. We found the rack, but I wasn't sure about each CD, specifically the track lineup. She patiently read the backs of the CDs, and I bought three of them.

She turned a $30 sale into a $100 sale, and I walked out super happy. That is why they need a formal personal shopping program. I can imagine it now, you mention you like Nemo, and your personal shopper helps you find all of the unique items. A few probing questions would make sure you avoid things like mugs, and you maybe end up by plushes or kitchenware.

Now, if only they would use a hand held checkout device and carry a few bags on hand, and the receipt to the email? Sound futuristic? Nah, your local electronics shop is already doing this.

Boy do I wish every store had the checkout process that Apple Stores do. Instant credit card checkout anywhere in the store... no lines, no paper.

With Jobs sitting on Disney's board, I do hope that it's somewhere in the pipeline. He obviously gets it. The question is, can he convince everyone else at Disney to get it as well?

The T.G.I. Fridays outside of DTD alo uses these hand-held check out devices. The waitress swiped the card and did the whole transaction right at the table!

Ok, just my opinion...BUT:
As an ex-World Of Disney employee, I loved my job. I made a point of walking the store and checking on new product, and after I became a part of the visual merchandising team, had a great familiarity with the products we had, and helped many, many people find those items that other CM's didnt. It seems as tho Disney dosent care about the quality of the CM's they hire...My story is personal. I think, bottom line, that EVERY guest should get the personalized treatment, no matter what. Helping someone find that special item, or size, should be part of the job, no matter how much calling you have to do to how many stores. And getting that help should not be something "personal". Wake Up Disney. CM's should be helping every person that walks through that daoor. They should all feel special. The CM's in the Japan Pavillion seem to know that!

Not old, just vintage.
This is not the best time to do this, Disney...

I am just curious, but why do you feel that way?

I think this is a good move on their part. It might not help the bank accounts of any guests anytime soon, but the company will surely see some benefit from this. It is easy for them to take a $25 sale and turn it into a $100+ sale. They will now have someone helping you find stuff, suggesting items for you, and giving you a gentle "nudge" towards that $60 Daisy Duck figurine you love but don't really *need.* :lookaroun

Yep...actually, I think I went to that one when they were training their wait staff on them. It's a really neat device. It worked really really well though.

Totally off topic though...:lookaroun
