My mom is having the time of her life. This has always been her absolute most favorite time to come, and since I started working in retail 18 years we had to stop coming during this time of year. My mom did something today that amazed me and several cast members at Kona Cafe.
I have to get a little sappy and tell a quick story as to why she did what she did. My grandma started coming on all our vacations to WDW back when I was in the sixth grade. I'm 36 now, so you please do the math its too depressing for me and we came 3-4 times a year. Sadly, 5 years ago on Thanksgiving morning my grandma died. My grandma was so special to mom and I that we still talk about her everytime we come.
So fast forward to today. We ate breakfast at Kona Cafe and it was awesome as usual. The hostess seated a couple next to us and mom tapped her on the shoulder and said, "You remind me so much of my mother that I wanted to give you this." The hostess graciously declined mom's offer. I told mom that in order for her to take it, she had to decline the offer three times per Disney policy. Mom asker her if I was right and the lady seemed embarrassed to say yes. So mom takes her hand and kinda wipes the lady's hand and says, "ok once, twice, three times. Here I wanted you to have this because you remind me of my mother."
We get back to OKW and I asked mom what she gave her and she told me $50 because it's what Mema (my grandma) told her to do. I looked at moms lanyard and tell her that she still has her $50 bill and mom realized she only gave her $5, so we go back to Kona where we found her, her name is Ruth, and told her we gave her the wrong one. Mom took it folded up and laid it in Ruth's hand then closed her hand. When she opened the tears started coming all three of our faces. She had already told her manager what we did prior, we didn't want her to get in any trouble. She told us her birthday is December 31 and this will be her birthday dinner money. And why? Because she reminded my mom of her mom.
Sorry the story was so long. I just had to share.
