Just curious- who plans to ride Frozen when it opens?

Of course I'll ride. If Disney has it up and running I'll ride, then decide if it's worth riding again or if it goes on my "This !@#$%" list and I'll pass it by forevermore... like Captain EO. :in pain: Maelstrom will enter into my " Once upon a time I rode that but now its gone forever" list.

I have to say the thing that I have found truly puzzling about the Maelstrom/frozen ride debate and have been reluctant to say for fear of abuse, is the whole "culture" argument. Yes I get that the placement of the ride is not the best and it may have been better in MK or DHS but if people are that distressed by cultural misrepresentation why visit somewhere like EPCOT? there are inaccuracies in all of the countries, take the UK for example only tiny, affluent areas our country still look like that but I would never boycott that area or lambast Disney for designing it that way. I just think that if people are that concerned about having an authentic experience they may be happier visiting the actual countries! Rant over:D. Suffice to say I will be giving the frozen ride a chance.

Yes, well Main Street USA isn't an accurate representation of the average American town, either.
However, it does represent the stylized, sanitized American culture that we get nostalgic about. Likewise with England.

I mean hell, if you went completely, 100% culture, you'd have to have a "Tokyo Subway Ride" at the Japan pavilion, complete with folks pushing you into the ride vehicles like sardines and subway station vending machines selling everything from underwear to French Fries.

That being said...at least the sanitized, stylized culture of each country is something tangible and real in that it promotes actual hopes and dreams of the culture it's represnting. The same cannot be said for Elsa the Snow Queen (who is really Danish in origin).

I'll ride it at least once no matter what, but given how often I get to Disney (once every year or 2) I'll probably watch someone's video on youtube first :)

I get what your saying and kind of agree to an extent, but I stand by that at the end of the day it's a section of a theme park and things may be incorrect, or appropriated from the wrong country/culture to fit with what they want to promote (in this case it happens to be frozen) plus that region has massive amounts of shared history and folklore, maybe it would have been better to re-theme the whole pavilion to a Nordic theme, so then frozen rides/theming would have been a better fit? Maybe then they could have kept maelstrom too and everyone would be happy... who knows?

First, I'll give the new ride The Evil Eye. Then I'll throw theoretical rotten eggs at it. Then I'll wish for a massive thaw that reduces Arendelle to a giant puddle, with a pitiful carrot nose floating on top of it.

Then I'll ride the thing, nod politely if it doesn't suck, and then forget it even exists.

Or just scrapped the whole "Arandelle" nonsense entirely and had a tour of Scandinavia hosted by Olaf the Snowman, akin to how the Three Caballeros now tour Mexico.

It kind of makes me wonder though....if Universal hadn't an ironclad contract with Marvel, would Disney have closed Maelstrom long before Frozen was ever a thing to create a Thor ride, complete with Animatronic Hemsworths and Hiddlestons?

That could have been interesting I think folks would have been happier with the Olaf idea, it's more of a compromise. It could have been informative but still have a bit of whimsy and light-heartedness too.

It really wouldn't shock me if they had, although I think animatronic Tom Hiddlestons/loki would creep me out his Hannibal lecture style stare is unnerving at the best of times!
Seriously though it would be cool if they could get out of that contract and create a marvel land at DHS. I know I have more chance of seeing a pig fly, but a girl can dream

Like everyone else, I will ride it, maybe more than once since I have paid so much money to go I want the best value out of my park tickets as possible.

However, I can honestly say I'm not really sure what to expect when it does open.

We always go for a few weeks, so we will definitely try it. My favorite Epcot show is right next store - Mariachi Cobre. I always enjoyed Maelstrom, including walking into HH, and checking out the pastries. It's fun seeing all the kids enjoying Disney, so hopefully the Frozen ride will be a thrill for them.

I'll ride it. Maybe every time I'm there.

I'll ride it the way I ride Mission space, and Test Track. With part of me trying to make do with what is there, and part of me crying silent tears for what once was.

Edit: Maybe I'll pretend I'm in Fantasyland, boarding a fun new darkride. I do that a lot in EPCOT, make pretend. We all need a fantasy world to escape the harsh reality that is Disney World.
Agreed. I'm really not out to make any kind of principled stand on vacation (not for thematic integrity of a theme park, anyway). I'll ride it whenever I can without a crazy wait, and enjoy it for what it is. Does the mishmash affect me? Sure. I'll probably enjoy the park 1.3% less because it makes less sense as a whole, but I don't really gain anything by boycotting any specific ride.

hmmm...Universal aside...if they wanted to butcher Maelstrom and make it a Frozen ride....but turn the new meet n greet building to a Loki meet n greet...it MIGHT make the sting of losing the ride a little less painful.....just sayin....:inlove:

Loved Maelstrom but of course I'm going to ride Frozen, and more than once.

Heck, I gave SGE a second chance before deciding not to waste my time with that anymore. And it won't be worse than that monstrosity.

My dad was the same way with 10k leagues as people said about maelstrom.
Things come and go. Its not set in stone that Epcot can't have a fictional land based off a movie, as much as it might seem out of place, its not a written rule.
I'll ride it, and I will ride it after the first time, beccause I go to Disney to ride it all, good bad and out of place.
I enjoyed maelstrom, it's gone, and that sucks. but its happened before, it will again, just enjoy the ride.
